Jawab:
1. Permasalahan yang diselesaikan oleh UPS dengan menggunakan sistem informasi adalah UPS dapat membantu pelanggan dan perusahaan untuk meningkatkan ketepatan/keakuratan waktu pengiriman (delivery). Contoh: Untuk perusahaan Nike, UPS sangat membantu meningkatkan tingkat ketepatan pemenuhan pesanannya, meningkatkan ketepatan/keakuratan waktu pengiriman (delivery) dan peningkatan pelayanan pelanggan (service to customer).
Selain itu, permasalahan lain yang diselesaikan oleh UPS dengan menggunakan sistem informasi adalah sebagai berikut:
a. Keunggulan operasional.
UPS telah mempertahankan kepemimpinan dalam paket kecil-jasa pengiriman meskipun persaingan ketat dari FedEx dan US Postal Sistem dengan investasi besar-besaran di bidang teknologi informasi canggih.
b. New produk, jasa, dan model bisnis.
Pada bulan Juni 2009 UPS meluncurkan Web-based baru Penjualan Pasca Orde Sistem Manajemen (OMS) yang mengelola pesanan layanan global dan persediaan untuk pemenuhan bagian penting. Sistem ini memungkinkan elektronik berteknologi tinggi, aerospace, peralatan medis, dan perusahaan lain di mana saja di dunia bahwa kapal bagian penting untuk cepat menilai persediaan kritis mereka bagian, menentukan strategi routing yang paling optimal untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pelanggan, order secara online, dan bagian track dari gudang ke pengguna akhir.
c. Pelanggan dan pemasok keintiman.
Pelanggan dapat men-download dan mencetak label mereka sendiri dengan menggunakan software khusus yang disediakan oleh UPS atau dengan mengakses situs Web UPS. Untuk lebih meningkatkan penghematan biaya dan keamanan, driver dilatih untuk menggunakan “340 Metode” yang dikembangkan oleh para insinyur industri untuk mengoptimalkan kinerja dari setiap tugas mengangkat dan memuat kotak untuk memilih paket dari rak dalam truk.
e. Keunggulan kompetitif.
UPS memanfaatkan beberapa dekade keahlian mengelola jaringan pengiriman global sendiri untuk mengelola logistik dan pasokan kegiatan rantai untuk perusahaan lain. Supply Chain itu Solutions divisi menyediakan bundel lengkap layanan standar untuk berlangganan perusahaan di sebagian kecil dari apa yang akan biaya untuk membangun sistem mereka sendiri dan infrastruktur.
Dan yang akan terjadi jika sistem informasi tersebut tidak tersedia adalah mungkin saja UPS sebagai perusahaan jasa pengiriman paket menemui banyak kesulitan dalam memenuhi permintaan pelanggan. UPS juga belum tentu bertahan dan dapat bersaing secara efektif tanpa teknologi dengan perusahaan jasa pengiriman paket lainnya seperti FedEx dan Airbone Express. Jika teknologi tidak tersedia, maka UPS akan berusaha untuk memberikan informasi tersebut kepada pelanggan, tetapi pada harga yang lebih tinggi. Dari sudut pandang pelanggan, teknologi ini memberikan nilai karena mereka membantu pelanggan menyelesaikan tugas-tugas mereka agar lebih efisien. Pelanggan melihat teknologi UPS sebagai nilai tambah.
