Dec. 15, 2014 ABSTRACT:

This thesis is tackles about the study of Sward speaks or Gay Language is consumption by second year students of TSM-B in Colegio de San Lorenzo who is currently taking up the subject Cultural Anthropology. A study to understand more of the slangs and terms that made by gays. This study differs to behavior of a person that why they adapt this kind of language or slang. This gay language nowadays can be uttered by non-gay. Many researchers did have studied years ago, by the gathered information’s the community truly respects and accepts the gay speak. Contrary to expectation, the analysis showed that by uttering a word as such, the one you are talking to gives an idea of how the ones truly feel; sometimes it serves as it a role to express how you feel by saying just one gay speak term.

INTRODUCTION:

Bekimon, jejemon, gayspeak, conyo, street-talk are the one of the new born language in the Philippines. It was a informal manner of speaking because of the mix language, dialect and even celebrities that contains a new whole different meaning. Do you hear some word such as pabebe, pa-chix, X-men, beki, baklush, tiboom, lesibiana, gaysia and pa-girl? You only find it in the Philippines, it was made by Gays or Homosexuals. It was literally fun in the Phillipines just like a advertisement in a TV ad, you’ll also enjoy the people here while enjoying the tourist spots. Gay speak is very viral and blunt communication by gays. Gay speak barrier in separating gay and non-gays. Today, gay speak is not for gays only.

Language involves new words. New words that are created and others disappear. The words or phrases currently used by gays. Gay speak is the most unstoppable and malleable of all languages. Therefore, gay lingo is deemed important for posterity reasons. They maybe use as reference or as aids in understanding the meaning of future literature material written today. The use of gay lingo was first used to avoid having other people hear what you are talking about, especially when it comes to sex. This also means of having defying to their own. Gay speak involve really fast, with obsolete words and phrases being rewritten and replaced especially when non-gays learn what it means.

Having a diversity of words in both Tagalog and English language you can now create a gay lingo word. Some gay lingo derives from celebrities, dialects, trademark brands, Spanish and Japanese terms which give a lot new meaning. Normally non-gay could not easily understand the gay lingo list of words, due to it is just for homo-sexual. It was born when the homo-sexual tries to be respect and being recognize by non-gays. It was a form of defense mechanism, that if they are always been the different among other so they build their own language that matches to their own society. When you observe a group of gays, you’ll able to find yourself laugh about the manner of their terms, little by little you’ll end up knowing some basic gay lingo. Japanese terms like ototo (octupus) but in gay language they say ‘otoko’ that means like a fangirl octopus, and sometimes they mix it with a tagalog language. They even revised some Filipino traditional nursery rhyme entitled Bahay Kubo.

In the 70’s the gay speak is locally known as sward speak, a columnist named Jose Javier Reyes publish a book titled Sward speak: A Preliminary Study. And today we still want to know the history of this kind of language. Unconsciously or not, heterosexuals or not have preferred use this kind of language. This kind of language is the birth of humor-genre in the literature. For some reasons, most of them is comic relief kind of vibe when you read a type of story wherein some of the characters use this kind of manner of speaking. The researchers also find the sward speak is not that hard to learn. In theater plays, comedians tend to express more humor if they use sarcasm and more of gay linggos. The offensive words diverse into less offending and more of like humorous. Even artist and comedy-star Vice Ganda is famous of not only being gay, but also have a kind of uniqueness in his witty remarks.

Now today LGTB slang has become of subject of interest in linguistic anthropology, to emerge more knowledge of how an LGTB person has created. It is a creative beautiful language that others would love to study to. For a further understanding about gay speak the researchers’ tackles a set of questions. Why do gay speak is so mainstream nowadays? What are the benefits of knowing the gay lingo? Are the gay speak help students in thesis?

KEYWORDS gay lingo, swardspeak, bekimon, gay language, gayspeak, jargon and argot

STATEMENTS:

1.) Does the ‘sward speak’ can help many students by using this kind of language? 2.) How can sward speak or gay lingo can affect in Filipino Language? Is it important to study this deeply into this matter? 3.) What are the advantage and disadvantage of the sward speak for teenagers?

BODY

The only prime language in the Philippines is Tagalog/Filipino. The rest is called dialect such as Ilokano, Chabakano, Bisaya, Malay,Waray-Waray, Yakan, Maranaw etc. Today we recognize the new formed slang that came from LGTB community. They are amazingly great to think that they mix different dialect, personalities/artist, foreign languages and deep tagalog terms. They build a language barrier in the past because they think that they should have a different language for the member of third sex. Years goes by, we acknowledge the diversity and the common rights of LGTB community. We also reconsider their existence; we also include them a human right passed in the senate. The incredible growth of people speaking this is unstoppable. They have also a community for protecting the human rights being a straight or not.

We all know that Filipinos are stereotypes when it comes to guys who like to cross-dressing, to wear skinny shirts, dark make ups and being called as ‘bakla’. They always tend to be socially and verbally discriminated in the childhood days. But now we gradually tolerates gays and their ways but they also a human who should be treated right. We cut the horrible ways, they also a undiscovered gem in Philippine Society. Sometimes who are being bullied the most have the kindest and purest heart than to those who is straight but trying to be superior to others. Gay speak is also build to protect gays from discriminating eyes of people who didn’t want to try to understand gays at all. For all we know, nothing wrong by their gender preferences so they also let us know their language. The language barrier is also hard as it seems like; you can’t understand one’s person’s belief if you don’t know what he/she saying. Talking is communicating. When you talk less there is a higher chance of misconception of what you want to say or express. You can’t express yourself only by acting upon it. The quote ‘actions without words are confusing but words without action is meaningless’ the heart of gay speak is expressing one’s self by the uniqueness of saying it. It captured many interest of the artist, columnist, professors and even students because of its creativeness, uniqueness, dynamic, flexibility and originality. You can never compare it to other foreign language.

As we look back, it’s kind pretty bad horrible past of the gay side to tell. But do you think that being influence speaking gay lingo is bad? There is no such thing is bad nor good in this argument, thus society formally welcomes this new born language. The important thing by using sward speaks knowing it that it has benefits and disadvantages. Sward speak have a different kinds of meaning. Wikipedia says: “a vernacular language derived from Englog, and is used by anumber of gay Filipinos. It uses elements from Tagalog, English, and Spanish, and some are from Niponggo, as well as celebrities’ names and trademark brands, giving them new meanings in thecontext of this unique language”. The flexibility of sward speak fits for us, whether you’re old, girl, straight, gay or even a child. It was easy to learn because of resemblance and common terms combined into one. It was too main stream, that don’t require subject terms-agreement rules, past/present/future tense, grammatical rules etc.

How about the students or teens’ view in the gay speak being as a stoppable language in the Philippines? It was in between good and bad. The articles that the researchers have just read, the gay lingo is just like other language too. It has metamorphosis, it gradually changes due time. It was originally based on gays on 60’s that fight for their freedom of expression. All of us have a right to study the history of this language; they have to be part in our anthropology. It was very useful to undergo many changes trough the years. In over time, they have almost One of the positive fact is, when you are memorizing, you can have studying patterns by saying a gay term that resemble to the one’s you’ve been memorizing about. Some of the little disadvantages is you can express yourself in non-threatening matter by being sarcastically using gay lingo. You can also insult someone who didn’t have knowledge about sward speak. You can fool some of the foreigners by using this. It is like a secret code that only Filipino people only knows. A kind of secret code that few people would only understand what you wanted to hide from speaking gay lingo. It is famous in this generation, over 500 new terms that have been invented of.

Who that the gay invent terms? They invented base on what the literal interpretation. Or they add another word to form a new word like: inlababo, keribells, huhubells, karir and shokla. As for Murphy Red had written on his formal essay “Gayspeak in the Ninetities” that tackles about the evolution of it is gradually drawn every interested person who wants to speak it. The word ‘cheap’ can have different kinds of gay terms like: chaka, chapter, champaka, chararat, campacola, chapluk, chapa, chop suey and champola. Many different slangs in one common word. It was simply amazing for its creativeness. A public figure like Vice Ganda is also the a role model for using this. He instantly think of a creative word or she is make a dance craze that will everybody will love. As for the research, gays are very influentially good. They are good at making someone laugh at their crack up jokes. Just like how the sward speaks lightens one’s heart to a speaker. In one of the sites, linguist have classified gay speak as a sociolect or socio dialect. It was proven that it is kind of secret code for gays. It was only exclusive only for gays as go years passed by we can say it was now socio-economic dialect, used by many. The ‘many’ is always be the one who wants to know the list of gay terms. Dictionaries didn’t include sward speak terms, they believe that the meaning of the words determines the people who use it. It was a language culture that didn’t have to be written in formal form but for people to pass by through their own mouth.

Working Student

...INTRODUCTION Many students of HRM in Taguig City University work part-time Employment during school could improve grades if working promotes aspects that correspond with academic success, such as industriousness or time management skills, or instead reduce grades by reducing time and energy available for school work. Otherwise, working might be associated with academic performance, yet not directly influence it, if unobserved student differences influence both labor supply and grades. Unmotivated students might neither work for pay nor receive good grades because they put little effort into the labor market or school. In contrast, HRM students uninterested in academics might work long hours that would otherwise have been devoted to leisure. Students might misjudge the link between college achievement and future earnings when making labor supply decisions. If so, obtaining a consistent estimate of how such decisions affect academic performance is prospectively important for policy consideration. Some of HRM students in Taguig City University Students are more likely to work than they are to live on campus, to study full time, to attend a four-year college or university, or to apply for or receive financial aid. Student Adversity

... Adversity allows an individual to develop a sense of discipline, as well as encouraging individuals to exercise their mind to confront a problem or conflict. Specifically, students who encounter hardships are more inclined to try harder, which promotes competition within the school. Although adversity may be beneficial towards some students, challenges can be detrimental for students who lack confidence. For instance, some students develop a mentality of despair; they believe that if one has to work hard, then the person does not have the natural ability for the assignment. Based on the effects of adversity aforementioned, I believe that students can both benefit from the obstacles faced in school with the proper mentality or the effects could be hindering. Students face adversity every day, regardless of how transparent the obstacle may be; some problems may not be as evident as others. According to Carol S. Dweck, author of Brainology, all students face adversities throughout their high-school career, specifically, the challenge of overcoming a fixed mindset. In this excerpt, “The belief that intelligence is fixed dampened students’ motivation to learn, made them afraid of effort, and made them want to quit after a setback”, Carol portrays the illusion that students have over intuitive intelligence (Dweck 2). Students who share this belief of a...
