My fellow colonists, we are gathered here this morning to discuss the association with our homeland, Great Britain. We shall not engage in a lawless civil war against them. The spark has been ignited, and the flames have spread across our minds and those of all colonists, poisoning our thoughts, and causing us to taste the perilous idea of independence. In the significant pile of rubble that will be the oblivion of battle, our fathers, sons, brothers, and friends will be lost as specks of powerless dust. As Joseph Galloway said in his speech to the Continental Congress in 1774, "...you wish to avoid a war with Great Britain, which must terminate, at all events in the ruin of America." He has not, as they claim, deprived anyone of freedom, but has instead given us generous opportunities. Foremost, the king has never deprived anyone of freedom, because he never granted it to us. When we came to the colonies, we sought independence, but the king never granted promises of religion or liberty from the government. He saw this as a business chance. Our leader assumed that we were only here to serve our nation, the proper thing to do. Propitiously, we have been granted the honor of residing in this phenomenal land, filled to the brim with opportunity and resource. By gathering these goods, we can increase our personal wellbeing along with that of Great Britain. As citizens under a social contract, this is our duty and responsibility. Hence, we shall not show anger toward the king because we are demanding assets that he has never agreed to offer
