"Do you believe in goodness? In love?"

Love, goodness, happy ending, soulmates... These things are rhetorical and unsure.

We aren't sure if these things are real or something people created to have something to grasp on this dreary world we live in.

My answer is, you inquire? It's because I have to.

Yes, it is because I have to believe in these things. Not only I believe but I desperately want it to exist. To happen. To be real. To be true.

I need to have something to cling on that every bad thing that happened to me will be 'repayed' somehow or are mere trials for a better life.

I need something to hold on to. I believe because I wish and I hope.

Another thing, I guess love, goodness is so in demand because people hope that these things are not fake and that there more things in life than problems, wars, and the demons we face.

The people know, I know, that life is full of nightmares. It isn't a dream filled with prince charmings, pumpkin carriages, helping dwarves, talking furnitures and damsels in destress. Life is no perfectly designed Disney movie. But somewhere in the back of our mind we desperately want to have a fairy godmother sweep in our lives to flick her wand and mend the broken pieces inside of us even though we strictly are aware of the rules of life, no fun, no games, no joyful tricks. This is a one time somber show with no encores and confetti explosions.

That inkling of a bright future lies within the belief of love so maybe I don't have to believe... I'm not sure, to be frank. Life didn't come with instructions.

Every tear, every sweat and toil, every cut, every blood drop, every miserable thought, every heartbreak, every quicken of breath, every dejected feeling, every disappointment, every abandonment, maybe, just maybe will lead into something worth it one day and it will pay off. I need to put my hand on to that slight opening at the door so I can break out eventually and live. I need to know that after all I have been through, it'll be better one day and that it will give me a clearing why my life has been so messed up before.

I need to know. I need reasons.

I need hope.

Reviewing a Concert

...10 compositions preformed with an intermission in between. Some major compositions that were preformed included the hit songs “call me maybe” and “counting stars”. I was quite surprised when I initially saw the program and the songs listed, because it was hard for me to comprehend how a group with bells could produce songs that we are so accustomed to hearing on the radio. Once the concert got started, I enjoyed seeing how all the bells complimented one another by the different sounds they produced. The concert itself was quite entertaining to me. I was really impressed by how 14-year-old kids could play together and be so professional. Another thing I observed was how some of the members of the ensemble played multiple instruments, which was really impressive. From the start the members of the ensemble tried to get the audience involved in the performance. The director after the first couple of songs introduced the students individually. It was a nice way of getting to know the members of the ensemble on a personal level. It was hard to say any one member of the group stood out from the others because they all worked in sync but the one of the members David played multiple bells at the same time. The audience really seemed to enjoy the music, which was surprising to me. The crowd was older, and I initially thought they would not know many of the...

Time Check

...143993 Daniel Olivan EN12 (R70) March 27, 2015 Time Check July 21, 2014. It was another Monday and it was a school day. I woke up early and drove to Ateneo de Manila University where I took up chemistry with materials science engineering. It was my first year in college and the semester just started a month ago, so I was only beginning to get to know the people in my course. On that Monday, my first class was chemistry and good thing that it was only a 50-minute class. I cannot take in all the formulas that Dr. Valera just discussed. My stress level was already too high. It was 8:20 am. My blockmates, Mariel, Diego, and Magin wanted to eat first before their next classes start. They have class at 9:30 while my next one was at 10:30, so we all headed to JSEC which was a cafeteria. After choosing a table, I volunteered to reserve the table and keep guard of their bags while the three of them went to food stalls to order. I checked my phone and it was 8:30 already but still I see no sign of him. Magin was the first one who got back and sat down with his bacon and eggs with fried rice. I expected that he would have mentioned his name, but he didn’t. Instead, he talked about how difficult it was to remember all of the dates in our upcoming history exam next week. I agreed and started asking him what the coverage of the exam was, so that he wouldn’t notice that I wasn’t paying much attention to what he was saying. The truth was I just...

College Uniforms: A Fictional Narrative

...The bell that signaled the end of the day at Woodworth Boys College finally rang. Mark sighed with relief, brushing his long messy hair out of his eyes as he grabbed his books and his bag from his desk. Mark shook his head in annoyance as his hair once again fell onto his dark Pakistani face. His hair was unkempt and dirty, but it's not like his family could afford for him to get a haircut. No, all the money went into getting Mark the best education that his parents could provide. Provided they did, his parents worked overtime, balancing many jobs at once, the fees for Woodsworth College were definitely not cheap. It was by far the best school in Detroit, Mark's home town. He and his parents had lived here since Mark was five, his parents...

Twilight Dialectical Journal

...__________________________________________________________________________________ THE FOURTH DAY "THE GOLDEN OAK LIBRARY" (NON-TARGET) 6:48 AM "Well, maybe the fifth time's a charm?" Twilight teased while scraping Anonymous' previously failed breakfasts into the trashcan. "Cooking has been my mortal enemy for an eternity. Don't worry, I'll should be able to get at least one pancake this time." He said, adjusting the dial for the burner on Twilight's gas stove. Anonymous poured new batter in to the pan and sat it on the burner, adding the ingredients as he cooked. Twilight didn't say anything, she was just staring off into space. Anon looked back to investigate the cause of the silence, giggling when he saw Twi's face. "Have we really run out of things to talk about already?" Anon asked, laughing while doing so. Twilight's blank face snapped to attention. Then immediatly went back to her blank face while she thought. Most of the time they had spent together was in silence, as is they were total strangers. In a way, they were. They had just met yesterday and didn't know that much about each other. "No... It's just..." Twilight tried to explain her train of thought. "Eh, It's alright, don't feel like you're a bad friend." 'Friend' The skeptical antisocial alien called Twilight, The Element of Friendship a friend before she called him one. Now she really didn't feel like a good 'friend'. Judging by Anon's face, he didn't care about it at all. He was too busy reading the instructions...

Liberty Bell

...Sound of the Freedom- The Liberty Bell Figure 1 Liberty Bell Forever Stamp Figure 1 Liberty Bell Forever Stamp Meaning can be found even in the most mundane of objects. For instance, consider the USA First Class stamp. On its upper left corner, the number 2008 shows that this stamp was produced in year 2008. The right side of the stamp says “USA FIRST-CLASSS FOREVER”, meaning that this postage stamp is valid for First-Class postage in the United States no matter when it is used. There is an extraordinary metal bell is in the middle of the stamp – the Liberty Bell, a venerable historic relic that I am going to analyze in the rest of this research paper. The bell was first known by the world as a metal musical instrument in ancient China. Tuned bells in that age were created and played to be performed only for imperial families and noblemen, as a symbol of power and status. Later on, bells became widely used in different religions. For example, bells played an important role in the Eastern world of Buddhism and Hinduism as temple bells. In western world, bells were commonly used as church bells or town bells for gathering people together. In 1752, the Quaker William Penn, legislator and founder of the Pennsylvania colony in 1682, had decided and commissioned the bell to be cast in London, and brought to North America to hang in the State House of the colony of Pennsylvania. “They had ordered very precisely...

He Was Dead

...I was so pleased for the opportunity I had been offered of the schools principal! He took a look at my grades and he was rapidly in dialogue with my parents about school stuff. I thought that this would be my final opportunity to show who I really am. Something I wasn`t able to at my former school. So this would be my second chance and I was so excited! Before my first day at the new school I started getting a little nervous. A bit like performance anxiety when an actor is on stage for the first time. But unfortunately I never managed to control my anxiety. The thoughts about my new classmates were killing me! How were they like? Were they going to accept me for who I am? What if no one would talk to me? So many thoughts about my upcoming “new life”. I was so excited but at the same time so frightened. It was 7 o’ clock in the morning. My dad entered my room and did a great scene when he dropped the tray with bread and some freshly squeezed juice. I hoped this would be the first of many laughs that day! After my dads accident I took some of my favourite clothes on, so I would look presentable at my first day in “my new life”. When I was fairly pleased with the choice of my outfit I asked my dad to hurry up. He was incredibly slow when it came to getting ready in the morning. It was like he didn’t understand the concern for my first day at the new school. I knocked severely on the door and yelled loudly: “daddy! Why are you so slow?” He answered: “honey just mind your...

Personal Narrative: Tommy In Football

...The starting bell had sound for recess and the day marked half way over, I was almost there, just four more hours tell I was home in my bed. It was a hot Texas summer day and the heat had seemed to get to peoples heads causing all to be in a foul mood. A particular student who I will not refer to his real name but will call him tommy instead, had been extremely hostile and abusive. Problems with Tommy had lasted all year long and today was one day too many. Tommy enjoyed disrupting our football game that we enjoyed playing so much since it was one of the few times we could all be together. He would rush the field, intercept the ball and run to the other side of the playground forcing us to chase him to retrieve the ball. When we would attempt...

Personal Narrative Essay

...It looked like it was going to be a quiet day, and Juliet felt grateful for the reprieve from students constantly interrupting her work to incessantly pester her and ask questions. It wasn't that she was unsocial, but after a long week of classes, and a healthy dose of her newly hellacious personal life, she couldn't say she didn't appreciate the silence. With a brief nod to the director of the University's library she eased her coat off to drop haphazardly on the chair she would be using for the evening behind the front desk. There was still another hour or so before her coworkers left and she would be alone for the closing shift, so with an easy shift of her attentions she moved the large assortment of returned books onto a dolly to reshelve. This was her favorite part about this job, despite how tedious it may seem, the quiet stillness of the library during lunch hour and taking advantage of it to wander through the stacks and methodically put things away? There was a system behind it. Order to it. It allowed her to just get a little lost in the mundane quiet activity and let her mind take it as a few moments of silence where she didn't have to be scrambling to control what was going on around her. She paused around some abandoned tables, collecting up reference materials that had been discarded and left behind by careless students. Juliet quietly wheeled the cart through the aisles, putting away the books that went on the first floor quietly. As she tucked a stray strand...

Diversity

...I could hear my heart pounding in my chest as I walked into the silent room. As I looked around, I saw classmates chattering, studying, or even sleeping. DING! The bell echoed through the empty hallways as my classmates sat down in their assigned seats. When I sat down my hands shook and I started studying as quickly as I could. Suddenly, a hand shut my binder and I looked up to see my American friend. She had a goofy grin on her face as she said, "Stephanie, please... you're Asian. You're probably gonna get an A again." As I looked at her blankly, unanswered questions quickly filed my head. Am I really ready? Will I get an A on this test? Did I study enough? I quickly mumbled, "Sure" and took my binder out from under her hand. Ten minutes passed and the teacher started passing out the test. I had to get a 100% on this test. Everyone had always expected me to do well on everything. This incident has reminded me that even though our society has greatly improved in terms of equality for all, we still have work to do. Dr. King's dream of equality has been the goal our society has wanted to achieve since his death in 1968. Since then, our society has grown from a deprived nation that only looks at one's skin to a nation where everyone has an equal chance at everything. Although we have improved greatly, there is still one thing that blocks our path to fully reaching Dr. King's dream- stereotypes. Stereotypes are false generalizations about different groups of people. Over generations...
