Argument for REPEAL According to Graciela Elizabeth Geyer, the Student of Color Campus Diversity Project director for the United States Student Association (USSA), enrolling a diverse class is made up of three steps: 1. Getting a diverse applicant pool 2. Accepting a diverse class 3. Getting those students who have been accepted to enroll. Eliminating affirmative action with the introduction of SP1 and SP2 has negatively impacted all three of these rates. The repeal of these policies was increasingly important to the regents because on top of the significant drop in the acceptance rate of minorities, accepted students of color were choosing to enroll into the UC system at lower rates as well. In California, affirmative action programs have resulted in doubling or tripling the number of minority applications to higher education, making these institution more representative of their surrounding community. For example, after California removed its affirmative action programs, the minority student admissions at UC Berkeley fell 61 percent while minority admissions at UCLA fell 36 percent. With evidence indicating a less diverse applicant pool and declining rates of enrollment, …show more content…
For example, many argue that use of the SAT is an example of discriminatory admissions policies. This argument stems from racial/socio-economic disadvantages involved in accessing the SATs and lack of available resources in preparing for the SATs. For example, Los Angeles High School and Beverly Hills High School, two public schools in the same city, offer drastically different resources to their students in regards to college preparation. Beverly Hills, an affluent neighborhood, offers ample resources for college preparation while Los Angeles is quite the

Breastfeeding Vs Bottle Feeding

...Introduction All over the world, soon-to-be mothers are asking themselves the same question: should I breast feed or bottle-feed my child? Opinions on the matter vary all around the world depending on things like one’s culture, values, and location. Mothers can be judged for choosing to do either. While some people remain skeptical, there is evidence that supports that...

Diaz ISSC363 Dr. Tannoury December 28th, 2013 Diaz 2 Technology refers to, the making, usage, modification, and size of machines, tools, methods applied by an order when dealing with problems. It also applies to methods applied when improving an already existing solution and when performing a duty or achieving a goal. The superficial IT evolution can be said to be preceded by hand and print revolutions. All the things that one can now handle within a short spun of time just by the click of a button is quite different from the past. Systems like phones, computers and other electronic devices can carry out a bunch of work just by the click of the correct button within a minimum duration unlike in the past. The Internet, televisions, and cell phones are enlightening socialization by making both positive and negative impacts on the lives of children. Internet is the first group having enormous influence in technology. It has changed how people communicate, when they talk, where they relate from and the frequency at which they do so. The Internet allows for globalization, interconnection and sharing of information. It has made the...
