Cultural Differences between China and America: Based on the Family Education

Research Background: In modern life, education can be divided into family education, school education and social education. Among these educations, family education plays an important role in education. Not only in the development of a person, but also in the whole society. Family education has an irreplaceable role. Different nations have different family educations in the influence of politics, economic, culture and social condition. As the developing country—China and the developed country—America, they have a quite distinct family educations.

Research Significance: Through the analysis of different family educations between China and America, we can know the advantages and disadvantages of family educations from both nations. Then, we can put forward a new way of family education through absorbing the essence and discarding the dregs from American family education. It is beneficial to the development of Chinese family education. At the same time, Chinese children will get more rational family education, which contributes to develop more talented people for China.

Literature review: Family education is related to everyone. With the development of society, we need a lot of talented people. However, Chinese children and American children have different world outlooks because of politics, economic and culture. Nowadays, Chinese people pay more and more attentions to family education. They are trying to find out a better ways to educate their children. Zhang Wei (2008) holds that China and America have a different family education because of different historical backgrounds, economic forms, and social conditions and so on. Zhao Bo (2011) mentions that the child is the treasure of the family, the future of the society, and the tomorrow of the motherland. Moreover, family education is not only having a great impact on children’s development, but also directly related to the development of nation, society. There are also some books about comparisons between Chinese family education and American family education. For example, in Zhang Chuang Sheng’s book---MEIGUO BABA ZHONGGUO BABA, he mentions Chinese parents need to learn something from American family education. In his another book called American family instructions, he analyses the advantages and disadvantages between Chinese and America. He told thirty true stories to show the whole details of American family education.

Basic content: This paper mainly deals with the different family educations between China and America so as to put forward a new way of Chinese family education. There are five chapters in this thesis. Chapter One is the introduction of the importance and the different definitions of family education between China and America. Chapter two is a key part of this thesis, which illustrates the different family educations between China and America. In this part, different aims, methods, contents and results are tackled in detail. Chapter three is the reasons of these differences: different historical backgrounds, economic forms, social conditions and traditional cultures. Chapter four is the advantages and disadvantages of family education between China and America. Finally, a conclusion is drawn and some suggestions on Chinese family education.

Research focus: This thesis focuses on the different family educations between China and America. Dividing the different forms of family education into four detailed aspects, it includes aim, method, content and result. The causes of different family educations between China and America and constructing a new way of Chinese family education are also the key part as well.

Research difficulties: 1. The difficult part of the research is that as a Chinese person, I do not know what the real American family education is. 2. Whether Chinese people can receive the advantages of American family education or not.
