An issue has surfaced in Hawaii in regards to the coverage of news. Three news stations; KHNL, KGMB, and KFVE are involved in a joint-service agreement, more specifically a shared-service agreement that enables them to be produced by the same newsroom. These stations air the same footage, broadcasts, and stories which constricts diversity of the media. This has created conflict on whether or not these agreements should be allowed because they go against ownership limits. When brought to the attention of the Federal Communications Commision, they allowed it because no broadcast license had been exchanged; everything they had done was legal. The share-service agreement does however decrease the number of voices in the media, negatively impacting …show more content…
Broadcasters make the argument that these deals save jobs, positively affecting the economy. However, once the agreements are made, many employees are often cut from the job. This is seen several times through research of news platforms that have undergone the change. In Hawaii alone, 68 people lost their jobs after KHNL, KGMB, and KFVE partook in the agreement. This proved to be the same case in Idaho Falls, ID, where twentyseven lost their jobs and in Providence, RI, where 15 lost their jobs. Sharing resources allows stations to make cuts. Shared footage means less photographers, while the same stories enables stations to let go off some writers and reporters. In turn, behind the scenes crewmen such as producers and editors are needed less. The decrease in employees has caused a decrease of voices in the media. Research has been done to investigate the actions of news stations after taking part in a shared-service agreement. Danilo Yanich, a professor at the University of Delaware, and his students. They researched eight television markets for the content they aired. Yanich and his students found that once the markets had a shared-service agreement in effect, the number of unique stories decreased, while the number of shared stories increased. Yanich’s research proved the broadcasters wrong and bolstered the idea that they had negative effects on the media, the public, and

Once the writers are lucid about the technique of writing an essay and how to write an essay outline, the next step that they face up to is how to move toward a particular research paper topic. And what type of writing works best? Students often complain about a certain type of essay they have been assigned with. It seems to them that writing within essay type boundaries doesn’t allow them to think out the box, limits their potential. But writing a paper without any directions could be even more confusing than the class assignment you got. Do not think about the limitations as of the prison walls, but as of the walls in your room where you feel free to paint murals or change nothing whatsoever, simply being in control of it, being yourself. One of the reasons for that is the shocking fact that the poor often pay more taxes, relatively, than do the rich. In Britain, for example, “the tax burden of the top fifth of earners has fallen from 37 percent to 35 percent in the last twenty years. In contrast, the tax burden of the bottom fifth has risen from 31 percent to 38 percent.” The other reason for social inequality nationally is imperfect income distribution. Thus, whereas 23.5 percent of all American workers received only poverty level wages in 1973, this had risen to 28.6 percent by 1997. Looked at another way, real wages for relatively low-paid workers fell by 22 percent between 1973 and 1995, and 10 percent for middle-range workers. Low-paid jobs grew by 22 percent in New York City between 1993 and 2000—four...

Without doubt, the twin aviation disasters, MH370 and MH17, have also further contributed negatively towards MAS financials. The former prime minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that the national flag carrier should be privatised as it is running at a loss. The Malaysia Airlines System Employees Union (Maseu), on the other hand, strongly stated that they will only support the privatisation of MAS if there is to be a new management team. In the past 12 years, MAS has undertaken about half-a-dozen restructuring exercises. Considering its current situation, the idea to privatise is seen as a necessity. In your opinion, can MAS turn itself around if it is now to be privatised? Why or why not? Justify your stand and support your arguments with reasons and examples. You should write between 600 and 650 words. Instructor: Mrs Anuratha Murugagoo On 8 August 2014, Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) proposed an official petition to the Board of Directors of Malaysian Airline System Berhad (“MAS”) to handle a particular capital cutback and refund apply (“Proposed SCR”) of MAS’ ordinary shares.
