Why Do People Watch Anime?

...an inspiration to some. During World War II, cartoonists were forced by the government to draw propaganda mangas. Those who were not forced to draw propaganda manga were getting into trouble with the government. These cartoonists formed organizations to come together. After World War II, a young inspired artist by the name of Osamu Tezuka became a cartoonist. Throughout his career of success, Osamu Tezuka was named Father of Anime and manga, and was an inspiration to other cartoonists. Such as the young struggling cartoonist Walt Disney (The History of Anime and Manga, April 2012). Unlike the cartoons seen in the United States, which are mostly directed toward kids and young adults, anime has a spectrum of shows for people of any age (Shae Hazelton, April 2012). Many animes have interesting plot lines that cross cultural differences. The animes tend to have teenage characters who have uncommon situations that would not happen in reality, or have amazing powers. For example, in the anime titled "Soul Eater" the characters go to an academy called the Death Weapon Mister Academy. The students have partners that live and work with each other. One of the partners has the ability to transform into a weapon and the other partner wields the weapon. They fight witches and...

Protected Industrial Action

...The Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) establishes a system of protected industrial action. Detail the procedures and discuss what they mean for employees and employers in relation to collective bargaining. Introduction On 1 July 2009, Australia’s workplace relations system changed. The Fair Work Act 2009 created a new legislative framework for workplace relations laws, to balance the needs of employees, the employers and the unions. A key objective of the Fair Work Act 2009 is achieving productivity and fairness in the workplace through the implementation of collective bargaining underpinned by simple good faith bargaining obligations and clear rules governing industrial action. This paper will detail the process and details of protected industrial action and what they mean for the employers and employees. Industrial Action Industrial action exerts pressure on the other party to the employment relationship with a view to gain a particular response from them. It can take a number of forms and reduces productivity at the workplace. Industrial action can take one or more of the following: go-slows, work-to-rule, boycotts, strikes, overtime bans, lock-outs and the performance of work by an employee in a manner different from that in which it is customarily performed. Industrial action is generally unlawful and prohibited unless it is protected industrial action. Employees who engage in industrial action which is not protected under the Fair Work Act can be exposed to penalties...

Finance of Schoget

...Segmentation Markets are heterogeneous. Customers differ in their values needs, wants, constraints, beliefs and incentives to act. Products compete to satisfy the needs and wants of customers. By segmenting their markets, firms can better understand their customers and target their marketing efforts efficiently and effectively (Lilien, 2007). As Lilien suggests the raw data has been segmented below. Size / Cluster | Overall | Cluster 1 | Cluster 2 | Cluster 3 | Number of observations | 317 | 182 | 70 | 65 | Proportion | 1 | 0.574 | 0.221 | 0.205 | Fig. 1 After exploring with different amount of clusters, it was clear that there are 3 well defined clusters. As Lilien (2007) approves for a segmentation study to be useful, it should result in a manageable number of target segments (often between three and eight), each of a substantial size. Therefore this representation of the market is appropriate and the analysis can continue to describe each segment. Below are the results from the data collected. Segmentation variable / Cluster | Overall | Cluster 1 | Cluster 2 | Cluster 3 | Rich full-bodied | 4.77 | 4.91 | 2.3 | 7.03 | Light beer | 3.72 | 3.35 | 3.67 | 4.82 | No aftertaste | 4.56 | 4.37 | 3.46 | 6.29 | Refreshing | 5.02 | 5.42 | 2 | 7.17 | Goes down easily | 5.17 | 5.35 | 2.91 | 7.09 | Gives a "buzz" | 3.39 | 3.16 | 2.63 | 4.88 | Good taste | 3 | 2.37 | 0.443 | 7.51 | Low price | 3.91 | 3.8 | 3.13 | 5.06 | Good value | 4.65 | 4.43 | 3.26 | 6.77...

Criminal Justice System

...Criminal Justice System Jean H. Blanc CRJ 100 04/30/2013 Prof. McCarty Abstract According to Shae Irving, the word “criminal” is describe as “the society’s belief that certain act are unacceptable and that any perpetrator should be punish” [ (Irving, 2008) ]. Enter the American Criminal Justice System. This paper will give a brief description of the Criminal Justice System and its purpose, and describe the key component of this system. It will also discuss the purpose and function of each component and their main responsibilities. Criminal Justice System Definition and goal. As described by author Frank Schmalleger, the criminal justice system is “the aggregate of all operating and administrative or technical support agencies that perform criminal justice function” [ (Schmalleger, 2011) ]. For lack of a better term, it is the collective institutions through which an accused offender passes until the accusation have been lifted or the assessed punishment concluded. The criminal Justice system serves two purposes. According to Professor Kathleen Daly of Griffith University, the state is responsible to respond to crimes to secure benefits to the wider society, such as crime prevention and reduction. Professor Daly continued on to point out, that the state also has the responsibility to redress imbalances caused by those people who take illegal advantage of another or diminish their human dignity [ (Daly, 2012) ]. To sum it up, the criminal justice system’s purpose...

Have You Ever Listened To Rain Returning On The Ground Poem

...The imagery in the poem helps build and develop the idea of cherishing life. It says in lines 1 and 2, “Have you ever… listened to rain slapping on the ground?” (Slow Dance- An Inspiring Poem. 1-2) to enhance the theme of living before everything comes to an end. He also says in lines 9 and 10, “When the day is done, do you lie in your bed, with the next hundred chores running through your head?” (Slow Dance- An Inspiring Poem. 9-10), helping the reader visualize laying in bed, thinking of all the things they have to do in the future, instead of resting. One of the most important examples of imagery in this poem is when he used the simile, “When you worry… through your day, it’s like an unopened gift thrown away.” (Carson, Shae. “Slow Dance”), to say that when you worry throughout your day, you waste your day because you are too busy thinking instead of living. The purpose of the imagery in this poem is to help the reader visualize what he says and help put the imagery into their own...

Geto B0Ys: Six Feet Deep

...Six Feet Deep by Geto Boys On March 19, 1993, a rap trio called the Geto Boys released an album called “Til Death Do Us Part.” On this album, Brad Jordan (Scarface), Richard Shaw (Bushwick Bill), and Michael Burnett (Big Mike), recorded a song called “Six Feet Deep.” This song was an instant hit, because so many people in the inner city could relate to the death that was depicted in the song. Although this song was released more than twenty years ago, it still has relevance today. The things that went on then are still going on in black communities today. Each verse described each person’s view on how death has come into their lives. In the first verse, performed by Scarface, he talks about losing a close friend to a gun shout wound to the chest. He described the scene at the wake when he said, “And everybody dressed up in black suits.” The black suits is a part of a tradition practiced in many parts of the world. People are to wear something black to the wake or funeral of the deceased. He also described the sad expression on the faces of others around the death of his friend. Scarface recalled some things about their past, letting the listener know that he would never forget his friend and that his memory will live on forever. This verse was his way of saying good bye to his friend. He also explained how he felt about the situation saying that “it hurts to see the boy you broke bread with six feet in the dirt”. The second verse was performed by Bushwick Bill...

Dependence on Technology

...Meghan Humphrey Professor Shae Anderson Advanced Composition 12 October 2013 Has Technology made us lazy? According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, technology means the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., to invent useful things or solve problems. Technology has advanced so much in today’s society. Cell phones once weighed 2.5 pounds whereas now they weigh less than a pound. Technology has made living life easier by creating cars that are able to parallel park themselves, cellphones that will finish our words and sentences. Noticing all these advancements in technology, it makes me ask myself, has technology made us lazy? Technology is an important factor in today’s world. Technology has improved many aspects of people’s lives. It has improved communication, television, travel, and the World Wide Web. Before the advancement of the telephone, news had to travel by means of stage coach, rail road and postal service. “Whether the communication was an update from one family member to another or an emergency message the outcome was that it was received equally slow” (Cooper). Televisions advancement added a “visual medium to the communication method better than radio” (Cooper). The improvement with news helped individuals follow items such as “weather disasters, presidential elections, and other country news soon after it happened and more recently in real time. This visual exposure has caused individuals to be held more accountable and has kept the public more informed”...

Intersectionality Analysis Paper

...Intersectionality and Stereotypes Social Work 305 The University Dr. Sharon White said, “Intersectionality encompasses how one’s complex mix of identities influence the way an individual participates in, and is affected by society”. After watching the movie, Crash, I found it fairly difficult to analyze just one of the topics discussed in class. In many instances, race, class, gender and sexuality seem to intersect in our daily lives more often than we (as in one individual) may realize. It is important that we pay attention to this as we begin to form our opinions of people and situations. I have found that stereotypes are often the foundation for our beliefs and fears; however, there are always unknown factors that contribute to the formation of these stereotypes. As Crash opens, a black man, Detective Graham Waters, speaks about the nature of Los Angeles and the need for people to crash into each other. “It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something” (Crash). This was a great quote for me as I took the word crash as a metaphor for intersectionality. The metal and glass symbolize a shield or façade an individual has up. This shield provides protection and safety but it also prevents the outside from seeing what’s...
