What is the internet? How is it used in today’s life? The internet allows millions of computers to connect billions of people all around the world. As with anything else the internet comes with many pitfalls; although it has made humans more productive in a shorter amount of time, it has also has made some humans lazy. The need for reading, writing and vocal communication has diminished since the 1980’s, when the internet was created. Many people like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Larry Page have used the internet to innovate and create revenue. However, with any form of business there must be vendors and consumers; on the internet the consumer can buy products, enjoy entertainment, and socialize with others from the comfort of his or her …show more content…
Dr. Victoria L. Dunkley has done research that excessive screen time does damage the brain. When parents are warned about the dangers of screen time for their children: some parents take precaution and set certain time for television in the home, while other parents rationalize that it is a part of their children’s culture or that video games and television keep their children safe and out of trouble. If these parents allow children to be consumed by technology and games the internet will become more increasingly intertwined with our daily lifestyles as a society. These children will also grow to become the leaders of tomorrow: our police, firefighters, senators, judges, and even presidents. The operative word in Dr. Victoria’s study is “excessive”, the innovation of technology and the internet isn’t damaging when it is done in balance, actually it extremely helpful and saves a lot of …show more content…
After reading the article I arrived at the conclusion that a person could allow google to make them become lazy; this laziness can result in the loss of brain cells. Consequently the person would become “stupid”. Dr. Victoria found that multiple hours of television and computers will cause certain tissues of the brain to depreciate in size and volume. The main areas of the brain affected by the excessive access to technology is the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is a part of the cerebrum; this area of the brain is responsible for problem solving, spontaneity, memory, language, judgement, and social and sexual behavior. I personally believe that the deterioration of the frontal lobe has a correlation with the rate of autism in America. Today 1 in 68 children have autism, and in the year 2005 1 in 110 had autism and in the year 2000 1 in 150 had the ailment. You can see obviously see the correlation between autism and technology. The CDC first began to observe autism in the year 2000, the first crop of children that were born in 1992 only had 1 in 150 ratio for autism. However, you can see that with the evolution and innovation of technology the ratio continues to rise. The children that were born in the year 2002 have an even higher rate at 1 in 68, this is no surprise considering that those children were raised during the same year the Play Station 2 was released.
