...In order to design and development an integrated state-of-the art human resources information system, the initial step is to define Riordan’s business needs and its current technical resources. Riordan’s ERP system was installed in 1992 and independent from its branch offices. This system is an integral part of the finance and accounting application. Riordan employs over 550 people and has offices located in California, Michigan, Georgia, and China. Each branch office has an independent finance and accounting system that is consolidated at the corporate headquarters in San Jose, California. A brief overview of Riordan’s current information system and dependent software applications confirmed a business need for an integrated, high-performance information system. The factors that suggest the business needs are documented employee dissatisfaction, labor intensive procedures, and pertinent data located in various locations. ...Service Request SR-rm-004 part2 JOE BLOW BSA/375 December 12th 2010 Mr. Swallows Service Request SR-rm-004 part2 Riordan Manufacturing human resources information system project has reached the end of the current systems analysis phase of the system development life cycle. The information gathering process has been completed and we must move on to the next step in our SDLC. Riordan’s executive management has made clear that they wish to make the system more efficient and secure. While conducting our analysis of the Riordan Manufacturing we found many issues that need to be addressed and several inefficiencies. We also found many security concerns that need to be addressed in the interest of the company and its personnel. Application architecture and process design Designing forms and reports is a user-focused activity that typically follows a prototyping approach (Dennis, Wixom, & Roth, Chapter 8, 2009). Prototypes may help to model desired behavior, design the user interface, or analyze resource utilization (Bass, Clements, & Kazman, Chapter 1, 2003). The analyst will take in to consideration the data we compiled during part one of the service request to design a prototype of the system. This prototype will be heavily based on the needs and goals of Riordan Manufacturing executive management and take in to account some of the input from the human resources department management and staff. We learned in part one of this service request that Riordan Manufacturing’s...

...Abstract This paper is in response to Riordan Manufacturing service request SR-rm-004 and will analyze the HR system and how to integrate the existing tools in use today into a single application. Riordan is seeking an upgraded system for their human resources department. In this paper I will identify and describe each phase of this new system development life cycle project from beginning to end. We will break down each section to make sure that each phase of the project is well communicated and answer any questions that may arise. The COO of Riordan Manufacturing, requests an analysis of the HR system. The request is for an integration of the existing range of tools into one unified system. Riordan is looking for a modern information system for the human resources department. A system plan to improve human resources department information systems will be the basis of this summary. History and Background of Riordan Manufacturing Riordan Manufacturing Inc. began with Dr. Riordan, a chemistry professor. Dr. Riordan received approval for a few patents that involved processing polymers into super strong plastic substrates. In 1991 Dr. Riordan started Riordan Plastics, Inc. after he discovered the commercial power and economic benefits of his patents. ...Riordan Manufacturing requires an all-inclusive system to maintain current and historical records for the sales and marketing department. These records are not currently centrally located and therefore are difficult to access throughout the company. The addition of server solutions will negate this issue and provide access to all of this information throughout the company and provide access to all sales agents in the field. Maintaining the customer base and expanding upon that base are vital to the success of the company and will require solutions that limit system access to only authorized personnel and devices. Having sales agents in different areas of the world and constantly traveling will require that they have mobility and flexibility to access the information that will ensure they are able to perform their duties. A server system will be installed to monitor mobile access to the network and VPN. The home office will be the site for all of the servers and network abilities to ensure one central location to the information provided by the company. The sales and marketing department will have one server dedicated to it for their information. This will physically remain in the IT department but will be logically placed in the Sales and Marketing Department. This system would be ideally a system that is easily expandable, yet secure enough to permit only authorized access by checking credentials on the active directory server. This server will connect to the active...

...Service Request SR-rm-004, Pt. 1 Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding and was founded in 1991 by Dr. Riordan. The company has facilities in San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan and Hangzhou, China with its research and development stationed at the corporate headquarters in San Jose, California. The company provides parts and services to the Department of Defense, aircraft manufacturers, appliance manufacturers, beverage makers, and automotive parts manufacturers. A new system is necessary to modernize its current Human Resources Information System which was developed in 1992. Currently, there is no single data repository in place. Whenever there is a need to change an employee’s information, the manager has to submit a request in writing and the payroll clerk will have to enter it manually into the system. Every manager keeps employees’ files individually, and a third-party company keeps the worker’s compensation records. Another manager keeps the information of job analysis results, salary surveys, and individual compensation assessments. A new system wide web based application that allows the managers to seamlessly merge and access all employees’ data, and allows employees and managers to access Human Resources data and interface data from every site plant is necessary. Information Gathering Techniques First, we need to identify the current location of paper and electronic data storage location. Then...

...Service Request SR-rm-004, Part 1 Name University Of Phoenix Riordan Manufacturing is a globally renowned plastic manufacturer, with almost 550 employees all over the world. Currently, they approximately earn $46 million every year. The manufacturing firm is owned by the Riordan Industries that gather a revenue of more than $1 billion. One of the changes that Riordan Manufacturing made in their operations is the incorporation of a Service Request order, SR-rm-04 to aid them in their analysis and maintenance of their HR system. This is one of the ways that shows that the company always hopes for innovations for their Human Resource Information System. With this Service request, the company asked my team to analyze their HR System, and identify different tools that the company can adopt for their Human resource Information system. With that, we will begin this Service request by following the typical Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), the first step is to the analysis stage. Service Request Sr-Rm-004, Part 2

...Service Request SR-rm-004, Part 2 BSA 375 November 15, 2010 Mary Burton Currently Riordan uses a very conventional, antiquated process for inventory management. Most inventory checks are done through a printed form and then handed off to an Inventory Clerk for data entry. This process consumes time and allows room for human error. To enhance the inventory management at Riordan Manufacturing, implementation of a barcode scanning system and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) system is recommended. This system will provide full automation of inventory tracking from the receipt of raw materials to the shipment of finished products. This will reduce human error, accelerate the movement of inventory, and reduce stock-out. In addition, it will solve Riordan’s supply chain problem by implementing a shorter and more efficient supply chain process. Riordan Manufacturing’s objective in implementing a new inventory management process is to increase revenue and financial stability. Automation of the inventory management system will lessen human discrepancies/errors thus minimizing lost revenue/cost. The system will also minimize the time the current staff would need to enter manually inventory data allowing the company to effectively use those resources in other areas of the organization. This proposal outlines the need for Riordan Manufacturing to implement a new system(s) that will enhance their current inventory and manufacturing processes. Suggested implementation...
