Unit 1 Summary

Are Labels Good for kids?

Many have different views on rather labels help children are hurt them. It seems that we can't come to an agreement of what helps the child the most. I guess it depends on the child and the diagnosis. According to Gwyn W Senokossoff, labels give a sense of relief. She gives us her opinion as a parent and educator who faced this problem head on. Her son was diagnosed with CBD after years of trying to find out what was troubling her son. She took the necessary steps to get her child the help he needed but he was misdiagnosed with ADHD in the first grade. Gwyn knew things weren't getting better once he was being treated for ADHD so decided to get a second opinion. She took him to a psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD and bipolar disorder. Once Matthew was on the right medication there was a noticeable difference in his behavior. He was able to get into the gifted program and in the third grade inclusion program.

there is criticism for putting children on two or more drugs at one time with little research on the effects on children. Diagnosis are based on the observed behaviour not but scientific evidence. In a study in May 2006 conducted in the Tucson, Arizona hospital 376 patients were readmitted and 90 percent of the schizoaffective disorders were diagnosed as different disorders. This shows the lack of consistences within the field even within the same hospital. This error may be from different reason; observed behavior, interpretation and background information. The behavior modification that are stressed in Scott’s module are things parents can do to help their child in change their

As far as giving a typical definition it’s kind of difficult to give the internet one meaning. Unlike any other technology, the internet can be whatever we can make it. We can shape it however we may choose and the best part is how affective it’s used to connect to people, communities and countries all over the world. In the early days when the internet was still considered new, most people just used the internet to search for information. Most traditional communications...

Market Research Plan

...Executive Summary of research and findings Lodgepole Creek Certifies Organic Foods would like to know who they should be marketing to, in order to receive the best results for their company's success. They would also like to know how to best appeal to this marketing mix to gain their loyalty and to compete within the market. Three research objectives are identified: who should Lodgepole Creek's marketing mix consist of; research should be done to see how Lodgepole Creek can gain their loyalty. Researching and understanding what consumers want from organic sprouting companies will also help in solving the problem of competing within the market. Lodgepole Creek is the only organic sprouting company in the Nebraska Panhandle that offers its customers with a wide variety of products to include: alfalfa, sunflower, clover, bean and pea mix, lentils, wheat grass, and a "hot mix" of radish, cabbage, and mustard sprouts. Sprouts are one of the most complete and nutritional of all foods that exist. Adults between the ages of 20-40 years old who are single, single with children, married, and married with children should be the focus of Lodgepole Creek's advertising, keeping in mind that women do most of the household and grocery shopping. Single adults are trying to look their best, while older adults are wanting to feel their best, and eating healthy plays a large role in that process. Adults with children are also starting to go green when it comes to feeding their children; and...

...CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION AND THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY IMPROVEMENT ACT ANNETTE MCCLENDON Table of Contents History about CPSC Congressional Actions on the Improvement Act * CRS Summary * Major Congressional Actions * Public Law 112-28 * Chronology CPSC Commissioners The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent federal regulatory agency, which was established with the passage of the Consumer Product Safety Act in 1972, and began operating in 1973. The primary responsibilities of the CPSC were to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products. The CPSC also promotes the evaluation of consumer products for potential hazards, establishes uniform safety standards for consumer products, eases conflicting state and local regulations concerned with consumer safety, and selectively conducts research on potentially hazardous products. In a 1970 precursor study to the establishment of the CPSC, the National Commission on Product Safety’s Final Report (Final Report) was issued to the President and Congress. This report included extensive surveys – on product hazards, accident information systems, voluntary product standards, consumer education, the state of product safety law, the relationship between Federal law and State law, product safety policy in other countries – and also contained proposals for general product safety legislation, the core of which was to be the creation...

Nestle

...Executive Summary The following report supports our thoughts and goals regarding the market development of Nestlé’s Milo. Overseas, Milo has realized success in the marketplace for over half a century. Through our research and findings, we have determined Milo to be a potentially effective product in the United States. Recent global focus on individual health, specifically among children in schools, calls for a drink that provides all of the necessary nutrients for the active youth. As part of a well established global company such as Nestlé, the building blocks are in place for the growth and popularity for Milo. Our report centers mostly on the importance of promotion and place for the success of our firm and our product. In an attempt to create and strengthen the positioning of Milo in the United States, these two areas of the marketing mix will be essential aspects to the growth of Milo. Although the marketplace is currently consumed by well-founded companies such as Pediasure and Ovaltine, we are optimistic that Milo will have an immediate impact on consumers. Through “buzz” advertising and efficient distribution, Milo will continue the tradition of brand equity maintained at Nestlé. Although the economy in the United States is currently subpar, we believe this is a perfect time to introduce our product to a new marketplace. Many young individuals are in desperate need for a healthy alternative to the high-calorie, ultra-sugary beverages that have come to dominate...

Summary/Response

...Christopher Lejuez Franken Summary David Zinczenko states that “If ever there were a newspaper headline for Jay Leno’s monologue it would say that; kids’ taking on McDonald’s this week, suing the company for making them fat. Meaning that people are trying to sue for something they did to themselves. Zinczenko also questions, whatever happened to personal responsibility? When David was growing up he claims that he was also a fast-food patron. He was a typical mid – 1980’s latchkey kid. His parents weren’t in any relationship with each other, with his mother working long hours, by the time she reached home it had probably passed lunch and dinner. So David had no other choice but buy inexpensive from fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut. By the age of 15 David was already more than 200 pounds. He then began to change the way he ate after joining the Navy Reserves when he was in college. David believed that most of the teenagers who lived like the way he did won’t turn their lives around, because they’re under the golden arches to a most likely fate of lifetime obesity. It states that before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder. Today there are 30 percent more of childhood cases of diabetes in this country. David suggests that no one should eat more than one meal from any fast food restaurant in one day. He also guarantees that if you drive down any thoroughfare you will see a McDonald’s restaurant...

Bsd115

...BSD113 ECONOMICS ASSESSMENT 2: RESEARCH ESSAY Writing your research summary Your writing style needs to be clear and efficient . Some key advice would be: • remember structure in writing: introduce, discuss and conclude • use short sentences – long sentences lose the reader • one argument/idea per paragraph • but be careful how you think about one argument/idea – a paragraph stretching over two pages is NOT acceptable so look for natural breaks, sub-arguments/ideas • nor will a paragraph with only one or two sentences look right, so think about how to combine some points (see comments below). This assessment is a formal academic piece of writing. The words and language style you use will convey this. Language used should be appropriate. Things to avoid include informal language, shorthand or colloquialisms. A short checklist of advice would include: • use “do not” instead of “don’t” • write in the third person, ie avoid using personal pronouns. For example, “Research shows that...” rather than “I think that...”. Descriptions should be quantified and/or relative to a comparable benchmark. For example: • Instead of saying “there was a massive increase in young people’s drinking” you would phrase it as “young people’s drinking increased by X% over the period (include citation of where your evidence came from)”. Tables and figures in themselves do nothing to enhance an argument unless they are clear AND explained...

Introduction Washing Machine is one of the most common household appliances in the UK, with many global brands sharing, such as Hotpoint, Bosch, Beko and LG etc. Whirlpool is one of them with a range of washer and dryer products. Even though these global brands compete in other home appliance sectors as well, washing machine marketing competition seems less fierce than other short life appliances. The market share of Whirlpool's washing machine can be calculated either by value of sales of customer possession. Graph 1(Westgarth, 2014) showed the market shares of several brands in the UK market by value. It is clear that Whirlpool only counted 3%, which is the lowest, only one tenth of the market leader Hotpoint. Graph 2(Westgarth, 2014) illustrate another picture of...

Management Report Report Coffe Mate

...Executive summary: Coffee-Mate is the market leader for coffee creamer in the UK market; it holds 55% of the market share. However, a high market penetration and a recent increase of Coffee-Mate’s competitors’ market share have led to a questioning on the brand’s future. Several tools are used to describe and precise the competitive environment of the brand. The BCG analysis of the brand’s product portfolio highlights two issues: • the uncertain future position of the current Star product: Coffee-Mate, and • an interesting opportunity for the Coffee-Mate Lite product. This Question Mark product is present in a high growth market and could be shifted to a star position. The environmental analysis, through the use of the SWOT tool, led to a clearer vision of Coffee Mate’s areas of competence and the areas that have to be improved. Coffee-Mate’s is a strong brand with a large advertising budget providing quality (and healthy with Coffee-Mate Lite) products. These strengths appear to be useful for breaking Coffee-Mate’s bad image of distress and poor taste product. An analysis of the customer’s market segmentation, which divides the market in 5 consumers sections leads to a distinction between two different buying behaviours: • cost constrained consumers who base their buying decision on prices; and • a group of customers called “premium”, who are prepared to pay a premium price for quality products. These BCG, SWOT and customer segmentation tools provide information about...

Icebreaker

...Communication and Icebreaker Exercises Two Truths and a Lie Time Required: 15-30 minutes Start out by having every team member secretly write down two truths about themselves and one lie on a small piece of paper – Do not reveal to anyone what you wrote down! Once each person has completed this step, allow 10-15 minutes for open conversation – much like a cocktail party – where everyone quizzes each other on their three questions. The idea is to convince others that your lie is actually a truth, while on the other hand, you try to guess other people‟s truths/lies by asking them questions. Don‟t reveal your truths or lie to anyone – even if the majority of the office already has it figured out! After the conversational period, gather in a circle and one by one repeat each one of your three statements and have the group vote on which one they think is the lie. You can play this game competitively and award points for each lie you guess or for stumping other players on your own lie. This game helps to encourage better communication in the office, as well as it lets you get to know your coworkers better. The One Question Ice Breaker Exercise Time Required: 15-20 minutes This icebreaker not only gets coworkers talking to each other, but it also gets them working with one another. It‟s quite simple: the leader gets to decide the situation the question will pertain to. Example situations include babysitting, leading the company, or being married. After pairing participants into teams...
