These letters included four cryptograms, which are messages in which the writer replaces letters with symbols. These puzzles were nearly impossible to decode, and they made it that much more difficult for anyone to discover his identity. In these letters, he would take responsibility for his murders and also threaten to harm more innocent people, including children. With these letters, the Zodiac Killer also made a mockery of the San Francisco Police Department and caused panic throughout the entire community (“Zodiac Killer,” 2014). Out of the four letters that were sent, only one was officially solved by a couple who happened to see the letter on the front page of the paper. The first known murders took place on December 20, 1968 in Vallejo, California. The victims were Betty Lou Jensen, a sixteen-year-old female, and David Faraday, a seventeen-year-old male. As the story goes, they were sitting in their car at a lake when the Zodiac Killer approached them. David Faraday was shot in the head once, and he died on the way to the hospital. Betty Lou Jensen was shot five times and died on the scene. Microscopy is the science of the examination of small objects using microscopes. Technically we have two types of microscopes, the optical microscope which was first invented in late 1500s. It uses light and glass lenses (objectives) to magnify the image of an object up to 4X, 10X, 40X and a 100X. The second type is the electron microscope which was developed at early 1900s, it uses an electron beam in the place of light and electromagnets in the place of objectives to allow a much higher resolution up to two million times. In this experiment we will be using the optical microscope and not the electron microscope to examine specimens, as it is available in almost all the laboratories. In addition, the costs of the optical microscope is too low compared to that of the electron microscope. Moreover, the optical microscope can be stored in normal room temperature and pressure not requiring a vacuum as the electron one does. Materials: Compound light microscope and stereomicroscope. Denial of food and water to inmates, particularly those serving solitary confinement is extremely inhuman and such practice should be stopped. However, there several reports that confirm this practice (Morrison, 2013). There are reports of mentally ill patients being denied food and water for a prolonged period (ACLU, 2014). The prison meant for women in Michigan (Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility) is accused of brutality as the employees starve inmates in solitary confinement. I believe combining effective uses of logos, pathos, and egos along with structure are very important. My persuasive writing reflects the way I think about argumentation in general. I can see how easy it can be to write a paper arguing a point, but not doing it in the correct manner. For example, if a writer just argues his point without giving any strong evidence and offers no counter-argument the paper will not be effective in persuading the reader. While my writing demonstrates strengths in organization and thesis development, I will continue to work to improve proofreading skills and sentence structure. What’s helped my writing this semester is that I feel confident about work. My writing demonstrates my strength in organization. A lot of this strength originates from class activities and notes. The class that had the biggest effect on me was when we learned about rhetorical analysis structure on page one of my handwritten evidence. As we take a look at some background of the book Malachi, we see that prophetic movement by Haggai and Zachariah, the exiles that had returned under the leadership of Zerubbabel, finish the temple in 516 BC. In 458 BC, the land was strengthened by Ezra the priest and thousands of Jews. During this time, Artaxerxes king of Persia encouraged Ezra to reconstitute the temple worship (Ezr 7:17) and to make sure the law of Moses was being obeyed (Ezr 7:25-26). In 444 BC, this same king gave instruction to Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem and rebuild its walls.
