Science Report
Aim: To investigate whether the amount of blades on a pinwheel affects the amount of times the pinwheel will spin
Hypothesis: More blades on a pinwheel will make it spin more than a pinwheel with fewer blades.
Equipment:
* 5 pins * 5 pencils * Scissors * 5 sheets of paper * Ruler * Pen * Utility knife * Electric fan
Variables
Independent Variables: The amount of blades on the pinwheel
Dependant Variables: The amount of times the pinwheel spins
Controlled Variables:
-Pinwheel size -Angle blown
-Amount of air blown with
-Placing
-Natural Wind
-Type of paper
-Type of pin

Method 1. Gather Materials 2. Make the pinwheels with the templates provided 3. Set up experiment like diagram 4. Blow the pinwheel for 2 seconds with the fan 5. Record the amount of time it spins 6. Repeat steps 4-5 for each pinwheel 3 times to get an average Results | 1st try | 2nd try | 3rd try | Average | Amount of Blades (blades) | Times spun | Times spun | Times spun | Times spun | 2 Blades | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1+1/3 | 3 Blades | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 4 Blades | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 5 Blades | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 6 Blades | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | Conclusion In conclusion the amount of blades did not really affect the amount of time the pinwheel spins. Instead the shape of the shape and size affected the amount of times it spun. The hypothesis was not supported by these results.

Discussion The pattern noticed in the results of the experiment was a parabola with the 4-bladed pinwheel as the vertex. The results of the experiment could be improved by * Better pinwheels The pinwheels that were made were handmade and not all of them were according to size. The 4-bladed pinwheel was slightly bigger than the others that were made. Also when the pinwheels were made the person making them had sweaty palms which may have dampened the paper of my pinwheels. This might have affected my pinwheels because the damp paper restricted the pinwheel from using its full potential because it would go loose so it won’t catch as much air, therefore it will not spin as much. My results were reliable and valid because some of the results were repeated. My results could have been improved further to ensure the accuracy and reliability. Some sources of errors could be * The person’s judgement of the number of spins may vary from person to person because when I counted I rounded up the number of spins to make it a whole number. * The size of the pinwheels * Human reactions. When you time the fan and it reaches 2 seconds and you push the off switch it might not be in time. So it might have been a bit different for every pinwheel This experiment is significant to society because it would help the world make better wind turbines that generate extra electricity. Because every time the turbine turns it will generate electricity. This experiment decides what type of pinwheel will spin the most with each of the pinwheels exposed to same amount of wind.

In conclusion this experiment was done with the highest accuracy and reliability all the way through. They were all made with the same paper and blown with the same amount of air. It did not support the hypothesis but it did solver the aim
