Bob Knight is one of the historic icons of Indiana Basketball. He is an absolute legend in the city of Bloomington. Now how awesome would it be if you had the opportunity to just hang out with him for a couple hours of so? Believe it or not, my Uncle Joe actually did. According to his story, it happend he was shooting his rifle at IU’s old rifle range below the union when Bob Knight randomly showed up in with his rifle in hand ready to shoot. Next thing you know, my uncle and Bob Knight were in the middle of a very intense shoot out. I am proud to say that was the day when my uncle Joe bested the legend himself, Bobby Knight. To this day my uncle says it was his most memorable moment of his entire shooting career. Unfortunately, IU ended up getting rid of that old rifle range and all the fun that came along with it.

But now I believe that it is time for the city of Bloomington to resurrect an indoor shooting range.

After talking with some of the members of Martinsville’s gun club, they said that the demand for an indoor shooting range is very high. An indoor shooting range will allow the committee to learn and become educated about guns, gun safety, and self-defense. According to findyourrange.org the nearest indoor rifle range to Bloomington is in Indianapolis. That’s entirely to far away. A shooting range would also provide people, especially college students, a temporary stress relief from school. Another reason why Bloomington needs a place like this is because guns in general been given a very bad connotation with them. The community is in dire need of a place where they can better understand guns and gun safety.

Hi, My name is Jeff Seng and I am here to encourage you potential investors, to invest in my business called “Seng’s Shooting Range”.

Today, I am going to tell you what exactly my business is, why it will succeed, why it will benefit the community, and why it will turn a profit.

In its most basic form my business will essentially combine a gun store, shooting range, and a small classroom

First, let me tell you how the gun store will work. Obviously, it is going to allow the customer to buy new and used firearms. It will also sell gun accessories. Many of these accessories are geared toward women. Women will be able to by pepper spray, mace, and even whistles. But the coolest part of our gun store is that it is going to allow customers to rent guns to use them directly on the range. Now that is the fun part! “Seng’s Shooting Range” will provide a large variety of guns including handguns, rifles, shotguns, and assault rifles such as your M-16. The last part of my gun store will include a gun cleaning and gunsmithing area to deal with malfunctioning firearms.

Now that we have taken a look at the Gun Store lets take a look at what I am going to do with the shooting range.

The shooting range is going to consist of 15 to 20 shooting stalls that are all 50 yards long. It will feature a state of the art target moving system, backstop for the bullets, and ventilation system, which will provide the customer with a wonderful shooting atmosphere.

Now that I talked a little about the range you still may be wondering as to why I am attaching a classroom to my business.

The reason is this: I want “Seng’s Shooting Range” to not only educate people about guns but to teach them skills that will remain with them throughout there lifetime. Some examples of classes that we will offer are: Zombie Survival Class, Hunter Safety class, and Build Your Own M-4 class. And that’s not all; we are going to provide classes specifically for women so they can learn to defend themselves. According to city-data.com in 2010 there were 202 assault cases and 31 rape cases in the Bloomington area.. Theses classes will help women and men alike to be able to defend themselves in there time of need.

I understand as investors you may think this is a very risky investment because there are an ungodly amount of safety risks and environment factors that go along with a business like this. That is precisely why I am personally going to show you how we are going to deal with each and every one of these issues.

The first issue is sound. Trust me it’s not going to be an issue. We are going to use Troy Sound Wall System, which according to actiontarget.com reduces all sound vibrations by 98%. The second issue deals with lead on the range. To deal with this issue “Seng’s Shooting Range” only allows the use of Full Metal Jacket ammunition so no lead will be released. Lastly, and probably the most important, is the safety of our customers. We want them to feel safe while in our store and on our range. Once I open my store, I am personally going to guarantee my customers safety. This is why I have come up with my very own safety plan that outlines all the safety precautions that will be followed by the customer and by us. So you know what my business is and you know how we are going to deal with all the safety concerns and environmental hazards. Lets now get to the exciting stuff like how much is it going to cost, and how is it going to be profitable to you?

Lets first start with the costs. After talking with several model business owners I have estimated the initial start up cost to be anywhere from 1-3 million dollars depending on the size. I know that price seems a pretty steep but you have to remember that the majority of the cost is a one time, FIXED, cost and can be made back pretty quickly.

Lets now move on to the potential profit.

When accessing profit you first have to look at your local demographics. According to a survey done by bloomington.in.gov, in 2010, Bloomington had a population of 80,000 people and Monroe County as a whole had a population of 140,000. In addition, Southern Indiana is home to thousands of hunters. “Seng’s Shooting Range” will be the only destination in southern Indiana where they can enjoy an indoor shooting range, especially in the wintertime. As you can see there won't be a problem of getting customers into the store. And according to nssf.org the average money that a customer spends at a given 5 star shooting range is $25 a person. Here's very rough estimate of the profit from the gun range. That number that doesn’t even factor in the revenue earned from the memberships, classes, the gun store, and the gunsmithing service.. As you can see the profits from this one small business can become substantial within a few short years.

Remember the story I told you about in the beginning of my presentation about my Uncle and Bob Knight?
