Sight Beyond The Human Eye Our eyes are only the surface of our sight. If one searches deeper they have the ability to see things beyond their eyesight. It can travel into thoughts to make everything seem like it is an entirely different story. As you read the two poems constructed by Emily Dickinson you can see a hidden message within it. We grow accustomed to the dark has more meaning to it than one would see at first glimpse. Before I got my eye put out also displays a view that isn’t directly shown.

We grow accustomed to the dark is a piece that describes how we tend to get used to the darkness. The message taken from this piece is that many of us struggle through tough times and we don’t like change so we are all stuck in the dark after tragedy. But many fail to see it’s a bright side which is why many fail to see the light. But once we see the light your life begins to become easier. When light is put away we grow accustomed to the dark which means once our happiness is stolen from …show more content…
As time grew she began to be grateful for her lack of eyesight. But why does she want to be blind instead of have the same view as others? The explanation is that she would rather be blind because the luxury of sight is too much. She can now take in the little things like they are all hers. “But were it told to me, Today, That I might have the sky For mine, I tell you that my Heart Would split. For the size of me” Here you can see that Emily Dickinson is very happy that she doesn’t have her eyesight. She is happy because she doesn’t want to just view the sky like everyone else does. Maybe she can feel it or view it in a different way. “So safer – guess – with just my soul Opon the window pane Where other creatures put their eyes” This is another example of how she would rather look with her soul instead of her eyes. The human eye is just a piece of

...comprehension of the topic under discussion, there is a great need to explain what sensory means and what perceptions it has over human life. Sensory comes from a Latin word ‘sentire’ meaning ‘to perceive, feeling.’ This also describes something related to sensation – something that you feel with your physical senses. The physical senses that enable man to perceive things, feel things etc. These sense that enable human being to perceive and feel thing include the eyes, the nose, the tongue, the ears and the body sensation. For example the eyes is used for sight, the nose for smelling things and the ears for sounds. All these sense enriched the brain and link the brain as we think. The three factors that may ensure the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information would be limited biologically, we see the superficial; (using the sight for example) can deceive our brain as have been mentioned above limited biologically. Same o the sight example, it would be stated that our sensory of information would be accurate or inaccurate due to corralled by custom, we see the habitual; and lastly blinded by language, we see the general. In further explanation to the mentioned factors, it happens that our sight can deceive us by mere recognition of the appearance of a substance which in reality does not have the real qualities seen in our sight. For instance, the sight used in seeing objects and telling of the nature can observe a nice or decorated cake to be delicious but the taste senses which...

Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder

...M**** S******* Engl 1201 – 17 Chapter Four Paper October 11, 2013           Beauty Lies Within The Eyes Of The Beholder The year is now 2010 and as we enter this new decade, we encounter so many new trends, fashion and styles. No matter what your budget might be, it seems like everyone has the same goal in mind. They want to be beautiful and look “beautiful.” Grace Suh’s essay, “Eye of the Beholder,” details her struggle as a Korean girl to conform to a Western ideal of beauty. After her makeover, Suh felt negated and also felt like a stranger was staring back at her when she looked at herself in the mirror. Finally, she realizes that she was content with the way she naturally looked, which causes her to leave the makeup behind her on the commuter train. To me, beauty is not only something that pleases the eyes, but also pleases the other senses and the mind. I think true beauty makes you see beyond the lovely sight. It will give you insight or realization of something interesting beyond just the outward appearance. Think about the word beautiful for a moment, when we talk about beauty in people, we often refer to their physical attractiveness. Of course, a beautiful or handsome face is pleasant to look at. But I find that the most memorable "beautiful people" are the ones who have captivating personalities behind the beautiful faces. In my high school graduating class, there were two girls whose beauty just stood out among the rest, Chelsea and Tressa. ...

Raymond Carver’s Story, "Cathedral’

...Raymond Carver’s story, "Cathedral’, talks about an outside relationship within a marriage that is established between the narrator’s wife and a blind man. The story elaborates how the relationship can affect the normal relations of the couple. Communication in that marriage is not as effective as expected. Also, the privacy of the husband is affected. However, openness results to seeing a cathedral when the husband explains what it is to the blind man. The title is based on the cathedral but the story is about two men who have a problem seeing. In Franz Kafka’s story, "A Hunger Artist," a man, who the writer calls “Hunger Artist”, sets on a journey with his impresario from one town to the other and finds a public place to show his fasting skills. The man is locked up in a cage and he fasts for a period of forty days. During his fasting period, people are not attracted to his intensions but suspect that he is sneaking food. He is frustrated when the town people assign butchers to ensure that he feeds on nothing. The allow him to eat. Eventually, the manager sees that the man will die and feeds him forcefully. Later, the man dies. The cage was replaced with a panther that eats hungrily and attracts many people to it. The hunger artist is a symbol of how the world is. The artist represents the part of the world that needs attention from everyone. The Wolf and Dog

...The wolf has had an influence on the culture, art, and lore of human society since before historical times. The wolf is one of the most misunderstood animals in all of history. Theirs is a proud, yet sad, history. The wolf and dog are different species but yet have so much in common. Dogs were originally classified as “Canis familiaris”, in 1758. However, in 1993, dogs were reclassified as a subspecies of the gray wolf and renamed “canis lupus familiaris.”While it is true that there have been speculations that dogs may have descended from several species of canines, the wolf appears to ultimately be the ancestor of man’s best friend. The dog and wolf both share the same number of chromosomes (78, arranged in 39 pairs). The dog and the wolf can mate and give life to offspring. There are good chances indeed, that in the past the two species may have interbred, whether because of feral dogs may have escaped from being domesticated or because some wolves may have separated from their pack and started looking for a soul mate. At the same time, the outward appearance of wolves and dogs is markedly different. The wolf’s skeleton is higher and has a more arched spine. The wolf’s legs are heavier in build and are usually longer. Dogs and wolves run differently. A dog runs with a loping, almost casual gait, while wolves run in a springing motion with force from the hind legs propelling them forward. One main difference between the wolf and the dog is the mating; a dog can...

Allegory Of The Cave Vs Cave Essay

...Grade three thinkers are naïve, they just follow what anyone tells them to do and they do not see what is in front of them. “But in those days I viewed grade-three thinking with an intolerant contempt and an incautious mockery.”(Golding, 130) They rather feel than think. This relates to Plato’s essay in many different ways. Plato’s essay describes how these prisoners where born in a cave and held captive. Chained down with no food or water and the only thing they could see was what was on the wall in front of them. This builds the prisoners false ideas of the world. They are blinded by anything and everything and all they know and understand is what is on that wall. “Human beings living in an underground den, which has a mouth open toward the...

Lang's M Analysis of

...paranoid people restlessly accuse each other of being child murderers, because of their visual interpretations. Within the first ten minutes of the film we are shown adults arguing, almost embarrassingly, on whose recollection of what they saw is more accurate: adults yell at each other: Red! Green! Red! Green! In this way the efficacy of seeing as an objective medium to gathering evidence, and even what counts as being evidence is questioned. In this paper I will explore the question: “What constitutes evidence?” by focusing on the coalescence and manipulation of evidence through sight in ‘M’. Despite the ostensible validity a fingerprint or paperwork may hold, and the objectivity police seemingly have, police still end up gathering these pieces of evidence in such a way that they actually invalidate them. The film portrays this manipulation of data by showing how police inspection (through bare sight), creates a sense of control over how things are seen and the impending problems with controlling how things are seen. Police commissioner, Lohmann, is shown seated as a line files past him one by one as he inspects their paperwork for them to identify and thereby prove their identities. A person has no paperwork, another is inspected to have fake paperwork, and a newspaper article overrides valid paperwork. He constantly dismisses their forms of evidence as not being enough to prove their identities, and thereby brings into question the ability for such paperwork to fulfill a...

Plato's Cave

...course brings him to the Form of the Good. He tells the Allegory of the Cave as a conversation between his teacher Socrates who inspired many of Plato's philosophical theories and Glaucon. In the dialogue between Socrates and Glaucon, Socrates asks Glaucon to imagine a cave, in which prisoners have been kept since their childhood, and each of them is held where they are all chained so that their legs and necks are unable to turn or allow them to move. This leaves them in a predicament where they’re forced to look at a wall in front of them. Behind the prisoners is a fire and between the fire and the prisoners is a raised walkway (bridge), on which people can walk. These people are shadow play, and they are carrying objects, in the shape of human and animal figures, as well as everyday items. The prisoners could only see these flickering images on the wall, since they could not move their heads; and so, naturally enough, they assumed the images to be real, rather than just shadowy representations of what is actually real. They believe the shadows are true, as well as the echoed voices they hear; they also believe to be true. Then one day one prisoner is released. This prisoner walks up into the sunlight, which...

Holocaust Diary Entry

...my friends killed alongside me, people I had known for years, just gone like that, being forced to camp on boggy, cold fields with just a mug of coffee to keep the harsh winter away. But no, I was wrong, oh so very wrong. Today has shocked me; I am speechless to say the least. I have seen things that have made me physically sick. Things that would be expected in hell even. This morning at 08:00 hours we stormed the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, situated in Northern Poland. The German Schutzstaffel (SS), some of the most feared, ruthless and cold blooded killers in the German military on guard were simply overwhelmed by the surge. This was just like a normal day for us, until we entered the camp. Nothing had prepared us for the sights and the things we were about to experience. Standing on the mushy, boggy, soaking wet, muddy ground, I looked around me, the commotion had settled down and for the first time I realised the sheer size of the camp. It was bordered by a double layered barb wire fence, blood stained pieces of torn cotton (from the inmates striped pyjamas) that were attached to the barbed wire fluttered gently in the ice cold winter breeze. The intimidating guard towers stood tall and strong as if watching over the camp, then the large, thin wooden cabins drew my attention. I advanced to the thick door at the side of the first cabin, and after a swift blow to the lock with the butt of my rifle, it swung open. Immediately I was almost taken off my feet by the...

The Barn

...The Barn It makes me smile as I drive up to the house and catch sight of the herd hanging out at the gate waiting for me, as I have been waiting for them. It has been hard day at work and I need the barn at the back of my property and the quiet that comes with it, a beautiful peace. Mistakenly, one would think that my retreat would include rest, freedom from toil. Oddly, muck buckets, scoops, bedding, and hay meet my temporal needs. The three horses that make the mess are my champions that have saved me time and again. As a child I would hide from my mother to avoid the chores that I thought were an unfair trade off to do something that I have always loved, which is ride horses. We all have sanctuaries, places of joy, where the sights, sounds, smells, and in this case, the sentinel beings dwelling within are what keep our feet on solid ground, mine is the barn. Already my mind is making a list of chores to do in the barn as the gravel crunches beneath the tires, and my truck neatly pulls into the garage. As I clamber down the running board, tension eases from my body, I am home. Immediately filled are the colored plastic buckets with the scoops of pellets that my pasture pets love. Amazingly, the trio hears the feeding preparation from almost an acre away and a cacophony of sounds ensues, including nickers, neighs, and hooves running back and forth. Any other person would surely find this racket annoying, but to these ears, it is a joyful noise after a long hard day. ...

Bluetooth and Infrared Technology

...Bluetooth and Infrared Technology Technology has grown so much over the years, thinking back to my childhood when I first saw a remote control and was over the moon with excitement. No more getting up to change the channels, that was my first thought. The first time I saw a cell phone, having to hold that big clunky thing up to your ear throughout an entire conversation was a chore. Now when you do any of these things, you see such advancements that come from two of the most popular technologies that have come to be. Bluetooth and Infrared, both have been around longer than most of us know. During my research for this paper, I learned that Infrared is where we get our remote controls for TV, for which all 80’s children are grateful, we no longer had to come inside to change the channels for our Moms. I have learned where these technologies came from, what they are used for, the people and companies that buy them, and what we can look forward to in the future. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows data to be exchanged over short distances using short wavelength radio transmissions. This technology is built into of plethora of products that allows them to exchange information over a wireless connection, or in basic terms, it allows one device to talk to another without wires. Two devices must be paired together in order to share. Several devices can be connected to a single Bluetooth, such as PDAs, mobile phones, laptops, computers, printers, controllers...

Allegory of the Cave Analysis

...different stages in a cave. These four different stages are metaphors that describe what he believed to be the different stages of knowledge: imagination, thought, understanding and good. He illustrates his metaphor by depicting a group of prisoners who have spent their entire life in the darkened cave and their passage through the distinct stages of the cave, with them starting at the lower stages of the cave and proceeding to the higher stages and eventually out of the cave, however Plato believed that we as humans are not capable of reaching the last stage of knowledge (good) and that we all stop somewhere along the first 3 stages. Just as the prisoner has to reach an understanding of the sun to start learning anything, we must first use education to understand the highest level of knowledge, and then we can start really learning. The cave is built with its mouth towards the light, so that the light reaches threw the cave to the wall at the end. There is a group of humans that sit facing the wall. They have been in the cave since birth and their legs and necks are bound by chains so that they can only look forwards to the wall, and not behind them or to their sides.
