House No. 10, Pensionpara Road, Goswami Service, Guwahati -781003, Assam, India Date: 15-01-2014 Selection Committee, RWTH International Academy GmbH Templergraben 55 52062 Aachen, Germany Dear Sir/ Ma’am: I hope you will consider me as a strong applicant for the Masters programme in “Computer-Aided Conception and Production in Mechanical Engineering” with particular interest in mechanics and design with respect to Automobile Design which is scheduled in Winter 2014 which I identified on your website. It would be of immense pride for me to join such a program. I graduated in 2013 with a Bachelors of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with First Class (Honours), from Royal School of Engineering & Technology, India affiliated to Gauhati University, India. I was ranked among the top five percent with a score of 78.56%. My goal is to be a foremost professional with expertise in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Production and Process Design. My undergraduate studies of engineering mechanics, strength of material, design of machine materials & components, mechanics of material, numerical methods and manufacturing & workshop technology had exposed me to the reality and demand of my choice of career and have provided me with the rudiment, which I am optimistic this programme would enhance in achieving my goal. Moreover my undergraduate study has given me a comprehensive exposure to a wide spectrum of courses, namely, Theory of Machines, Engineering Graphics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Computer aided Design/Computer aided Manufacturing, etc. As a beginner I was completely enthused by the innate concepts of production engineering. This enthusiasm for the subject went on to make me the top scorer in the University in some of those subjects. I have undertaken two projects viz. “Analytical Study of a Steam Condenser” and “Analysis & Fabrication of a Simple Car” in final year of my Bachelor’s Degree. I as a project leader for the above projects and I learned the practical difficulties in implementing the task, with the help of limited resources available. With guidance of technical expertise from my college I successfully completed them in time. During the project work for “Analytical Study of a Steam Condenser”, I developed a code using C language which was used to check the results with theoretical values. Once I found that they were in good agreement with each other, I had used the code for further investigations to know the relations between various parameters of a steam condenser. Again for my second project viz. “Analysis & Fabrication of a Simple Car”, applying the knowledge of mechanics and computer aided drawing I designed an engine powered single seater four wheeled car. Design parameters such as Stress and load analysis using theoretical process as well as computational methods such as AutoCAD and CATIA was carried out during the project. After analysis, the design was found safe and then fabrication and assembly was carried out. To undertake those tasks successfully one must be well familiar with computational design and numerical analysis. Besides my strong academic performance, I also demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills. These skills were established when I became the main member who convened an international workshop on ‘International Workshop on Wind Disaster Problems – Challenge Ahead’. This international program convened approximately 500 under graduate students from around the country to attend the workshop. Moreover we had reputed experts in this field from India and abroad to attend the workshop and share their views. I was involved in designing and execution of the all the phases of the workshop which revealed my energy and enthusiasm for any work entrusted. Moreover I was elected as the Student Coordinator for Training & Placement Cell, Royal School of Engineering & Technology, Assam, India. The way in which I managed my studies as well as the process of placements for approximately 200 students in my engineering final year was well acclaimed by the faculty members.

During, my first and current job at Kamrup Chemical Industries, Assam, India I was exposed to the designing of maintenance strategies & procedures and planning & scheduling of planed & unplanned works. I was specialized in monitoring and controlling maintenance costs and dealing with emergency and unplanned problems and repairs. The company management was particularly appreciative of my efforts to minimize the break downs with new and innovative approaches. This shows my enthusiasm, energy and discipline towards my assigned duties and tasks. Since Germany has a reputation of ushering international students with a lot of warmth as understood from past records therefore I have chosen RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany as my university for the master program. Also I believe I would gain a lot of insight on my related subject from this University. The choice of a good university with a faculty dedicated to teaching and research and an atmosphere conducive to learning, thus becomes extremely necessary. After going through your website I found that by taking graduate studies at your university, I would be able to venture out into various subject domains and also develop a strong sense of independence coupled with responsibility and self-reliance, characteristic of the German culture. It would also help me to learn global standards in this field and become aware of the worldwide competition, which I consider would be a great help for me to make a strong contribution in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Your university with its unique graduate program in “Computer-Aided Conception and Production in Mechanical Engineering” and with its commitment to foster intellectual excellence is remarkable and attractive to embark upon an academic or professional career. Again, my Facebook friends and its groups viz. “MS in Germany 2012”, “MS in Germany Summer & Winter 2014” are helping me to become familiar with the expenses to be considered in Aachen, Germany while studying. Moreover, I will be enrolling myself into learning the German language. This I believe will help me also to appear for the German language test as well as in socializing with the German culture and community. Given an opportunity, I shall strive to channel my unbridled efforts into the program. I would make a creditable student due to my inquisitiveness to acquire in-depth knowledge of various subjects and to improve my skills. It would be a great pleasure and honour for me if given a chance to ensue my postgraduate studies with the help of your program. I am sure that my aptitude and drive will see me through the challenges and keep to your expectation. I look forward to your acceptance. Thanking you in anticipation. Sincerely yours,
