Polishing Military Combat Boots
By
Chris Greene

Hello everyone my name is Chris Greene today I am going to do a presentation on the art of polishing your military combat boots. The art of polishing military combat boots did not come natural to me, because I had to actually to learn all the Air Force techniques while I was attending Air Force basic training some 30 years ago. While in basic training every Airman had to have their combat boots polished every day prior to the morning formation. The entire flight had to learn all the Air Force techniques to polishing our boots and make them shine like glass so that our drill instructors would not yell at us or pull our 341’s for dirty combat boots. So I am going to share some of that knowledge that I gained 30 years ago and have applied ever since, with you today and also cover some of the materials that you will need to polish your combat boots, the procedures that it takes to shine the boots, and we will also discuss how to get to the final mirrored finish on the boots.
First you will need to purchase a shoe shine kit; I prefer using Kiwi however there is others out there you can purchase that are just as good. The contents of the shoe shine kit normally consists of black shoe polish, a heavy brush which is used to remove dirt, dust and soil from your combat boots, an applicator brush – which will be used to apply the shoe polish to your combat boots, a shoe shining cloth - which you will use to buff your combat boots after you have applied the polish. I also like to include several small cotton balls, a toothbrush and water bottle. When I go to shine my boots I usually like to do it outside or in the garage some place where I can knock off the large pieces of dirt, because they are normally pretty dirty since I work in Civil Engineering. Step one - remove the old polish by pouring boiling hot water over the boot and then take the heavy brush and brush the entire boot to remove as much of the old polish as you can, also knock off as much dirt as you can. If you can’t get all of the dirt off with the brush then take a wet cloth or paper towel and remove the dirt. Depending on how much shoe polish you have on your boots you might have to repeat this step several times. Once this step is completed the entire boot should look non-reflective. The second step in the process is that I insert a water bottle in to the combat pushing out the boot to make it easier to put the shoe polish on. Step three use either the applicator brush or a cloth, if using a cloth wrap it around your index finger making sure that there are no wrinkles in the cloth, apply shoe polish to the applicators and spread a medium to thick layer of polish on the entire boot going in small circles you don’t want the circles too big. Step four take the toothbrush and apply shoe polish to it and rub around the welts of the entire combat boot to apply polish, if this step is not completed then the welts of the boots will stick out like red paint on a white shirt. Step five I take the heavy brush and brush over the entire boot evening out the shoe polish. Step six wait approximately 5 minutes until the polish looks cloudy or a greyish color before you go onto the next step. Step seven once the polish is completely dry, then you will use the polishing cloth provided and start buffing the entire boot removing all of the excess polish. Step eight take the top off the shoe polish can and pour water in it. Step nine then you will dip your cotton balls in the water making sure not to soak them thoroughly and then apply a small amount of shoe polish to the cotton ball and then gently start going in circular motions on the entire boot. I sometimes will just do that to the toe of the boots depending upon what shine I am looking for. Make sure that you don’t put too much pressure while doing this because you can scratch the shoe polish. You repeat this last step several times until you get the mirrored finish on your boots that you are looking for.
So as you can see there is really not a whole lot to polishing your military combat boots. It usually takes about an hour to accomplish depending how soiled they are. The good news is once you get the initial first coat and mirrored finish on the combat boots, the following times will be even quicker to accomplish. So what we have covered today is all of the material you need to polish your boots, such as a heavy brush, applicator brush, polish, cotton balls, a toothbrush and some water. As you can see in the below picture you can get the mirrored finish on your combat boots that you have always wanted.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to listen to my speech.

Are You Redy Boots

...Are You Ready, Boots? 1. The story starts in medias res. A woman named Lulu and her good friends Spencer and Betty are out shopping shoes after having had a lunch accompanied by two bottles of Chrystal. Lulu is trying on some very high, very kinky boots and is really excited about them. She ends up buying them, though kind of regretting it several months later and not wearing them until later in the winter when she, one evening, goes out with Spencer and some of his pals. They go to a bar and here she meets a guy called Charlie. He is the perfect man; handsome, British, rich and very charming. They start going out and Lulu is very fond of him. Though her friend Spencer finds him boring and not fun enough for his best friend, Lulu still accept Charlie’s offer to be his girlfriend and go meet his parents. One evening Lulu wears the boots she wore the day they met and Charlie tells her how hideous and slutty he finds them. Then Lulu’s mind is made up: Charlie is a boring, pompous ass and so wrong for her, so she ends up leaving him. 2. Lulu is the main character. She is a typical modern woman. Full of ambitions, fashion-minded and longing for her “soul mate”. She thinks she wants a rich, well educated and seemingly perfect man, but finds herself wrong when she dumps Charlie. Although the story doesn’t exactly say she leaves Charlie, that is what I get from the last line in the story: “Are you ready boots?” I said to them. “Start walking.” She has a sense of humour (told...

I had never been away from my mother and this was a step that could only be made by me. So I took responsibility; grabbed by bags; and heading off to boot camp. No one actually knew what a head was for me, but once I got there, I showed what It meant to me. Exercising every day and eating foods that I have never tasted before was a huge difference in this transition of being a Marine. Learning to shoot rifles from 500 yards and climbing tress the size of 20 story building was also a cultural shock. Being yelled at and having to care and protect others became second nature as well as discipline and loyalty. The day I graduated from boot camp was the day I became a man. The clarity of what it is to be responsible and accountable for your own actions was the plot of my drill instructors. The entire time I thought I was training to be in shape and look nice in my uniform. But in all actuality I was learning how to prepare for any situation that I may face in my life. Shining my boots and ensuring I was on time for drill. All this played a major part in my career and as I started to deploy to other countries. It...

The Art of Persistence

...“April Kudson!” shouted the police officer, loudly and carelessly ticking off the roll call. The sounds of juvenile prisoners screaming in anger, kicking on the concrete walls in frustration and the banging on the hard, cold metal bars started echoing in the gloomy hallways. April couldn’t catch her breath, “How could my life come to this? Seventeen years of trying to survive in misery and i ended up in this hell-hole.” Her head was spinning, blood rapidly rushing to her head all at once. She felt a firm hand wrapped around her neck tightly, “Getting released today, huh? Well here’s my present, happy birthday bitch!” screamed a girl, jealousy in her eyes and flared nostrils like a true savage. Five against one, bulky girls with tattoo sleeves all crowded April, pounded and kicked her until she was choking on her own blood, wounds gushed out pain, anger, humiliation. The police officers aggressively pried and tackled the girls off April. Sadly enough this was the least amount of torment she had felt in years. April was finally released that very same day, 18th of September. Stepping out into the sun, feeling the heat, sending a satisfying shiver down your spine, that should feel liberating but all she could feel was remorse and the scorching sun burning her skin. And there she was, the devil herself, Mrs. Hornburg, of all the people in West Virginia she had to be the head of Greenwood orphanage. She gave a coy smirk as she saw April coming down, her dark brown hair blowing in...

Fiction

...PROLOGUE Fortress of the Light Pedron Niall's aged gaze wandered about his private audience chamber, but dark eyes hazed with thought saw nothing. Tattered wall hangings, once battle banners of the enemies of his youth, faded into dark wood paneling laid over stone walls, thick even here in the heart of the Fortress of the Light. The single chair in the room heavy, high-backed, and almost a throne - was as invisible to him as the few scattered tables that completed the furnishings. Even the white-cloaked man kneeling with barely restrained eagerness on the great sunburst set in the wide planks of the floor had vanished from Niall's mind for the moment, though few would have dismissed him so lightly. Jaret Byar had been given time to wash before being brought to Niall, but both his helmet and his breastplate were dulled from travel and battered from use. Dark, deep-set eyes shone with a feverish, urgent light in a face that seemed to have had every spare scrap of flesh boiled away. He wore no sword - none was allowed in Niall's presence - but he seemed poised on the edge of violence, like a hound awaiting the loosing of the leash. Twin fires on long hearths at either end of the room held off the late winter cold. It was a plain, soldier's room, really, everything well made but nothing extravagant except for the sunburst. Furnishings came to the audience chamber of the Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light with the man who rose to the office; the...

...Chapter 1: The End and Beginning Prologue Facing the young girl and her little sister, the armored knight raised his sword. To have mercy was to take away a life in a single strike. Struck by the sunlight, the sword glistened high up in the air. The girl shut her eyes and bit down on her lower lip. Her expression showed that she never wished for this situation. She was simply accepting it since there was nothing she could do. If the girl had power of some sort, she would have used it on the man before her eyes and ran away. But— the girl had no such power. Thus there existed only one conclusion. The girl would surely perish here. The sword struck down — —Yet she did not feel any pain. The girl opened her tightly shut eyes. The first thing that the girl saw in her world was the sword that had stopped in its path downward. The next thing that entered her sight was its wielder. He had stopped in motion as though he were encased in ice. The knight’s attention was no longer on the girl. The completely defenseless state of the knight clearly revealed the shock that surged inside him. As though led by the knight’s gaze, the girl also turned her face toward the same direction. Then— she saw despair. There was darkness. Pure darkness as thin as paper, yet of an unfathomable depth. It had emerged from the ground in an ovoid shape with its lower section cut. A scene that evoked mystique with indescribable apprehension. A...

Title

...At liftoff, Matt Eversmann said a Hail Mary. He was curled into a seat between two helicopter crew chiefs, the knees of his long legs up to his shoulders. Before him, jammed on both sides of the Black Hawk helicopter, was his "chalk," twelve young men in flak vests over tan desert camouflage fatigues. He knew their faces so well they were like brothers. The older guys on this crew, like Eversmann, a staff sergeant with five years in at age twenty-six, had lived and trained together for years. Some had come up together through basic training, jump school, and Ranger school. They had traveled the world, to Korea, Thailand, Central America... they knew each other better than most brothers did. They'd been drunk together, gotten into fights, slept on forest floors, jumped out of airplanes, climbed mountains, shot down foaming rivers with their hearts in their throats, baked and frozen and starved together, passed countless bored hours, teased one another endlessly about girlfriends or lack of same, driven in the middle of the night from Fort Benning to retrieve each other from some diner or strip club on Victory Drive after getting drunk and falling asleep or pissing off some barkeep. Through all those things, they had been training for a moment like this. It was the first time the lanky sergeant had been put in charge, and he was nervous about it. Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death, Amen. It was midafternoon, October 3, 1993. Eversmann's Chalk Four...
