Our SPED 3350 class recently had the opportunity to interview Carol Garton, an accomplished teacher with a unique insight and a firsthand knowledge about special education. The students in our class were not only challenged to carefully consider our future roles as educators, but encouraged to do so in a manner that was reflective and inclusive of those student with learning disabilities and special needs.
One of the key points that Carol made repeatedly was for the necessity of collaboration between the general ed. teacher and the special ed. teacher. Additionally, it is vitally important to have different plans drawn up in order to effectively educate and meet the needs of special education students. One such plan is a behavioral plan, which should always include a section on how to prevent the behavior as well as how to deescalate a situation that may arise with a particular student. Usually, a special ed. teacher will communicate these things with the general ed. teacher, and may choose to put more severe problems in writing as well.
The general ed. teacher should always be proactive in engaging the special ed. teacher and attending any IEP’s that the student might have. An IEP is not only effective in creating an educational plan, but allows the general ed. teacher to hear from the …show more content…
Special education students are not any “less” of a student then the others; they just have specific needs that must be identified, addressed and carefully considered due to their specific situation. In doing so, the teacher is not only placing a high value on education for those in the general ed. class, but is valuing every student as important regardless of what their disability or need might

The NAIP was implemented in four districts of southern Rajasthan state viz., Banswara, Dungarpur, Sirohi and Udaipur. Two clusters of Dungarpur district were selected for the present study. These were (a) Faloj and (b) Bichhiwara. Total 10 villages out of 15 villages (under NAIP) were selected proportionately on random basis for inclusion in the study. Total size of sample was of 104 respondents. It was found that 95 (91.35 per cent) of the farmers were of their face values expressing strengths of NAIP with moderate extent. Negligible respondents 5 (4.81 per cent) and 4 (3.84 per cent) could be observed falling under high and low strengths of NAIP respectively.
