Executive Summary
Sugar Rush will be a small entrepreneurial store of sweets located in Ayala Columns, Makati City of Philippines. Sweet products will be offered with a variety of sizes and styles. This store will contain a comfortable seating area, allowing customers to stop in and sit down. As a Sweets store, Sugar Rush will have an extensive target market. People of all ages enjoy delicious sweet products, and will therefore be included in the target market. Sweet products are a low priced item; they are obtainable by nearly anyone, despite varying incomes, again keeping the target market large. Product quality is critical in the food industry. For that reason, Sugar Rush will ensure product quality through the use of fresh ingredients, sale of only fresh sweet products, and a focus on cleanliness. Innovations are also a goal of the company. One way which this will be accomplished is through creating new sweet products each month and offering them for a limited time. This will allow the business to test new products and determine which ones are preferred by consumers. Similarly, Sugar Rush will provide seasonal sweet products with flavors corresponding to the seasons. These treats will also only be available for a limited time each year. Product quality and innovations will be a major focus of the business. Though Sugar Rush will open as a single, small store, over time the business will strive to expand. Once the store proves to be a success, the business will open more stores in areas nearby the original. As the success of the overall business increases, Sugar Rush will slowly expand to a wider range of locations. A business website will allow consumers to view everything offered by the store, as well as grant the option for customers to place orders. These expansions will allow Sugar Rush to be accessed by a larger quantity of consumers.

P429 Kristen's Cookie

...Indivisual Assignment 1: Kristen’s Cookie I. Flow Diagram for fulfilling an order II. How long will it take to fill a rush order? Washing out mixer bowl and mixing ingredient + Spooning cookie on to tray + Putting cookie in oven & setting timer and baking + Leaving for cool + Packing in a box + Accepting payment 6 + 2 + 10 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 26 min III. How many orders can you fill in a night, assuming you are open four hours each night? Since the required resource for different stages are not all in common, Kristen and his roommate could process two orders simultaneously. However, before starting the second tray of cookie, we need to wait until Kristen is done with washing mixer bowl, mix ingredients and spooning cookie on to tray for the first tray, for which the time lag would be 6 + 2 = 8 min. After Kristen are done with washing mixer bowl, mix ingredients and spooning cookie on to tray for the second tray, they would realize the oven is still in use of baking the first tray of cookie; therefore, we need to wait another 2 minutes for the availability of oven. Thus, the total time lag between the first and the second would be 8 + 2 = 10 min. The expression of the number of minutes to produce n one-dozen batches is: 16+10n≤4*60 So we can get n≤22.4. The nearest integer is 22; therefore, we can fill 22 order in a night in...

Rock Music History of Bangladesh

...The history of Bangladeshi rock music started in 1960 when a handful of self-taught musicians got together to create original music tracks. Their efforts resulted in the birth of the "Bangla Rock Scene". Among the pioneering groups in the late '60s were bands such as Windy Side of Care (Rafique Mazhar Islam Saju and Rafi Omar) (Ex-Iolites), The Lightnings, Rambling Stones, Ugly Phases and Insex Dui. They didn’t have the privilege of expensive instruments or sound systems, which present-day rockers now take for granted.[1] In 1963, "Zinga Goshty" was the first[citation needed]Orchestra Band in Bangladesh, formed in Chittagong by a young group of students of Chittagong College. [2] Azam Khan (Uchharon) a.k.a. "the Legend", a.k.a. "the Imaginative Composer", emerged around early and late 70s. Happy Akhand's "Abar Alo Elo Je Shondha" is a well known song. His premature death was a big blow to all of the musicians who were influenced by Happy's passion for music. His contemporaries include some popular figures such as late Firoze Shahi, Ferdaus Wahid and Fakir Alamgir. Among the old bands there are many bands that are still active, such as is Souls (1970), Feedback (1976), Miles (1978), and others. [3] Progression (1980s) While the early phase of Bangladeshi rock is marked by romantic songs and mellow tunes, the scenario began to change in the '80s. "Warfaze" was a progressive rock band of the country in this period. "Feedback" was another band in the `80s with their album...

2112

...Tyler Gathercoal Written Assignment 2112 November 11, 2011 This seven movement “suite” as many people would describe it, is almost 21 minutes in duration. The song, 2112 (pronounced, twenty-one twelve), was written by the band, Rush. Rush is composed of three members; Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart. The band originated in Canada in the year 1974. They quickly moved to the United States where they became one of the most popular bands in their era. Alex plays the guitar, Geddy plays the keyboards and bass while singing, and Neil Peart plays his massive drum-set and writes the band’s lyrics. In 1976, Rush came out with their fourth album, 2112—this album is often referred to as “Rush’s break-through album”. This album might possibly feature Rush’s greatest song ever composed, 2112. This song is based in the year 2112, and takes place at “The Temples of Syrinx”, which is where many priests live their lives. These priests do not believe in individualism, they believe they are all equal. All the priests that live at this temple are banded together under the Red Star of the Solar Federation. One day, one of these priests finds a guitar. He learns to how to play this guitar and shows the other priests, even though guitars have been banished from the temple for decades. The high priest thinks the guitar is evil and that it had destroyed the older generations of mankind. The high priest destroys the guitar. The 2112 album cover is seen as a red pentagram with...

The Effects of Sugar on the Body

...What that Sugar Rush Really Does When I started to read this article, I was literally blown away by the statistics and studies that they had to back up their findings. A large amount of sugar can actually damage the brain, causing you to stop producing memories, and stunts your ability to learn new things. My first question to this was why does it do this? Well the article kept on explaining to me! Sugar slows the creation of a specific chemical in the brain, and this slowly can eventually stop the production, forcing you to head into a permanent stupor. The creation of this chemical is crucial in the continual development in the brain, and in some cases can harm your current memories. Continuing to read that I began wondering if this could stop people with sugar from learning new things, and remembering certain things, like what they can and can’t eat, what pills they need to take when, and how to properly use a new item. Could it be that the consistent diet of sugar through the years could be a cause of Alzheimer’s, their memories deteriorating because they no longer produce that chemical, or have stunted it to a point that it doesn’t produce enough to keep up with new things. A fine example is an older man or woman with an iPod, or smart phone. These could be causes and reasons, but what is the effect. My sugar intake has dropped considerably since reading this article, and it’s something that I don’t believe will help him in the long run besides teasing and tempting...

Sugar Love

...Bottom of the Drink They had to go. The Coke machine, the snack machine, the deep fryer. Hoisted and dragged through the halls and out to the curb, they sat with other trash beneath gray, forlorn skies behind Kirkpatrick Elementary, one of a handful of primary schools in Clarksdale, Mississippi. That was seven years ago, when administrators first recognized the magnitude of the problem. Clarksdale, a storied delta town that gave us the golden age of the Delta blues, its cotton fields and flatlands rolling to the river, its Victorian mansions still beautiful, is at the center of a colossal American health crisis. High rates of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease: the legacy, some experts say, of sugar, a crop that brought the ancestors of most Clarksdale residents to this hemisphere in chains. “We knew we had to do something,” Kirkpatrick principal SuzAnne Walton told me. Walton, Clarksdale born and bred, was leading me through the school, discussing ways the faculty is trying to help students—baked instead of fried, fruit instead of candy—most of whom have two meals a day in the lunchroom. She was wearing scrubs—standard Monday dress for teachers, to reinforce the school’s commitment to health and wellness. The student body is 91 percent African American, 7 percent white, “and three Latinos”—the remaining 2 percent. “These kids eat what they’re given, and too often it’s the sweetest, cheapest foods: cakes, creams, candy. It had to change. It was about the...

Natural Sweetenters

...popularity in the U.S. didn’t begin until around 2003. Now it’s commonly used as an alternative to sugar, honey, or maple syrup for cooking, baking, and sweetening everything from coffee to oatmeal. Agave nectar (or syrup) is produced from the agave plant – the same plant used to make tequila. It tastes similar to honey with a hint of molasses and is manufactured by extracting the juice from the plant’s core, which is then filtered, heated or treated with enzymes and concentrated until it becomes a syrupy liquid. Proponents of this natural sweetener claim that it’s a healthy alternative to sugar, honey, and other sweeteners because of its low glycemic index. It’s advertised as ideal for people who are watching their weight or folks with diabetes who are working to lower their blood sugar levels. But before you add agave nectar to your grocery list, here’s what the heck you need to know. Agave nectar contains up to 90 percent fructose. That’s significantly more than table sugar, which is 50 percent fructose (and 50 percent glucose) once it’s broken down by your body. Agave’s high fructose content gives it advantages and disadvantages. The good part first: Because fructose has a low glycemic index, agave doesn’t cause your blood sugars to spike as rapidly after eating it, which means it can temper the sugar rush that occurs after eating something sweet. And even though agave and white sugar contain approximately the same number of calories, agave is markedly sweeter. That means you...

One Step at a Time

...little girl or boy you sat next to, and they offer to share their crayons, you are in heaven. If you are angry at someone, you could threaten not to be their friend, and they’d immediately say sorry. There was no “start thinking about your future” thing either. You didn't get grounded or have your phone taken away from you, you just got a minute in the bad kid chair and that was it. Back then, life wasn't looming over you like a hawk. As we grow older, the pressure just builds up on us. We are expected to do the best we can to accomplish a lot of things like having high grades in school and being a dean’s lister when we reach college, and when we graduate, we are expected to land a good job immediately. And because of these, we tend to rush things and do them all at the same time. Maybe that’s why old people are so worn down. People always try to make something out of everything. They ask questions such as “Why does the sky have to be blue because of gases in the atmosphere?” and “why can't it simply be blue?” Then there are times that we ask the question “Why can’t be things be easier for just a little while?” It's true that we do need to think about our future and we do need to prioritize. But still if you keep on worrying about those kind of stuff, there's a tendency that your life will be dull and will be filled with stress that comes with rushing things and trying to accomplish all of them in just one strike. With these, we tend to neglect the other aspects of our life...

...• 1 1/2 cups medium grain or pearl rice • 1/2 cup granulated sugar • 1/2 stick unsalted butter or margarine • peel of 1/2 lemon • 1 cinnamon stick • 1-2 tsp ground cinnamon Preparation: Pour approximately 3 cups of water in a large pot and bring to a boil. When it begins to boil, add the rice. Reduce heat a bit and simmer for about 10 minutes. Turn off burner and allow rice to sit in pot of water. Pour milk into another large pot and add sugar. Turn burner on low to medium heat. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Bring milk to a boil over medium heat, being careful that it does not boil over. While you are waiting for the milk to boil, drain the water from the rice. Once the milk boils, add drained rice, butter, cinnamon stick and lemon peel. Allow to gently boil for about 15-20 minutes, until rice is soft. Remove cinnamon stick and lemon peel. Remove from heat and pour rice pudding into a serving dish. Sprinkle the top with ground cinnamon. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving because the mixture retains the heat. Arroz con leche can be served warm or cold. If you want to serve it cold, allow the rice mixture to cool down in the serving dish for 20 minutes, then refrigerate at least 1 hour. In the region of Asturias in Northern Spain, this dish is served with a crust of caramelized sugar on top. The traditional method for forming the crust is to liberally sprinkle sugar on top, then place a very hot iron on top of the rice to caramelize...

Obesity in the Us

...the United States has paralleled the increasing use of HFCS. Current soft drinks and many other foods are sweetened with this product because it is inexpensive and has useful manufacturing properties. All of these reasons directly benefits the food companies, but are causing body damage and metabolic diseases for the consumers. Even though the corn lobby is trying to prove that HFCS is nearly similar to regular sugar, this is not true. HFCS is high in fructose (55%-72% fructose and 45%-28% glucose) citation needed for these statistics. that is bad for our health. It is so ubiquitous in processed foods and so over-consumed by the average American that many experts believe our nation faces the prospect of an epidemic of metabolic disease in the future, related in significant degree to excess consumption of high-fructose corn syrup. The fact that HFCS is a highly and overly processed unhealthy sugar that is also linked to obesity and other cardiovascular diseases should cause great alarm in all American consumers. First of all, HFCS is very different from regular table sugar. It is a highly processed sweetener that is bad for our health. If you ever tasted cornstarch, you know that it is not sweet. It has a dry and powdery taste. Turning corn into a sweetener involves a long complicated process. It is first processed into glucose using a series of enzymes. The glucose is then converted into a high concentration of fructose using another treatment with enzymes. However, sucrose has...

...Şima Mıhlayanlar 20702256 ENG400-13 A proposal to investigate practical and effective solutions to major problems of the over usage of high fructose corn syrup. Introduction Today, it is inevitable to face negative effects of high fructose corn syrup because high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has replaced cane and beet sugar in processed foods and soft drinks over the past 25 years. When you read the food labels in your kitchen you’ll find that we now consume HFCS in all kinds of processed foods, not just desserts and drinks also in breads, cereals, ketchup and yogurt so you will easily realize that you associate with the devil by consuming devil’s candy. However, despite the alarming damages of HFCS there is a huge demand for HFCS by firms and governments. Profit concerns and governmental issues are the major reasons behind demand but also there are some problems related to consumers. In this proposal it is intended to investigate the problems behind the over usage of HFCS and offer solutions against that danger, select the criteria to evaluate the applicability and efficiency of the proposed solutions and finally introduce the research methodology constituted the basis of my further research. Problem Definition There are some problems caused by people, firms and governments lead us to over use HFCS. The followings are the most crucial problems behind this issue; I. Yeast Fermentation

...bread, and the other "waste" products create the subtle flavors and texture that make a good loaf. HOW DOES IT WORK? In bread baking, we are trying to ferment grain in order to leaven it. We are also trying to release sugars trapped in the complex starch molecules to be used as yeast food, and much of it for flavor and crust color (caramelization). Yeast is a single-celled organism and only certain strains are used for fermenting grain. Yeast activation and the initiation of fermentation are triggered by hydration, from either water or some other liquid, and the presence of a food source. Fermentation ends at 140 degree F during baking when heat kills the yeast. (Fermentation can end earlier, if the yeast is killed by other factors.) Yeast feeds on sugar derived from the complex starch molecules from flour, a complex carbohydrate. The starch molecules are broken apart into simpler sugar molecules from enzymes in the flour when hydrated. Flour tastes like sawdust because its sugar components are too complex to differentiate on the tongue. The enzyme is a catalyst, which breaks apart the threads, freeing them so they become accessible to yeast and bacteria. Yeast lacks amylase and cannot break down starch into sugar. Since flour's endowment of sugars can only feed...
