...Ireland commitment to tackle Climate change doesn’t just happen in Ireland. To follow up on what Aaron said Ireland has done plenty to help those in the Developing world tackle climate change. Our overwhelming support to the developing world illustrates the fact that Ireland knows climate change is massively exacerbated in the developing world. No matter how much we make Ireland echo friendly it cannot compete with other countries on the Co2 emission scale, as it is a small country. But we have a duty to set an example for other countries that have a massive impact on climate change. Not only that, but most importantly we must help developing countries who cannot prevent themselves from having a big impact on climate change. Deforestation is a contributor to climate change and is often cited as one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect. Tropical deforestation is responsible for approximately 20% of world greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change deforestation, mainly in tropical areas, could account for up to one-third of total anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Out the top 10 most endangered forests, characterized by having all lost 90% or more of their original habitat, 3 are in developing areas of Africa, another 3 are in developing areas in south east Asia and The Atlantic forest is located along Brazil's Atlantic coast, extends to parts of Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay. Overpopulation is the main reasons...

...窗体顶端 窗体底端 The global warming speech you will find below discusses a topic close to the hearts of many of us. In fact, it's a topic that is likely to remain current until measures designed to protect the environment are seen to be having a positive impact. Beginning of Global Warming Speech "That so many of us are here today is a recognition that the threat from climate change is serious, it is urgent, and it is growing. Our generation's response to this challenge will be judged by history, for if we fail to meet it - boldly, swiftly, and together - we risk consigning future generations to an irreversible catastrophe." These are the words President Obama used to begin his global warming speech before the United Nations Summit in 2009. Search Google for global warming and you will get almost 65 million pages of results. The subject has certainly drawn a lot of attention. But just what is global warming? What is causing it? What effects does it have on the earth and its inhabitants? What are some possible solutions? These are the questions that I will be addressing in this short, informative speech today. What is Global Warming? Global warming is the gradual increase of the temperature of earth's atmosphere and oceans. Over the past century the average temperatures have gone up by just over one degree. This may not seem like much, but many scientists agree that the earth's temperatures are starting to increase at a faster rate. What Causes It? Global warming...

...Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Book Report By: Matthew R. King International Management 04/11/16 After carefully reading Hot, Flat, and Crowded; I was able to form a relationship with the author Thomas Friedman. Hot, Flat, and Crowded speaks directly with the reader about issues going on in our world. Global warming is a major issues that Freidman presents, and he presents actions on what we should do as a civilization to counter the affects of global warming. Hot, Flat, and Crowded is all about creating a more sustainable world to live in, but too many people, organizations, and businesses are not taking the appropriate time to follow the actions that Freidman suggests. We have to change the way we operate as people and as businesses, because we are harming our environment our ecosystem cannot keep up physically with the way we are living. Also some adverse effects are adding to the destroying of our environment, ozone layers, and our ecosystems. The energy we use everyday is growing at a significantly higher rate every year, and our ecosystem cannot keep up with our usage. “Planet's surface temperature may warm up in response to a doubling of carbon dioxide -- a byproduct of fossil fuel burning -- they typically predict a rise of between 2.1 and 4.7 degrees Celsius.” Earth could become hotter than thought, study warns. (n.d.). The use of more and more energy is producing twice as much carbon dioxide emissions to be released and it’s beginning to pollute the atmosphere at a...

...Evan Mossman Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize Lecture has several important purposes. His primary purpose is to convince us through scientific evidence that climate change is caused by human influences, that it is deadly and real, and that we must act swiftly to fix the problem. Gore begins his speech by mentioning the fact that he has a purpose, but he doesn’t immediately tell us what that purpose is. He says that “I pray what I am feeling in my heart will be communicated clearly enough that those who hear me will say, “We must act””, but he hasn’t yet told us what it is we must do. He tells us that “The distinguished scientists with whom it is the greatest honor of my life to share this award have laid before us a choice between two different futures.” Gore makes the claim that these scientists are the ones who have such strong opinions on this topic. His job is simply to make their opinions well known. After introducing climate change and giving plenty of scientific evidence that this problem exists, he reveals the second part of his speech’s purpose: “We must quickly mobilize our civilization with the urgency and resolve that has previously been seen only when nations mobilized for war.” He wants us to accept the need to fix this problem now. In order to motivate us towards change, he hopes that his speech will release “a mighty surge of courage, hope, and readiness to sacrifice for a protracted and mortal struggle.” An additional and important message Gore conveys is an argument...

...That quote is from the year 1908, in that year Teddy gave a speech much like the letter your are reading at this very moment. I imagine you are wondering who I am. Well, I am Dr. Schoenborn, I am from Brazil and I study the effects of climate change in the Tropical Rainforest. Currently the Rainforest biome is experiencing the effects of climate change, but it is on the breaking point of a real hell on Earth. If we allow the wasteful and careless methods of today to continue...and get out of hand. The Rainforest could, and shall experience major heat waves, deforestation, extreme storms, and various other problems. Based upon the past and present, a proposal that uses congressional funds to alleviate the effects of climate change in the Tropical...

...Where is the Earth heading? Albert Gore's speech "Global climate change: Protecting the environment" is a very inspiring essay not just because global warming is a big discussed issue these days but also because it's one of the biggest problems. Some examples of worsening condition are the higher and higher temperatures all over the world, the poisoning of the water and air on the Earth, and another one “the unprecedented loss of living species at a rate that has not taken place on this planet since the disappearance of the dinosaurs so many tens of millions of years ago” (Gore). This is very shocking and unimaginable because without animals we neither the Earth won't be able to survive. Al Gore was preparing this speech very much, since he thought through the details about where it would take it's place or to what will make him look convincing and more trustworthy for his audience. He chose to preform it in Washington DC “at a first green university”, and he begins with thanking all the significant people who are there listening to him. Even through there is more young adults than “high positioned" people listening to his speech, there is at that moment most of our “next generation” science students that he wanted to inspire from beginning of their careers. Through his speech, he mentions that “soon 120 countries will have a meeting in Berlin” (Gore) where he will show that other countries are starting to deal with this problem all over the world too. A rhetorical situation...

...ANALYZING MY SPEECH According with a record to my speech, I found a lot of mistakes and errors when I´m talking English, so it’s difficult to organize all of ideas, find the correct form to tell it and use the correct words to communicate properly, but when you checked and know the errors you could recognize that ‘the second-language acquisition is concerned with the internal representations of a language in the mind of the learner, and in how those representations change over time’ (Rod Ellis, 2003). Firstly, there are a lot of errors as misinformation, omission, overgeneralization and transfer errors, in this recorder you can find someone, for example the second language learner was talking about the climate changes in the town the last days, then she said “I don’t watch this climate here” (Recorder 2), the sentence could be a misinformation error because these errors can use one grammatical form in place of another grammatical form, even if this sentence is already said correctly, it’s unsuitable for the context which the learner’s answer was talking, it could be in past tense “I hadn’t seen this kind of climate here”. Another error with this topic, it is when beginner said “when the old woman do tortillas, she turn on the fire and so with this the air is contaminated”, beginner is making a lot of errors as omission because she is leaving out an item that is required for an utterance to be considered grammatical such as “the old woman do tortillas” and “she turn on the...

...warming is among us and climate change is affecting the earth in a negative pattern. What many people are unsure about in regards to climate change include where it comes from, what the major implications could be if global warming is not addressed, as well as what we as humans living on planet earth can do to aide in creating a sustainable future. Through this article, with the help of experts, we will address all of these areas involved with today’s climate change. It is hard to pin point one exact cause for climate change because in reality there are many things that contribute to it. Al Gore points out in his speech that the burning of fossil fuels, namely coal, is the main reason that we are observing global warming. (Gore, 2009) According to the EPA, the electricity we create today by burning these fossil fuels accounted for thirty-two percent of greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. Although burning coal and fossil fuels is the number one source of greenhouse gas emissions, a surprising factor to climate change is the fact that agriculture makes up for nearly ten percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Agricultural emissions come from sources such as agricultural soils, rice production, as well as livestock, such as cows. (Environmental Protection Agency, 2012) Environmental author Anna Lappé also notes agriculture as being a large source of the greenhouse gas emissions weakening our planets health. Lappé explains how agriculture is affecting climate change and why it is becoming...

In Beirut, in the few next years we will not have any trees and green planets. The climate will be changing. In the North and Antarctica, the ice will melt and rise the level of the sea, which is caused from the change of temperatures. Also, global warming has many causes, who can destroy the green world. All its causes and effects should be studied in science, and by scientific to come with some result and solutions to solve this fact.Barak Obama said;” All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster.”( BARACK OBAMA, speech, Apr. 3, 2006). Global warming is a serious problem and should be addressed immediately. Pollution is the first cause of global...

...Small Island Developing States Speech – St. Lucia’s Prime Minister as CARICOM Representative Written By Ms. Ingrid Baker: 620042573 (Advisor to Hon. Dr. Kenny and Dr. Anthony) For The Hon. Dr. Kenny (Prime Minister of St. Lucia) Head of Delegation Topic: The Opportunities and challenges for development now being posed to small state economies in light of the implications of climate change. Excellences, Mr. Secretary-General, distinguished ladies and gentlemen; I have the distinct honour to deliver this presentation on behalf of the 15 member states of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM. Now, this comes at a critical juncture for all Small Island Developing States. When, more than ever, critical leadership is required. As we already know, we face the same realities in "the Caribbean where we live," and we endure this reality through the threat produced on our islands by climate change. Climate is existential within the Caribbean, and is very badly affected by rising sea levels, but not that only, since we also need to think of things like the acidification of the oceans, the effects that this has on fish stocks and what this means for food security. Projections show that this warming that is taking place, will be accompanied by an increase in heavy rainfall events and other temporal and spatial changes in precipitation patterns, and by more intense or frequent cyclones/hurricanes. Agricultural land, water resources and biodiversity are already under pressure from increases...

...Analysis of the Ted.com The speaker: Rob Dunbar The title of the talk: Discovering ancient climate in oceans and ice The theme of the speech is ecological problems of the ocean warming and acidification. The genre of rhetoric is academic performance at the conference. The speaker reveals new scientific facts and the experiment results to form a different point of view on the global ecological problems of the ocean. The aim of the performance is to persuade the audience that ocean acidification is much more important than the global warming, which took place on Earth several times. The main persuasive instrument is logical proof, though the speaker combines both rational and emotional argumentation. The arguments had been thoroughly chosen in advance according to the principle of the qualitative approach to the argument selection. Moreover, they are put in Homer’s order «strong – weak – the strongest», which efficiency is based on the psychological «edge effect» of memory. The speech is classically composed and consists of three parts: introduction, main part and conclusion. The introductory part is worth more attention. Evidently, the speaker had spent lots of time choosing the right words to say and there had been many options of the probable introduction. And the necessary aims had been achieved: he managed to draw people’s attention to the problem, to break the ice and to inspire confidence in his report. There is no greeting and the speaker takes the bull by the...

...wrong on climate Change Although the argument has changed over the last 20 years from global warming to climate change, the one thing that has been consistent over time has been on the science aspect of it. This year, Donald Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, in which over 170 countries pledged their commitment to cutting carbon emissions. In his announcement, President Trump shifted the discussion away from the science of fossil fuel’s effect on the environment toward economics: “The Paris climate accord disadvantages the United States, to the exclusive benefit of other countries, leaving American workers, who I love, and taxpayers to absorb the cost in terms of lost jobs, lower wages, shuttered factories and...

...Arnold Schwarzenegger is a renowned person who is regarded as a famous actor, politician and most importantly, an ecologist who concerns about climate change. He is a fervent supporter of environmental protection who makes a genuine effort to fight against global warming. Arnold has voiced his worries over the changing climatic pattern in the world as it will cause different disasters including droughts and floods, which put our citizens’ lives and different economic activities in jeopardy. He, therefore, took the lead to sign the first state law limiting the level of greenhouse gases emission when he was a governor of California. He mentioned in his speech, “The UN can’t work alone, but together, we can!” (R20 regions of climate change, 2013). This is his way to persuade people to take actions together so that a bigger effectiveness can be achieved. He also convinces all people to take action because he thinks that climate change is caused by human activities to a certain extent. Therefore, all people in the world are obliged to protect the earth to prevent the problem from deteriorating and to compensate for what they have done. In addition, he cooperated with different local governments around the world by organizing a non-profit organization R2O which aims to carry out funding projects such as renewable energy projects to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. He believed that this can improve the energy efficiency of the world and it is a...

...A nor’easter that swooped through the Northeast hindered recovery efforts, knocking out power for tens of thousands more people. The power outages and destruction have shorted fuel supplies, forcing New York City to begin rationing gasoline Friday for the first time since the 1970s. Green groups and Capitol Hill lawmakers have warned events like Sandy might become more common if climate change goes unaddressed. Though climate scientists have been reluctant to say climate change caused Sandy, they contend it exacerbated the storm. Rising sea levels and warmer ocean temperatures likely added to Sandy’s intensity, they say. Democratic leaders want to explore that link. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the ranking member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), the ranking member on the committee’s Energy and Power subcommittee, have called for a lame-duck hearing on climate change and Sandy. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Wednesday that he wants to press the issue next Congress. Green groups also plan to pressure Congress and President Obama on climate change, saying Sandy has changed the calculus on the...
