Shoulder subluxation occurs when the head of the humerus partially dislocates from the glenohumeral joint. The shoulder can dislocate in a single direction or more than one, which is known as multi-directional instability, although it typically occurs anteriorly as the front of the shoulder is normally the weakest. Subluxations can lead to pain and a numbing tingling sensation going down the arm, with some people subluxations don’t cause pain they are simply annoying to deal with. The dislocation can be caused by an action, such as throwing a ball, or it can stem from anatomical abnormalities like a shallow glenoid fossa, or misshaped humerus head. Shoulder subluxations are often associated with shoulder instability, which is a weakness or unstable feeling in the glenohumeral joint, because one can lead to the other. If a person suffers from subluxations the likely cause would be instability in the joint, and if a person has an unstable shoulder joint that can increase the chance of a subluxation or full dislocation of the shoulder. i I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I …show more content…
The glenoid labrum is a ring of cartilage responsible for deepening the glenoid fossa and providing improved stability. The joint capsule is a membrane encompassing the entire joint, maintaining the joint complex and holding the synovial fluid in place. Ligaments attach bone to bone and help restrict unwanted movement, muscles help to create movement in the joint, but work with ligaments to keep unwanted movement from occurring. Instability in the shoulder can be caused by trauma to the joint typically because of a specific injury or accident, an old injury in which the joint wasn’t fully recuperated, or joint laxity which stems from anatomical abnormalities, or muscle

ABSTRACT Objective: This study investigates the clinical utility of testing functional systems within the central nervous system, compared to testing individual motor nerves with manual muscle testing. Design: Private practice. Study Subjects: Patients were examined by the treating chiropractor from his existing patient pool. Methods: Chiropractic management was decided on by the treating chiropractor. A series of twelve tests were designed to discover disorders of functional systems within the CNS. The tests described were to evaluate the function of 12 systems: 1) spinal cord, 2) myelencephalon/reticular formation, 3) vagal system, 4) trigeminal motor system-muscles of mastication, 5) vestibulospinal system, and bulbo reticular area, 6) reticular formation, 7) diencephalons and gait locomotion system, 8) mesencephalon, 9) cardiac sympathetic autonomic system, 10) pyramidal system, 11) limbic system, 12) sensory system.
