Essay #1 Final Draft It was Christmas morning of the year 2015, my family and I were eager to open our gifts. My grandma bought my sister and me furry boots from an online catalogue which fit neither of us. My sister bought my grandma a new Dirt Devil vacuum from walmart.com which ended up having missing parts. I personally bought all of my family’s gifts from traditional stores because I knew that it would minimize the hassles that online shopping may cause. Although purchasing things online seems like an efficient way to buy things, it is actually time consuming, frustrating, and a misleading way of obtaining ones items. During my own experience while shopping online, I have noticed that I am almost always unsatisfied when shopping for apparel. The reasons for my dissatisfaction usually include the item not being true to the dimensions given in the description and/or the overall quality of the product not meeting my expectations. According to a study by the University Of Regensburg: “E-commerce: why and how often customers sent stuff back”, fashion has a very high return rate. They discovered that forty-eight percent of E-commerce says that they have a return rate of twenty-five and fifty percent. This is significant because the study is showing us that descriptions truly are misleading and on average, you will be disappointed with at least one-fourth to one-half of your clothing purchases. In addition to returning items because of the deceiving information provided by online retailers, sellers often times have outrageous return policies that could upset even the most well tempered people. For example, my sister bought a one-piece bathing suit online that she decided to return because it turned out to be a completely different size, pattern, and color scheme. The policy is if you return an item you

Comparing Online Shopping with Traditional Shopping

...Comparing Online Shopping with Traditional Shopping Online shopping has grown to new heights over the last decade and shows no signs of slowing down. The internet has brought practically every store in the world to the fingertips of anyone with internet access. Shopping online gives the user the opportunity to search for the product they want through endless avenues. Online shopping has grown so large that many companies are not investing in buildings and mall space, rather in online websites and web advertising. Through this paper I will discuss the reasons why shopping online is a better alternative to traditional shopping. The first benefit of online shopping is the convenience. While others are out fighting traffic and waiting in lines, online shoppers are home relaxing. Online shoppers can go from store to store with a flick of a mouse, while traditional shoppers have to walk, drive or can’t get to the stores they want. Online shoppers also benefit when it comes to comparison shopping. Traditional shoppers have to put a lot of work into comparison shopping. They have to drive from place to place find items and price and go onto the next place. This can be exhausting and stressful. The online shopper can do this from his or her couch. Online shoppers can search the planet for the product they are looking for, while traditional shoppers are limited to a small area. When it comes to seeing, touching, and trying out a new product, there is no...

Online vs Traditional Shopping

...Composition Assignment 05 - Comparison-Contrast Essay November 30, 2014 The Differences between Traditional and Online Shopping The differences between traditional shopping and online shopping are numerous and varied. Each has its' own advantages; each has its' disadvantages. A few points to consider are: comparison shopping, inspecting an item, returns, shipping, item availability, and convenience. Online shopping offers the ability to compare prices quickly and easily. By simply checking competing websites, you can find the best price in a matter of minutes. With traditional shopping, you would have to drive to different locations to check the prices. Then you would have to return to the store with the better price. Traditional shopping does offer the chance to inspect an item before purchasing it; clothing, for example. You could try the item on in the store to see if it fits correctly. In contrast, when shopping online you have to guess at the correct size, and wait for the item to be delivered to try it. Perhaps you do purchase an incorrect size, or the item has been damaged. With traditional shopping, you only have to drive back to the store where you bought the item, and return it for an instant refund. If you bought it online, however, you have to ship it back to the retailer, and then wait for the refund. You may also have to pay the return postage costs. If you choose traditional shopping, you are able to take your purchases home immediately;...

Jeff Bezos created the company in 1994 from his garage in Bellevue, Washington. At that time books were the only product sold to customers. The company went public and started selling music and movies in 1997. Over the last 14 years the site has included many more products to the list of items that they sell such as apparel, electronics, DVD’s, toys, games, etc. This essay will discuss if Amazon.com is moving away from its core competency of being an online retailer and the competitive areas between Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. We will also address the uses of Amazon.com database; possible data management issues; the relationship among Amazon’s data, information, and knowledge. The essay will conclude by describing how the retailer uses e-business and e-commerce for B2B and B2C. Transition from Core Competency While Amazon.com remains the top retail provider amongst sales, the profit margins are not as high as investors want them to be (Rainer & Turban, 2008). Profits have fallen, and the operating margins are at 4.9 %, which is below Wal-Mart whose margin is 5.1 % (Rainer & Turban, 2008).
