In today’s society, we live in a world that is ever changing with constant advancements in technology; one, for example, which is online schooling. This is a convenient, yet challenging advancement in today’s society.

In order for one to attain success in the online learning environment one must be disciplined, organized, computer savvy, and determined for success; Above all else, time management is key. An article retrieved from the University of Oregon (2009), Points out a couple of key factors to consider that can contribute to successful time management, in which they state, “It is important to note that time management is a personal skill; only you know your peak work hours, your attention span and your eating and sleeping needs, which must be planned for. Finding a time management strategy that best fits your needs is important” (University of Oregon, 2009).

A couple of barriers that may cause one to become unsuccessful in the online learning environment could be computer/internet malfunction, ones work schedule, family issues, procrastination, or unexpected events. “An effective mechanism for decreasing the likelihood of procrastination is effective time management. One of the biggest obstacles to effective time management is underestimating the amount of time needed to meet graduate-course expectations” (Chamberlain, 2015). Procrastination is a silent killer. In regards to family issue, which can also be an unexpected event, one must use copping mechanisms, just as they would if going to the work place. Coping mechanisms can include, praying, exercising, consulting therapy, seeking and advisor or mentor, and so on.
