The views of religion within the first handout offered a degree of harmful testimonies to Christianity in particular and religion in general. He wanted to modify Christianity in modern times, and make it once again comprehensible and convincing to every one of his generation and captivate the greatness of the word of Jesus Christ and to be taken once again as a serious religion. Schleiermacher understanding on religion bears a strong affinity and family resemblance too de Wette’s, “he wants to be historical, but faithful to the Christian faith.” Schleiermacher tests the extensive belief that religion was a combination of doctrines and actions, he rejects knowledge with religion explaining how religion can’t be combined with science or study. He views religion as involving the loss of your own self, so that the desire for immortal awareness within the traditional doctrine of immorality should be replaced with a better one. Schleiermacher views Jesus in Christianity as a temporary mediator and he rejects miracles.
