Sociological Autobiography of Stacy Pollard

There were many different sociological movements happening at the time of my birth and several major historical events taking place in the world in 1970. The assignation of John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King and the women's rights movement. The world was on the verge of change and so was my mother's that snowy day in January.

I was born on January 26, 1970 a healthy little girl, a gender that would help and hinder me in the future, to a middle-aged woman that had no husband or family to turn to. Any other woman would have found this a difficult task to take one, having a new born and raising her daughter amid the women's rights turmoil, she handled this like a lady though, and it was watching her during these times that showed me how to handle the hard times with an elagence that only a lady could.

Those years seen a divorce and a new husband. I had seen everything from homelessness, poverty and sickness to moving up the social ladder as well as the economic ladder. I have seen the world changing around me, but the middle of Tennessee stayed in the past when it came to how a person thought of another person. The farther south the more racism and prejudice I seen, except I seen more racism against whites than African Americans. There were certain places in the south where an euroamerican was denied service.

My time in Tennessee was brought to an abrupt stop a little over two years ago. While in a violent abusive marriage to my second husband my youngest daughter devised a plan on how to rescue me. She finally got me here to Ohio where I am once again, homeless, jobless and fighting to better myself and become the independent woman I know my mother would want me to
