(more info from NASA Spacelink) Mariner 3 launched on November 5, 1964, was lost when its protective shroud failed to eject as the craft was placed into interplanetary space. Unable to collect the Sun's energy for power from its solar panels, the probe soon died when its batteries ran out and is now in solar orbit. It was intended for a Mars flyby with Mariner 4. Mariner 4 the sister probe to Mariner 3, did reach Mars in 1965 and took the first close-up images of the Martian surface (22 in all) as it flew by the planet. The probe found a cratered world with an atmosphere much thinner than previously thought. Many scientists concluded from this preliminary scan that Mars was a "dead" world in both the geological and biological sense. In order to validate the developed model, an eye-tracking experiment was conducted. Using an eye-tracking device that records the frequency and duration of fixation, the subjects were asked to view a life-size picture of a shelf. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyse the data gathered from the experiment. Results obtained showed that in-store visual factors are determinants of attention. It was found that the horizontal and vertical position and image affects the duration of fixation, while horizontal position and packaging material determines the frequency of fixation. Composite test scores of tenth grade students from the Educational Longitudinal Study of 2002 are examined using a four-part model which includes student role performance, school, family, and peer factors. Ordinary Least Squares analysis indicates that the strongest predictor of student test scores is socioeconomic status, resulting in a statistically significant increase in the standardized coefficient of .224 points.
