Causes and Prevention of Burnout in Human Services Staff

Of course being employed and working can have its perks such as financial gain and interactive aspects; but here we will take a look at the other side of working and that is the subject of “Burnout” which is something that can really cause us much strife!
Burnout on the job consists of the results that the experience of working leaves on the body and the mental status of the employee. The employee may run into many situations that begins to take effect on their comfortable zones on the job, leading to exhaustion, anxiety and even fear within the workplace setting. This in turn affects the employees work performance, how they get along with others on the job etc. and could also lead to headache, back ache and other complications, and could eventually lead to the person becoming physically ill due to stress and worry within the work setting. This ordeal can even be projected even after the person is no longer at work but at home also. The burnout aspects can run over into the home environment and become a disruption within the home setting causing stress and loss of control of self and others..
The burnout is derived from improperly ran establishments that makes the employees feel that they have no control and no say within their profession, large work loads causing fatigue, the lack of interest causing boredom, having colleagues that are intimidating and threatening some examples of burnout are: Individual burnout which consists of anxiety and other burnout issues that surround a person, the issues causes various turmoil situations within the person’s life that can lead to them spiraling out of control within their work and social position that could effect their health and relationships.. Also, to date, research examining peer support is still lacking, despite earlier studies show support emanating from co-workers has a significant influence on the transfer of training. Hence, this study attempts to rectify the inadequacies in the literature by examining the effects of supervisory and peer support on the transfer of training. Based on a cross-sectional method, quantitative data was collected from 100 employees working in one of the Malaysian state health departments, with a response rate of 48 percent. The results of multiple regression analysis revealed that supervisory support was not significantly associated with transfer of training, whereas peer support exerted a significant and positive influence on transfer of training. This study responded to the pressing calls for more studies to elucidate the relationship between social support and the transfer of training. The findings contributed to the body of literature by clarifying the nature of relationships between supervisory support, peer support and transfer of training, particularly from the Malaysian workplace perspective.
