Shakers Answer Choice

Submitted By
Words 365

Answer choice A is incorrect. According to the "Shakers: Part 1" video, the Shaker community did not practice marriage. Traditionally, all Shakers practiced celibacy- abstaining from marriage and sexual relations. The speaker in the "Shakers: Part 1" mentioned, "...although their religious views and, especially, the prohibition of marriage frightened many away..." The values of the Shaker community reflect that of a family; not a society of couples.

Answer choice B is also incorrect. The "Shakers: Part 1" video and the website both maintain the fact that the Shaker community was celibate. The first video confirms "...[the Shakers] did not marry or bear children..." Therefore, the Shakers did not practice polygamy because they did not marry. …show more content…
The Shakers did participate in economic activities such as farming and manufacturing- but that was not the extent of their economic undertakings. Part 2 of the Shakers video expounds the variety of occupations the Shakers had. "The Shakers were farmers, carpenters, printers, bakers, merchants, chemists, and architects."

Answer choice D is the only accurate answer choice presented. The website was the main support of the fact that the Shakers were celibate. "...[Brother Arnold Hadd] lives a monastic lifestyle..." This quote proves that Shakers were celibate because monks practice celibacy. Moreover, the article refers to him as Brother Arnold Hadd. Also, when Brother Arnold Hadd explains why the inductees left, he mentions anchors the fact that celibacy is part of the Shaker lifestyle. "Surprisingly, celibacy is rarely the deal-breaker."

Answer choice E is accurate because the Shakers did not build families by reproducing. They were celibate- as proven before- and therefore did not increase in number by having large families. "Only about three dozen people have decided to undergo a year long trial period," the website stated. Instead of having large families, the Shakers inducted their members through a year long trial

Fate and Freewill in the Odyssey

...mythology, the Greek Gods are always very key, important figures throughout the story often becoming involved and interfering in the characters lives personally. The gods determine the paths of the characters—creating the characters’ fate.  But the characters have to choose to embark on the journey, symbolizing their choice in free will. In the story of The Odyssey told by Homer, the gods have consistently intervened in the lives of Telemachos, Penelope, and Odysseus guiding them along their path chosen by the Gods but letting them have some choice in it. In some situations it is necessary for the Gods to intervene. In order to get the ball rolling for Telemachus, Athene had to go into disguise and persuade Telemachos to go on the journey. It was Telemachos fate to be reunited with his father, but it was his own freewill to choose how to go on a quest to find him. Without the intervention and persuasion of Athene, Telemachos would have simply been a bystander, hoping Odysseus would come back and rid his palace of the suitors instead of doing something about it himself. When Athene inquires about the big feast that is taking place for the suitors Telemachos answers, ‘My guest, since indeed you are asking me all these questions, there was a time...

Ebola Monologue

I have been properly educated in writing from her mother, but that is all. Now starting to heal, I have decided I will either choose the path of a workhouse and live in gross conditions with other people and countless diseases, or I could accept my invitation the infamous pick-pocketing gang, The Salty Codgers, and live a life of risk. As of now I am unsure of my decision, but I am sure I will pick the right choice. “ So what’s your name honey? You come ‘eer to work?” An old ragged clothed lady had walked up to Makaila, presumably the manager of the workhouse. “I- I’m Ma- Makaila,”...

My Home-Made Biomass Gasifier

...My Home-Made Biomass Gasifier Making your own gasifier is easy I've built a lot of alternative energy projects over the years. See my home-built solar panel and wind turbine pages. I've always wanted to build a wood or biomass gasifier too. Why? Well, the internal combustion engine is really an important part of our society and the basis of a lot of our transportation and portable power technology. It isn't going to be going away any time soon. I've mastered making my own electricity from the sun and wind, but that doesn't help my truck go down the road, power the lawn mower, or run my generator on cloudy, windless days. Those all have internal combustion engines, and they all need fuel to run. I finally decided it was time to master making my own fuel. Why pay the Arabs for it if I can make a working substitute myself? So what is A biomass gasifier? Basically is a chemical reactor that converts wood, or other biomass substances, into a combustible gas that can be burned for heating, cooking, or for running an internal combustion engine. This is achieved by partially combusting the biomass in the reactor, and using the heat generated to pyrolyse or thermally break down the rest of the material into volatile gasses. A well built reactor will also convert combustion byproducts like CO2 and water vapor into flammable CO and H2 by passing them over a bed of hot charcoal where they will get reduced.    Thus the gasifier converts most of the mass of the wood (or other...

Anne O. Beatty's Ethos Pathos Logos

... This first statement gives her the credibility and believability of her knowledge of the topic, credibility does not always take the form of a piece of paper, it can be in the form of experiences and encounters as well. To further her credibility on the topic being wrote about, Beatty shares some of the tragedies that her students befell. She addresses only a small portion of the very large list of dead students. She describes how the children she knew died in a very frank and detached way, you can feel the monotone vibrations from her voice while reading the ink. You can tell this by the structure of her sentences, she frequently adds commas for a pause affect. Beatty exhibits how these kids were only a grain of salt in the salt shaker, her choppy cut up sentences give a rushed feeling indicating that the deaths of children were frequent enough that they struggled to keep up with the casualties, catching the steady flow of salt in her...

Encouragement to Be Faithful

...2 Tim 1 Encouragement to Be Faithful 3I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 8So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,  10but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. 2 Tim 2 2And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 20In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 22Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love...

It’s a gift to us people during our bad days or the not-so-bad-days (stressful days). The “ancestor” of bubble tea originated in the early 80’s from a tea shop called Chun Shui Tang (春水堂) in Taichung, Taiwan. Unlike the fully loaded pearl milk tea, the oldest form of bubble tea was made by mixing cold black tea with fructose syrup using a shaker. According to Liu Han-Chieh (劉漢介), the founder of the tea shop, his wife named it bubble tea after seeing the layer of foam that ended up on top of the tea. After successfully marking a turning point for Taiwanese tea culture, Liu introduced the pearl milk tea in 1987. In the beginning, other ingredients were added to the milk tea such as fruits and sugar coated yam. (http://recultured.com/fooddrinks/09/the-history-of-pearl-milk-tea).
