Examining the Impact of Culture on Academic Performance
Wilmington University

Summary
According to Matthew Lynch (October 28, 2011), in his article “Examining the Impact of Culture on Academic Performance” describes how culture impacts on children’s performance at school. Many theories depicts the differences among cultural groups which affects the students in their school performance. First, the cultural deficit theory suggests that home environment impact on children performance in different aspects like skills, knowledge and behavior. Second, the expectation theory states that teachers expect less from students based on different cultural backgrounds. Third, the cultural difference theory explains the importance to create an awareness for teachers to educate students by considering the difference between school environment and home atmosphere. Teachers play a main role by nourishing every student life both academically and socially. Families adapting the culture and climate of the place they live in favor children in gaining skills, knowledge and behavior.
In this article, Lynch discuss about theories that teachers should focus on new methodologies to treat students irrespective of their cultural background and family environment which support children to excel in their performance. Although there are many theories which illustrates the problems, I consider that by following certain methodologies minimizes the impact of culture on academic performance.
Cultural deficit theory states that some schools consider the culture of the place they are in, but they don’t consider about the international culture. Teachers should educate children without considering their cultural background. Teachers should not expect grades depending on racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. For instance, if some student didn’t excel with his\her grades, teacher should not come to

It is designed for finding out various ways to get the item required by a person by subsequent trading between people acting as intermediataries in the process and themselves getting the item they want in exchange for item they offer to trade. This project implements the algorithm by making an interface to find out the possible solutions to exchange subjects between students during FFCS (Fully Flexible Credit System) subject registration. Thus the said items for trading in this case are the subjects of FFCS. Current system of FFCS assigns random predefined slot timings to students during which they can perform their registration. Subjects are allocated on the basis of ‘first come first serve’. Although add/drop of subjects is allowed, there is no facility for exchange of subjects among students. Presently the algorithm just shows the basic implementation of the exchange process involving a certain number of people. By using PHP and other web technologies as well as appropriate databases, this proposed system can be used to exchange subjects over the internet. The trading algorithm can be utilized for other goods and/or systems functioning on the basis of two people transactions...

...Advantages & Disadvantages of Twitter By Joslyn Hamilton, eHow Contributor Joslyn Hamilton After 10 years managing yoga and wellness companies, Joslyn Hamilton founded a freelance writing business, Outside Eye Consulting, in 2008. She is a regular contributor to Examiner.com, Suite101 and Trazzler. Ms. Hamilton studied journalism at Syracuse University, but ultimately graduated in 1993 with a photography degree. Advantages & Disadvantages of Twitter Twitter is fast becoming a leading online community as well as a powerful social marketing tool. The beauty of Twitter lies in its simplicity. Compared to other community-oriented web services like Facebook and MySpace, Twitter is streamlined, simple, and straightforward. This both contributes to and detracts from its usability. Twitter is Easy to Join * Advantage: It takes less than a minute to create an account with Twitter and start “tweeting.” The rules of the game are pretty straightforward. Registration is instant, and there is no need to follow up with a confirmation email. Disadvantage: because Twitter is so easy to join, virtually everyone has a Twitter account, so their server tends to get overloaded easily. It’s not uncommon to have trouble connecting to Twitter’s site. 1. Twitter is Easy to Use * Advantage: Twitter limits its updates to 140 characters, so there’s no need (or temptation) to launch into long-winded prose or to over-explain your thought. There is only one main screen...

Group Discussion 1. Contingency theory is a class of behavioral theory that claims that there is no best way to organize a corporation, to lead a company, or to make decisions. Instead, the optimal course of action is contingent (dependent) upon the internal and external situation. Several contingency approaches were developed concurrently in the late 1960s. Clause and Phrses

...how clauses and phrases work will help you better understand sentence structure. You’ll need to have a working knowledge of subjects, predicates, and objectsbefore you continue. Clauses A clause is a subject and a predicate working together. Examples I took the dog to the park. The example has one subject, I, and one predicate, took. Since they are working together to form a comprehensible sentence, this sentence has one clause. I love learning, so I spend a lot of time reading. This example has two predicates: love and spend. Since they are each working together with separate subjects, this sentence has two clauses. Phrases A phrase is a group of words related to the subject, predicate, or object. Phrases do not contain a subject and a predicate, or we would call them clauses. Phrases provide additional information about subjects, predicates, and / or objects, and understanding how they work is helpful to building an analyzing sentences. Examples After working late into the night, Jack fell asleep on his desk. The emboldened portion of the sentence exemplifies the phrase. It provides additional information about our subject, Jack, but the sentence does not require this information to be grammatically complete. I left my keys inside of the Whole Foods, my favorite grocery store. In this example sentence, the predicate is left and the subject is I. On the other side of the sentence we have a phrase that provides additional information about the object of the sentence Whole...

...and 2,500 words (excluding notes and bibliography) and represent original and independent work. There may be a case for writing a slightly shorter essay if one of your universities requires a shorter sample essay. Supplying an accurate word count is in any case crucial. Your essay should aim to be quite a focused piece and be a work of analysis and interpretation rather than just description. You may need to seek advice on the planning, structuring and the title of your essay. Some modifications may be necessary for scientific submissions. Where will inspiration for my essay come from? Your essay may, or may not be, a further development of normal subject work (e.g. Physics Research and Analysis, English Phillimore, History Gibbon Prize etc); it may be on subjects which have no existing prizes; it may be on a subject which is not on the curriculum (e.g. Anthropology) or which is cross-curricular (e.g. English and History of Art); or it may have emerged from Cultural perspectives lessons, the Cultural Perspectives timed essay which you take at the end of this term, be inspired by Critical Thinking work or be a ‘further developed’ praebendum essay. For example, if the subject filled out that “I am in favor of smoking”, as for group 1, we need to fill in that “I am not in favor of smoking”. 3rd step: In this step, we are going to ask the subject to study the new survey carefully. And next, we ask them to fill out an interpersonal Judgment Scale to evaluate the person whose attitudes he saw, and at last, ask them to tell us how much he thinks he would like the person and how much he thinks he would like to work with the person in an experiment. 4th step: Finally, in this last step, we ask the subject to return the Interpersonal Judgment Scale to us, and we figure out the score with counting the number according to the answer that the subject...

Contrast Analysis

...Introduction The focus of the present thesis is the passive voice, perceived from a semantico-syntactic point of view. My primary aim is to explore the use and functions of the passive voice in English, examining the reasons which motivate an author to prefer the passive form to the active one. Secondary interest is devoted to the function and the use of the passive voice in Czech. As research material I have chosen the short stories by the American writer O. Henry and their Czech translations by Stanislav Klíma. The reasons why I have chosen the genre of a short story are that it is noted for the unity of time, place and action. I believe that due to this fact, the results of my research will give higher evidence of the use of the passive voice since the basis for comparison is unified and compact contrary to, for example, a novel. For the same reason of evidence, I explore just the translations of one translator, since everyone has his/her personal style and different way of thinking and understanding of original text. I am interested in the issue of information packaging, especially in the different ways of expressing one and the same reality in the two languages: when both active and passive versions are formally permitted, what factors favour the choice of one over other? The passive voice is a phenomenon which is involved both in English and in Czech but in unlike extent. As far as I know, the passive voice is a favourite means of expression in English whereas in Czech...
