A stereotype is a widely held but oversimplified view of a specific type of people. Writer and poet, Judith Ortiz Cofer, argues that the media tends to promote false stereotypes about different groups of people. I wholeheartedly agree with Cofer’s claim because it is evident through television shows and news sources that the media sustains stereotypes. Through the news source, Buzzfeed, and the television show, Fresh Off the Boat, I aim to depict how the media perpetuates the harmful stereotypes that exist in society.
Though many news sources have good intentions to seek diverse perspectives, the cultural appropriation news sources creates strengthens existing stereotypes. Take Buzzfeed for example, and how they try to gain cultural perspective
