Different institutions in society work differently to keep society running, if one or more of these institutions fail then in my opinion it will form a domino effect, one cannot function properly if the other is failing, however I think institutions are failing even more in today’s society,
Families: the institution of family’s job is to socialise children, give them the right norms and values, and by this I mean teach them what is right and wrong in society. There isn’t much research on this on the internet so I shall say my own view; SOME families are not teaching their children the right norms and values like for example manners, this makes them deviant and makes it harder for other institutions to do their job, like RELIGION; families are less traditional so are not socialising their children to be religious like they used to so there is fewer religious followers especially from this generation therefor it is almost impossible for religion to perform the job of its institution. Going back to the families not socialising their children properly this affects the community negatively because people don’t have a sense of togetherness so arguments will break out and in my view the role of the community is to prevent these arguments keep a sense of social solidarity, but if everyone is fighting and disagreeing due to the unsocialised children then they are not able to perform the role of their institution. The role of education is to provide socialisation for the rest of society like workplaces for example and if families failed primary socialisation it makes it really difficult if not impossible to perform their part of socialisation, and finally MEDIA which doesn’t connect with the other institutions as much but when it fails it does affect society just as much, the role of the media is to educate people on current affairs in the country/world, but in fact doesn’t do that in my opinion they show one side of the affair and that is their interpretation or their biasness, in my opinion a lot of the media, targets all muslims and makes out that theyre all bad, but when it comes to Christians nothing bad is ever in the news so we are only seeing one side of each; the good of Christianity and the bad of muslims, the media exploits all muslims because they assume isis is all muslims but don’t exploit Christians because of ku klux klan, so the media is very biased, social media is also classed as an institution, and again the role is to show people what is going on in society but actually shows people what they should be doing what they should look like etc so media is already failing.

In conclusion a lot of institutions are failing due to societys expectations and the changes in society, and I think we need to change our norms and values due to the drastic differences from now and say years ago, then these institutions may not be seen as ‘failing’ anymore.
