1. BCS Examination
A) Total No. of Cadres
BCS Exams are held for 28 different cadres.

B) Eligibility
AGE
i) 21 to 30 years (for General candidates) ii) 21 to 32 years:
a) for Freedom Fighter's Children and Health cadre,
b) tribal candidates for only general education cadre.

C) Preliminary Examination
This examination is a screening test conducted on the following pattern:
Subject : Bangla, English ,General Knowledge, Bangladesh & International affairs, General Science and Technology, Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability Everyday science
Duration : 1 hr
Marks : 100
Question Type : Objective type

D) Subjects for written Examination
i) For General Cadres: Nine Compulsory subjects.
General Bangla = 200 Marks
General English = 200 Marks
Bangladesh Affairs = 200 Marks
International Affairs = 100 Marks
Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability = 100 Marks
General Science and Technology = 100 Marks
Viva Voce = 100 Marks

ii) For technical cadres: Seven compulsory subjects and two post related subjects.
General Bangla = 100 Marks
General English = 200 Marks
Bangladesh Affairs = 200 Marks
International Affairs = 100 Marks
Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability = 100 Marks
Two Papers for post Related subject = 200 Marks
Viva Voce = 200 Marks

iii) One applying for both cadres: Nine compulsory subjects and two post related subjects.

E) Place of Examination
Preliminary Test and written examination held in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet

F) Quota Distribution
Quota Distribution (for both cadre and non-cadre class I & II gazetted posts) :
i) Merit - 45% ii) District - 55%
a) Freedom Fighter/Freedom daughters/sons - 30%
b) Female - 10%
c) Tribal - 5%
d) General Quota - 10%

2. Non Cadre Examination
For the recruitment of non-cadre gazetted class-I and class-II officers two conventional recruitment processes are followed. These are:
1) Preliminary, written and viva voce exam.
2) Written and viva voce exam.

3. Departmental Examination
There are 28 different cadres of the Bangladesh civil service. Every officer of the entry level posts of a cadre service must qualify in a departmental examination conducted by the Public Service Commission. The BPSC also conducts departmental examinations for certain categories of non cadre services. The examination is held twice a year, preferably in June and December.

4. Senior Scale Examination
There are 28 different cadres of the Bangladesh civil service. Every officer after being confirmed to the cadre post has to qualify in a Senior Scale examination for promotion to a senior scale post. This examination is also conducted by the Public Service Commission. The examination is held twice a year, in February and August. Examination System
There are 3 Successive stages in the BCS examination

1. Preliminary Examination
This examination is a screening test.

2. Written Examination:
The Minimum average qualifying marks shall be 50%. A candidate securing less than 25% marks in any subject shall be deemed to have secured no marks in that subject.

3. Viva Voce Examination:
Each successful candidate after the written examination shall be interviewed by a board to be constituted by the commission in this behalf. The minimum qualifying marks for the viva is 40%.

Final Merit Tabulation:
Final merit list is prepared on the basis of written and viva marks of the successful candidates.

Quota Distribution:
The Quota is distributed on the basis of final merit list, quota reserved for matching the choice of the candidates and the availability of the posts.
