Speechless Kiss Sound And Silence

According to Barsam and Monahan, silence can also be used as a form of sound. “When so used, silence frustrates our normal perceptions.” (para. 3, 383). Jean-Pierre Jeunet used silence as a way to make the “Speechless Kiss” scene more profound and poetic. The scene begins with Nino entering Amelie’s apartment. The only diegetic sounds are their footsteps and their respiration. The silence is then interrupted with a loud noise occurring from the closure of the front door. “With carefully interplay between sound and silence, a filmmaker can produce a new rhythm for the film” (para. 3, 383). Silence speaks louder than words and this unique scene represents that both have gained the courage to be together despite not speaking to each other. Silence …show more content…
Gustave. Through sound, the audience can also understand his weaknesses and how he avoids confronting major problems. In the scene named “The Police Are Here”, M. Gustave and Zero Mustafa are having a private conversation in which they discuss how to proceed and react to the case of the painting being stolen. Three seconds later, another employer appears and mentioning that the police is looking for M. Gustave. The only sound that the audience can hear after the quote: “The police are here”, is five seconds of silence. This silence indicates hidden fear that both Zero Mustafa and M. Gustave face when imagining the worst possible outcome. However, M. Gustave hides his fright by calmly answering back to his employer. The only diegetic element in this part of the scene is the dialogue between them. Once the employer leaves, in less than a second, the audience can hear the sound of the feet getting off of the wooden chair. Actions are quicker and sounds are consequently louder. For instance, the audience can perceive an on-screen element of curtains being opened with force. The dialogue between both characters is quicker and more high pitched than before. Consequently, the tempo of the music “The Lutz Police Militia”, becomes lively and very quick. The interpretive is expressive and energetic. When both characters speak to approach the police, there is a diegetic heavy breathe coming from the main officer indicating the audience that the characters are confronting a difficult situation. The tempo of the music continues to go in crescendo while there is dialogue between the characters in the shot. Despite portraying himself as a confident and formidable man, M. Gustave shows fear with the sound of quick inhalation and exhalation followed by the sound of his body running through the hallway to avoid being arrested by the

...Babylonian Creation Myth (summary) The Babylonian creation myth is recounted in the "Epic of Creation" also known as the Enûma Elish. The Mesopotamian "Epic of Creation" dates to the late second millennium B.C.E. In the poem, the god Marduk (or Assur in the Assyrian versions of the poem) is created to defend the divine beings from an attack plotted by the ocean goddess Tiamat. The hero Marduk offers to save the gods only if he is appointed their supreme unquestioned leader and is allowed to remain so even after the threat passes. The gods agree to Marduk's terms. Marduk challenges Tiamat to combat and destroys her. He then rips her corpse into two halves with which he fashions the earth and the skies. Marduk then creates the calendar, organizes the planets, stars and regulates the moon, sun, and weather. The gods pledge their allegiance to Marduk and he creates Babylon as the terrestrial counterpart to the realm of the gods. Marduk then destroys Tiamat's husband, Kingu using his blood to create humankind so that they can do the work of the gods. ...Gitanjali (Song offerings) by Rabindranath Tagore Formatted for Rocket eBook by: Kirby A. Heintzelman - June, 2000 Rabindranath Tagore(1861--1941), was the first non-White to receive Nobel prize (1913) for Literature. The event of course caused some furor at the time. New York Times in its prodigious generosity consoled its readers by alluding to the fact that after all Tagore was of Aryan Stock. It was first published in 1913 as a collection of prose translations made by the author from the original Bengali (a language of India) Poems. Evidence does indicate that the poet W.B. Yeats had a hand in editing and publishing it! GITANJALI 1 Thou hast made me endless, such is thy pleasure. This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life. This little flute of a reed thou hast carried over hills and dales, and hast breathed through it melodies eternally new. At the immortal touch of thy hands my little heart loses its limits in joy and gives birth to utterance ineffable. Thy infinite gifts come to me only on these very small hands of mine. Ages pass, and still thou pourest, and still there is room to fill. 2 When thou commandest me to sing it seems that my heart would break with pride; and I look to thy face, and tears come to my eyes. All that is harsh and dissonant in my life melts into one sweet harmony---and my adoration spreads wings like a glad bird on its flight across the sea. I know thou takest pleasure in my singing. I know that only...

...Lovers Or Friends “Wake up Eric time to go to school its your first day, don't want you to be late on your first day of school” Eric mom yelled. “Coming mom” said Eric, “Wait one second and let me put on my shirt” Eric added. The bus pulled up in front of the white picket fence house and Eric is still not ready so he grabs his comb, brush, and his book bag and rush onto the bus. Everyone on the bus starred at Eric as he walked up the three black and dirty stairs. “C'mon boy sit down so we can leave to head to school” the rude bus driver said. Eric didn't know who to sit by because he was new to the school and obviously he thinks no one is going to talk to the new kid. He walked down the hallway as these two light skin boys both wearing fitted jeans and an Hollister shirt one was wearing green and the other wearing a bright yellow color and both wearing all white jordans looking like a pack of sour skittles. As he passed them 1 they started laughing hysterically, as Eric looked at them with a little smirk on his face, one of the boys says to Eric “what are you wearing, them bad ahh reebok and them bad ahh cargos, school Boy”! Illumine Book One: Rio by supacat Armand has gone into the sun, which means that I have a story to tell. You may blame Lestat. If you have not read the preceding Vampire Chronicles: experto credite. Armand's first words to me were, "I suppose you too are going to write a novel." My name is David Talbot. I was seventy four years old when I became a vampire, but circumstances, Lestat and a psychic accident deposited me into the body of a much younger man. As a result, I am six feet two inches tall and look approximately twenty six years of age. I am also the former Superior General of the Talamasca, though my current situation has reduced that fact to little more than trivia. I have never been able to discover the identity of the man whose body I inhabit. Oddly, however, it is not a mystery that bothers me. Occasionally I look into a mirror and wonder, but that is all. Once, at the beginning of this whole adventure, I told Lestat that I was grateful for the Dark Gift. "It took you two hundred years to learn that you wanted it," I said to him. "I knew the moment I woke out of the stupor. I knew with every breath I took and with every new colour and shape I saw." I was looking with vampire eyes, as he calls it. I was enamoured with the night, and excited by the prospect of eternal life. I am learning that these emotions are not easily sustained. Not after killing a mortal every...

Maison Tellier

...Guy de Maupassant Maison Tellier They went there every evening about eleven o'clock, just as they would go to the club. Six or eight of them; always the same set, not fast men, but respectable tradesmen, and young men in government or some other employ, and they would drink their Chartreuse, and laugh with the girls, or else talk seriously with Madame Tellier, whom everybody respected, and then they would go home at twelve o'clock! The younger men would sometimes stay later.      It was a small, comfortable house painted yellow, at the corner of a street behind Saint Etienne's Church, and from the windows one could see the docks full of ships being unloaded, the big salt marsh, and, rising beyond it, the Virgin's Hill with its old gray chapel.      Madame Tellier, who came of a respectable family of peasant proprietors in the Department of the Eure, had taken up her profession, just as she would have become a milliner or dressmaker. The prejudice which is so violent and deeply rooted in large towns, does not exist in the country places in Normandy. The peasant says:      "It is a paying-business," and he sends his daughter to keep an establishment of this character just as he would send her to keep a girls' school.      She had inherited the house from an old uncle, to whom it had belonged. Monsieur and Madame Tellier, who had formerly been innkeepers near Yvetot, had immediately sold their house, as they thought that the business at Fecamp was more profitable, and they...

...he let out a hoarse cry, his vision dissolved. He blinked, loosing a cold droplet that traced the curve of his flushed cheek, and though Hatano recognized these were tears, the arms to wipe them away were both wrapped around the broad, rocking back of the man above him. Even had they been free, with the firm, muscular hips driving rhythmically between his splayed legs and stoking the fever coursing through his body, he could afford his tears little attention. “Oh, oh—ah!” His voice rose in fitful, broken bursts, pitched high to a fawning tenor and dripping thick and cloying as honey from his lips. It was hardly the voice of a man past his thirtieth year, and the sound of it overwhelmed him with shame. But having recently learned that any attempt to restrain himself would only intensify the torture, he could not silence that tearful voice. “Could you… loosen up, a little more?” Mashiba breathed words into his ear. “You’re too tight.” His tone was deep and low, and yet glazed with a certain lascivious sweetness. He was five years Hatano’s junior but his cool composure showed nothing of it, and while this inspired an untimely feeling of frustration, Hatano could not deny that Mashiba’s voice mesmerized him. He fought to relax as he had been told but he could not ease the tension in his stiff, trembling legs, and spasms shook him helplessly each time Mashiba’s heat found leeway to slip further inside his body. “Having trouble…?” It was not only Mashiba’s voice but his physique and...

Education in Australia is very different to where I come from; it requires selflearning and self-reflection for overall development and self-improvement. Obviously the word “self” is important in education in Australia and from this perspective learning has become so much more real and enjoyable. One of the main reasons to choose English Writing is to express my thoughts, opinions and arguments in writing which I have never been encouraged to do before. Love and War

...All is not fair in love and war People say that love never fails, That all is fair in love and war, But really, how do you know, What love can or can not do? And if all is fair in love and war, then Why does someone always end up getting hurt? I know my love will never fail, Because I love you with all my heart and soul, Because I would give my life for you, And everything I am or have just to be with you. However, I can not be fair to all Because all is not fair in love and war. I wish to hurt no one, so I don't, But by doing so, I hurt myself. My heart wants to be with you so much And yet I wish to hurt no one. So I don't, I don't confess my love for you, I keep it locked inside, And as a friend I stay by your side. My love for you remains forever pure and unchanged. I love you, Yes, I do, with all my heart and soul, With all that I am and hope to be just for you. My heart untamed and wild, dreaming of what if, But it's cut in half by the love I feel for both. My heart belongs to you but only half, Because I gave the other half away to him. Now I suffer for my love, for both are great, But only one, I wish I could be with forever. All is not fair in love and war, So I love you both and suffer much, Because my heart is wounded, torn in half. I can not speak of my deep love for you, I can not confess my feelings to you. So I go on with my life pretending nothing's wrong. Why must I go on without your love? It's faith, I guess, that I suffer so. It's destiny to love you so. ...

Intriguingly, she seemed to be slightly self-conscious. Or perhaps, he thought with a hardened cynicism that had been honed over years, she carefully projected that vulnerable fragility. Something in their depths had caught him, combined with that lush mouth, looking up at him so innocently, full of a shocked kind of awe.
