In Excerpt 1 “Stupidity in Conservation”, Wendell Berry explains his perspective on animal factories and the negative effects they have on the animals and environment. Being that he is an environmental activist and farmer, his article is meant to educate and persuade his readers to examine our food sources, and knowing what occurs in animal factories. By mentioning the cost of food and transportation of animals, Berry is showing farm animals cost less to maintain. Because he is a farmer, his argument is taken seriously as he has experience with these animals and how they are raised, fed and maintained in farms.
