Activism is nexessary for survival of democracy freedom after a long struggle and formed a great constitution for making the country a welfare state bringing liberty, equality, fraternity with a view to make its citizens feel free and safe. It has to be ensured that the said values are not dying and the necessity of their healthy growth is being monitored for the survival of a free and vibrant society.
Law and practice are different
Our constitution clearly mentions that every citizen- regardless of gender, caste, creed- shall be equal before law and no discrimination shall be made on such grounds. But the daunting realities have contradictory stories to unfold. India – with its thousands of sub-castes stands divided on the basis of social divisions at every nook and corner. People, children, women are suppressed.
MBA Essay topics: Need of Activism
The need of social uprising arises here. These are the activists who raise a voice against the atrocities and let the world know about the same. They educate the people, garner their support and try to get the wrong doings rectified.
This is the fear of activists that corruption and corrupt practices are catching the attention of people at large. The irregularities committed are being highlighted. Those who are under the watchful eye of activists – which can be media, social networking, NGOs etc. will think twice to go for any corrupt practices.
Activism in fact is the activity that awakens the sleeping people about something going wrong and enlightens them what remedies are to be taken to get the things in order – by themselves, by the arms of constitutional forces – Parliament, Legislative assemblies, executive bodies –administration, government and the Judicia

Social activists in a democracy have to mount a determined offensive over issues affecting all walks of life like corruption, black money, dowry, tribal rights, atrocities on women etc. While social activism has for long been an important part of the world's largest democracy, the trend got a boost from the anti-corruption movement of Shri Anna Hazare, who became the face of India's war on corruption. Hazare fasted in Delhi thrice, forcing the government to take steps to unveil an independent body with powers to investigate and prosecute corrupt officials. Although the “Jan Lokpal Bill” is still to be fully operational, the Lokpal Bill has since been passed by the Government bowing to the demands of social activism.
Social activism gets instant support
Social activisms garner support of the masses for any just cause through media, social networking sites, Internet forums and SMSs. A rople get injured and there is a loss of national property as well. This in fact is detrimental to the survival of democracy.
The movements whether in Capital or in small towns and cities mark the dawn of a new revolution in India.
The intervention from social activist fills a vital vacuum in the public awakening.
We must sustain the movement till the change we are fighting for is there. Other-wise, relying on this symbolism becomes dangerous for further awakening in a society.

Survival

...confronted with an unexpected survival situation man has the potential to overcome many challenges, beat incredible odds, and come out a survivor. But just what is survival anyway? Survival is the art of surviving beyond any event. To survive means to remain alive; to live. Survival is taking any given circumstance, accepting it, and trying to improve it, while sustaining your life until you can get out of the situation. And most importantly, survival is a state of mind. Survival depends a great deal on a person's ability to withstand stress in emergency situations. Your brain is without doubt your best survival tool. It is your most valuable asset in a survival situation. It isn't always the physically strong who are the most effective or better at handling fear in emergency situations. Survival more often depends on the individual's reactions to stress than upon the danger, terrain, or nature of the emergency. To adapt is to live. Mental skills are much more important than physical skills in survival situations. A person's psychological reactions to the stress of survival can often make them unable to utilize their available resources. You most likely won't use your physical skills if you don't have a positive mental attitude. One definitely must be in the proper frame of mind to survive an unplanned survival situation. Attitude or psychological state is most certainly number one. It is undoubtedly the most important ingredient of survival. With the proper attitude almost...

Survival

...2 Week Survival List * Food – Can and Boxed goods * Coffee * Dog Food and treats * Potty Pads in case the dog can’t go outside * Lighter to start fire * Radio and batteries along with a CB Radio * Flashlights the kind you crank to generate a charge * Batteries * First Aid Kit for myself and my dog * Ammo for self defense * Candles for light but to also generate heat in smaller rooms * Manuel Can Opener * Gas * Water * Portable grill with propane tanks * Generator for a power source The contents above are things that I thought would be important to surviving two weeks without power and potentially being locked inside due to an emergency situation. I have most of these items in the apartment already. Things I would need to add would be a portable grill and propane tanks along with gas and a generator. The stove in my apartment is electric so I would have a problem cooking without some sort of a power source or portable propane grill. If the dog was unable to go outside I would need to use potty pads which would not be a fun experience but things can be flushed. I would need to get some small candles for lighting purposes but also to create heat. You use them in smaller rooms by taking 4 small candles and placing them in a bread tin and taking two ceramic flower pots and placing them upside down over top of the candles which will in turn make your set up a small ceramic...

Survival Analysis

...STAT 572 Survival Analysis HW7 Problem: Data set: WHAS, Covariates: AGE, SEX, MITYPE. Perform survival regression. 1. Data Description. In this case, there is one continuous variable (AGE), and two categorical variables (SEX, MITYPE). We are studying how these three predicators affect patients’ survival time. For SEX, Male=0 and Female=1. For MI Type of patients, there are three values: 1 | Q-Wave | ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) | 2 | Not Q-Wave | non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) | 3 | Indeterminate | | Table 1.1 MI type explanation 2. Variable Analysis Since AGE is a continuous variable, to be convenience, we make it as categorical variable CAGE using 25%, 50% and 75% quantile at FSTAT=1. Using PROC UNIVARIATE to decide the cut point as follows: Variables | 25% Quantile | 50% Quantile | 75% Quantile | AGE | 64 | 72 | 80 | Table 2.1 Quantiles Cut Point for AGE Thus, all the variables are categorical, such that we can use the LIFETEST to test if different levels of covariates have the same effect on the survival curve. We are doing hypothesis testing for each predictor: H0:SSEX=0=SSEX=1 vs. H1:Not H0 H0:SMI=1=SMI=2=S(MI=2) vs. H1:Not H0 H0:SCAGE=0=SCAGE=1=SCAGE=2=S(CAGE=3) vs. H1:Not H0 First, we will test the equality over SEX, and compare the KM curve using LIFETEST and PHREG. Test | Chi-Square | DF | Pr > Chi-Square | Log-Rank...

Survival and Sacrifice

...War usually tells us a story that is about death, violence, brutality and tragedy faced by the soldiers that are sent to the battlefield. However, war doesn’t only tell that story, but rather looks at the survival and sacrifices that soldiers must face in order to survive – and uncovers the true reality of war. This can be seen in selected stories from Tim O’Brien’s novel the things they carried and Wilfred Owen’s WWI poem Dulce Est decorum. Through the individual stories the man I killed and the things they carried, we are able to explore how the author struggles to deal with the effects of war, surviving through the guilt and heartache of expected murder and sacrificing individual dreams in order to keep his team safe. Similarly, Owen’s poem explores how individuals have to survive through the ghastly environments associated with war at the cost of individual lives. Both texts reveal how men at war are forced to sacrifice their hopes and dreams in order to survive the demands of war. In Tim O’Brien’s novel, the things they carried, the composer gives us an insight into the mindset and the emotional depth of soldiers in war, and the difficult sacrifices needed to make in order to survive. The theme of sacrifice is most evident in the chapter the things they carried, as the main character Jimmy Cross faces a moral dilemma; to either sacrifice his dreams, or to sacrifice the safety of his team, after the death of Ted Lavender in which he felt responsible for. The quote “He had...

Survival Notes

...Lecture 12: Introduction to Survival Analysis In many biomedical studies, the outcome variable is a survival time, or more generally a time to an event. We will describe some of the standard tools for analyzing survival data. Most studies of survival last a few years, and at completion many subjects may still be alive. For those individuals, the actual survival time is not known – all we know is how long they survived from their entry in the study. Similarly, certain individuals may drop out from the study or be lost to follow-up. Each of these cases is said to be censored, and the recorded time for such individuals is their time until the censoring event. Example: HPA staining for breast cancer survival We consider data from a retrospective study of 45 women who had surgery for breast cancer. Tumor cells, surgically removed from each woman, were classified according to the results of staining on a marker taken from the Roman snail, the Helix pomatia agglutinin (HPA). The marker binds to cancer cells associated with metastasis to nearby lymph nodes. Upon microscopic examination, the cancer cells stained with HPA are classified as positive, corresponding to a tumor with the potential for metastasis, or negative. It is of interest to determine the relationship of HPA staining and the survival of women with breast cancer. The survival times in months Ti and staining results (xi = 0 for negative and xi = 1 for positive) for the 45 women are presented in the following table. Also included...

Zombie Survival Guide Book Report

...Zombie Survival Guide The Zombie Survival Guide is a very excellent book. People think its only about zombies but that is wrong, it can also teach you life saving skills. Like if you had to live on your own in the woods this tells you how to start fires, how not to be seen. How to prepare, what to have, and what not to have. Teaches you how to make supplies, warning signs of situations, and what to avoid. The conflict of the story is that a zombie apocalypse breaks out, and this book helps you to survive. And this book is a list of do’s and don’ts. Everyone needs to know how to preserve, prepare, and execute; whether it’s zombies, dogs, or people. No one knows what can happen so saing there is no such thing and I don’t need to prepare are vital life changing mistakes. What happens if you wreck your car in the middle of nowhere and you have no knowledge of what to do? People say oh your smart you’ll be fine, but that’s because they think oh it won’t happen to me or I think I know everything I need to. But that’s where ignorance has gotten to people’s brains. Just because I’ve camped in my back yard and lived means I can do it in the middle of nowhere and chances are those people are going to die. Now compare that person to me if I had the book. Who do you think would live longer? The person that survived a child attack for the last smore at a bonfire, or the guy with the book of how to survive in the wild during a time of devastation and anarchy? I’ll leave it to you to decide...

Survival

...Survival Fishing A few methods for survival fishing There are any number of ways to fish but when you are in a survival situation you wont have the luxury of sitting on the river bank all day with a pole in your hands. These are a few suggestions that might help in the coming times. Traps: There are several trap designs that work. I am sure you will be able to construct one that will work for you. Take some "chicken wire" and form a tube about 16 inches in diameter. You can make it square, if you want, but a tube is easier. Using wire or such, you will need to sew the seam of the tube. Also sew one end shut in such a way that you can open fairly easy. Then cut a "mouth" out of a square of the chicken wire. You will need to form a cone that fits into the other end of the "tube". The smaller end points into the tube. The smaller end should be small enough to allow fish to swim through but not big enough to let them swim back out. This kind of trap needs to have bait put inside to attract the fish. If you can find a small creek that fish usually swim up, place the trap with the mouth facing downstream and block access of the rest of the creek so that all fish will have to swim into the trap. [pic] You can make the trap out of anything. The Indians used to make them out of sticks. The fish can be left in the trap if there are too many for you to eat at one time. This way you could have fresh fish anytime that you needed them. You can leave them in the trap for a week or so...

Survival

...Gone with the Wind is a well written novel that takes place in an important time in America’s history. There are four major characters, Rhett, Scarlett, Melanie and Ashley, who has to survive through a catastrophe. Some southern do survive the Civil War and Reconstruction, however others do not. I agree with Leila Gemme. The major theme of the novel is survival. Mitchell has portrayed this by the adaptation of the characters. Scarlett and Rhett are survivors as they learn to adapt to the aftermath of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Scarlett tried to rebuild Tara by working on the plantation. She hopes the cottons and crops will make her become the once affluent lady that she was. However, the plan was futile. After she married Frank Kennedy and learned about business, she immediately seizes the opportunity to get into the lumber trade business. Since the Old Southern society has fallen, Rhett saw this as a chance to make profit and money. “What most people don’t seem to realize is that there is just as much money out of changing a wilderness into a civilization” (Mitchell, 196). Rhett makes load of money by blockading and speculating. Ashley fails to survive the war. When the war ended, he struggles to adapt to the new environment. “God knows he tries his best but he warn’t cut out for farmin’ and he knows it as well as I do” (Mitchell, 648). Even when Scarlett gave him a mill to manage, we see that he is a failure at it. He does not have the audacity to discipline the convict...

Survival of the Fittes

...Ryan Cassity Professor Jeffries ENGL 012, Paper 2 March 24, 2015 Survival of the Fittest Life is hard and often times filled with tough challenges and difficult situations. In the past, African Americans were subjected to the tortures of slavery and isolation from mainstream America during the 18th and 19th centuries. Meanwhile, the harsh reality of life faced by African Americans is seen today with an increase in homeless people living on the streets. While some people look down on people they consider undesirable or inferior, one aspect of a person’s character that can never be questioned is their will to survive. Furthermore, survival in life requires a “never quit, never die” mentality that enables a person to keep fighting to realize a dream. “I, Too” and “Crusader Rabbit” suggest that survival requires courage, desire, and faith. In the poem “I, Too,” Langston Hughes portrays a black man bound into slavery who knows deep down in his heart that he “too” is part of America and is entitled to all the rights and freedoms that America itself stands for and represents. While held captive as a servant, the black man displays courage through his refusal to be recognized as an inferior human being. As Hughes notes, “I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes, But I laugh, And eat well, And grow strong” (Hughes 2-7). The black man will not allow ignorance and neglect to destroy his pride. The black man’s mindset and spirit...

Survival of the Fittest

...Survival of the Fittest The most basic reality of evolution is survival of the fittest. For millions of years, only the most capable members of any given species will survive and proceate, while the weaker ones will not. This harsh but undeniable reality is also true for humans. Since the existance of the first human beings, limited resources meant that only the strongest succeeded in the race for survival. This undeniable fact means that all human beings have competition inscribed in their DNA. No matter how selfless an action may appear, human nature is inevitably governed by self-interest. Evidently this does not sound very nice from a philosophical viewpoint. It would be much more noble to be inspired by an interest in the welfare of others rather than one´s own. This vision of a ""selfless"" human nature is the foundation of many currents of thought, namely marxism, where an ideal human community is envisioned and where people do not seek their own welfare as a basic objective. However, history has shown that even in this kind of ""ideal"" community, people still seek their own welfare, and leaders are more interested in increasing their own posessions than in achieving equality for all. This had lead to the development of economic systems that are based on human beings´self interest. Because men and women inevitably search for their own fulfillment, the most effective system has proven to be one like the market economy, where each person´s search for their own benefit...
