Southwest Airline organizational paper

In January 2013, Southwest unveiled a new corporate vision statement with the intention to motivate employees. Southwest Airlines has two mission statements

“The Mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of customer service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and company spirit.”

“We are committed to providing our employees a stable work environment with equal opportunity for learning and personal growth. Creativity and innovation are encouraged for improving the effectiveness of Southwest Airlines. Above all, employees will be provided the same concern, respect, and caring attitude within the organization that they are expected to share externally with every Southwest customer.”

Southwest Airline believes that customers are their top priority. They do not only value their customers but also employees in the same aspects. They take pride in their employees and customer care. Southwest airline is different from other companies because of the reputation for their customer service and a fun/happy working environment. Southwest is holding themselves accountable to fulfill their mission statements. Their post reports outlining their promise to customer service, safety and emergency backup plan on to their website. In order for the vision statement to work, they are using the method of storytelling to encourage their employees to follow the vision every day so they won’t forget what the purpose of the mission statement is.

According to the airline Chief Communication Office, their culture is defined by three values which are “a warrior spirit”, “a servant’s heart”, “and a fun-luving attitude”(Ken Makovsky).
