What skills are needed to obtain success in college? Does the student need more than one skill to attain the goal that he/she is trying to accomplish? College requires multiple skills to be combined in order to reach the best possible outcome. Three of the top skills a student must possess in order to secure success include being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, and sharpening the saw.

Initially the student must choose to be a reactive or proactive person. The main difference is what they make decisions based off of. For example, Sean Covey writes,”Reactive people make choices based on impulse” (49), and “Proactive people make choices based on values” (49). Reactive people are like a gas tank, they explode once the heat is turned up. On the other hand, proactive people can control their reaction. Those that are proactive are like an air conditioner; they keep their cool no matter how high the temperature may …show more content…
This means that they must put first things first, and realize the choices that they are making today will forever affect them. The undergraduates must start dictating their own lives by making choices not only for themselves, but by themselves. For instance, in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, it says, “[the students are] standing at a crossroads of life and [they] have to choose which paths to take” (Covey 76). The concept may sound simple, but many struggle with it . It can be especially hard in college because of all of the peer pressures. They must always keep their eye on the goal, and never lose sight of it. Each time that the pupil becomes distracted it is as if they are taking a step backwards. For example, Micheal Gray says, “[the students] must re-examine their life on correct principles, [they] create a stable, solid foundation … and embrace and encompass the truly important areas of [their] lives” (Gray

Tools of Critical Thinking

...Critical Thinking TS8004 - Information Technology Research and Practice 8/15/11 Abstract This paper reflects the differences between a peer-reviewed article and a popular media article. Both publications are desired references for future research. Peer-Reviewed Article A Conceptual Framework for Using and Evaluating Web-Based Learning Resources in School Education This article is regarding Web-based learning resources. This is important to my research as I’m leaning toward distant learning for minorities and the education gap it can help to bridle. Web-based learning resources gives teachers a wide range of new teaching experiences that are not possible in traditional classroom. This paper provides research in an area where little study has been done. The purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual framework to explore the design and evaluation of Web-based learning resources in school education. The paper also examines the way in which the framework is used to evaluate students’ and teachers’ perceptions of Web-based learning resources by means of survey questionnaires. (Hadjerrouit, 2010) This paper is a source of refernce for my research as it provides an idea of Web-based learning resources that may be available fo minorities for Distant Education. Peer-Review Being a peer-reviewed article, I know that other scholars in this author's field has critically assessed the draft of this paper before it was publshed. For several decades, researchers have documented the gap between high school and college expectations, noting that even students who complete a college preparatory curriculum in high school are often poorly prepared for college. This lack of alignment contributes to high postsecondary remediation rates and hinders college completion. Over the years, state policymakers and education leaders have responded with a variety of wide-ranging and costly efforts, including the development of state-level content standards and assessments. However, these standards vary widely among states and generally lack sufficient rigor to assure readiness for credit bearing courses in college. It is...
