Many will agree that Facebook is much sweeter than Myspace. I had my first taste of Facebook a few years ago, and just like honey. It sticks to anyone who enters the site. I was addicted to the games almost immediately, I found myself logging in and out nine times a day. I enjoyed the games, posting my pictures for comments by friends and looking at what they were posting themselves; a new hobby for me was in full effect. It was great being able to do these things and more on
Facebook, but the best part was being able to type in my daily status. It felt great knowing my list of friends were paying attention to what I had to say, especially since I was ignored before Facebook existed. I enjoyed typing “good morning my facelookerz” or “workbound gotta make that paper.”
Facebook was my therapy; the second I would log on, the problems in my daily life were completely blocked . Everything was great--until I had the desire to locate classmates from my childhood. I wanted to locate classmates who attended Alexander Burger J.H.S. in New York with me. It was aggravating how much time was spent trying to locate them; there were at least two-hundred students my senior year. Looking them up became a frustrating task that will never be completed. It didn’t matter that I was typing their first name, last name, city, state and the name of the middle school; the search engine was not reading me correctly. I desperately wanted to reunite with them and I wanted to reminisce the three years we studied together, but I really wanted to know what life had handed them. I was so upset at Facebook that at times I would log off the site, shut down my computer and curse the famous name “Facebook”. The search button was visible to my beautiful brown eyes, but my classmates weren’t.
Facebook needed surgery--and fast.

I read an article in the New York Times regarding restructuring the Facebook search engine. This article put a smile on my face, hooray; sweet as honey. My first thought was “about time,” and I know some things take time. I want you to keep in mind that this is not a regular site like Myspace. As soon as anyone enters Myspace they can see it’s only about designing their profile page. Facebook is a site where people come together, friends keep in touch just like me. Families who are spread apart in the
United States are still being part of their daily lives. It doesn’t matter that a cousin is in or an aunt is in
Florida, Facebook keeps the family together. Posting a birthday video or wedding pictures help keep a family member involved in some way. Facebook helps us continue to make precious memories that we take for granted at times. I was not able to spend time with my nephew on his first birthday, but seeing the video that my sister posted last month made me feel as if I were in Florida celebrating with them.
Seeing my nephew sitting next to his birthday cake was a priceless moment for me. Sadly, I do not have any family members living in Philadelphia. My family is spread apart in many places around the world. I miss them very much, especially my cousin who just moved to
Germany three months ago; all thanks to the United States Marines. Every Saturday we post a few videos and we are still involved in each other’s lives. Instead of playing Scrabble or Monopoly, we play internet games that are provided by Facebook. If it weren’t for Facebook my cousin and I would not be able to do these things on a weekly basis; it keeps our bond strong and unbreakable. I wish Facebook were around when my aunt was in the Army. I went into a deep depression because she was serving in
China.

Facebook is a high-demand Internet Company. The article in the New York Times regarding
Facebook’s clearly states that it’s mission was to communicate better with their customers, restructuring the search engine was the perfect way to do it. Facebook wanted to restructure the search engine so it would be easier to locate anyone or anything. Since the restructure, the search engine understands twenty- five close synonyms to the word “student” and two-hundred seventy-five thousand different ways to ask about the word. The main intention was to have the search engine go from reading “robospeak” to the
“natural intuitive language” we speak and type. Facebook’s new engine restructure will keep their current customers longer and bring new customers to the site because of this restructure. I say ”job well done Facebook, keep up the awesome work.” If I am still logging in to Facebook years later, they are doing something right. My mother just started using Facebook; unbelievable because she is always complaining about modern technology. My mother is the type of woman who complains about everything. Seeing mother’s happy status and her beautiful pictures on a daily basis, bring me nothing but joy. Eventually, I know I will be logging in nine times a day again. Especially since I now know they restructured the search engine. So, goodbye
‘robospeak’-- they should have given you a restraining order a long time ago; you are no longer welcomed at Facebook. Oh yeah, sweet as honey.

...In this poem, Sylvia Plath expresses a desire to be in control. She feels she has to deal with a dangerous situation. At first she is not in control. She panics. She has a debate with herself and then she makes a calm decision. Silvia Plath wrote this poem in seven five-line stanzas followed by a single line. On one level Plath is simply recalling a personal incident. The story of the poem concerns a task with a bee box. In the first stanza she states that it looks like ‘square’, like a midget’s coffin, heavy and noisy: ‘such a din in it’. The word ‘coffin’ suggests death. The overall description of the bee-box is strange and disturbing. In the second stanza, the bee box both frightens and attracts Plath. She stares in at the bees through a little wire grid. The box is ‘locked’ because its contents are ‘dangerous’. Yet Plath ‘can’t keep away from it’. She examines the box and considers opening it. But she is faced with the threat that what is inside may injure her. Yet, she feels she has to 'to live with it overnight'. In the third stanza, she regards the bees as angry slaves that seek release and revenge: ‘Black on black, angrily clambering’. Through the wire grid she sees darkness. She imagines the bees are like army divisions of blackness that she associates with ‘the swarmy feeling of African hands’. She is in a state of alarm. In the fourth stanza, the buzzing noise puts her off releasing the bees. She fears their bee language and now regards them as an aggressive...

...Savino Brusco AP English Period 3 February 8, 2015 Gardner Writing Exercise 27 The Adventures of a Honey Badger For a very long time the honey badger was just a very ordinary animal. It was not until one badger, Melvin, decided it was time for a change that the honey badger came to be. Melvin was a modest fellow; he lived in a nest he built himself from lumber and clay with his beloved wife, Betsy, and his two children. This particular year it was especially tough for Melvin to forage honey from the hives. The bees had grown stronger and the painful stings kept Melvin from obtaining honey. Melvin began to become depressed, longing for sweet, sweet tender honey. Growing hungrier and hungrier as the days rolled on Melvin began to have difficulty finding food and fending off his family from the vicious venomous snakes. One night Melvin woke in the mist of the night by a terrifying sliver of snakes all around his nest. As they did every night the snakes tried to break into the nest. Melvin held his dear family close in his arms and prayed as hard as he could to the great Gods of Olympus, in hope of living to see another day. The next day, the snakes moved on, without breaking into Melvin’s threshold. It was only a matter of time before the walls of his nimble house would give in to the strength of the snakes. Melvin decided, for the sake of his family’s survival, that he had to speak to Zues, the Great God of the Animal Kingdom, to urge him to restore balance to living...

Glycemic Index for Sweetners

...Glycemic Index for Sweeteners The glycemic index for sweeteners is a function of three things: 1. The amount of carbohydrate present.  2. The type of carbohydrate present.  3. The presence of other substances (soluble fiber for example) that slow metabolism of carbohydrates.  Glucose has a glycemic index (GI) of 100 and fructose is 25. Sucrose (Ordinary sugar) which is made up of a combination of these two has a GI of 65. The search for a low GI natural sugar based sweetener is somewhat futile as they all contain combinations of the above, or similar sugars. Although fructose has a fairly low GI , it has other harmful effects and must be considered unsafe to take in large quantities. Agave Syrup has a low GI because it is mainly fructose. Agave has been delisted and banned by theGlycemic Research Institute of Washington DC because serious side effects were observed in clinical trials. Coconut Palm Sugar contains mainly sucrose and one would expect a GI of about 65. However it scores well in the glycemic index for sweeteners list. Tests have indicated a GI of only about 35. This may be partly because of other substances in it such as soluble fiber. However, the testing was very limited. More testing may well produce a higher GI. Yacon Syrup, scores best in the Glycemic Index for Sweeteners that are sugar based. It derives it's sweetness from Fructo-oligosaccharides, a type of sugar with a very low GI. It is probably the only truly raw, organic, natural, low calorie, and...

Natural Sweetenters

...rise in popularity in the U.S. didn’t begin until around 2003. Now it’s commonly used as an alternative to sugar, honey, or maple syrup for cooking, baking, and sweetening everything from coffee to oatmeal. Agave nectar (or syrup) is produced from the agave plant – the same plant used to make tequila. It tastes similar to honey with a hint of molasses and is manufactured by extracting the juice from the plant’s core, which is then filtered, heated or treated with enzymes and concentrated until it becomes a syrupy liquid. Proponents of this natural sweetener claim that it’s a healthy alternative to sugar, honey, and other sweeteners because of its low glycemic index. It’s advertised as ideal for people who are watching their weight or folks with diabetes who are working to lower their blood sugar levels. But before you add agave nectar to your grocery list, here’s what the heck you need to know. Agave nectar contains up to 90 percent fructose. That’s significantly more than table sugar, which is 50 percent fructose (and 50 percent glucose) once it’s broken down by your body. Agave’s high fructose content gives it advantages and disadvantages. The good part first: Because fructose has a low glycemic index, agave doesn’t cause your blood sugars to spike as rapidly after eating it, which means it can temper the sugar rush that occurs after eating something sweet. And even though agave and white sugar contain approximately the same number of calories, agave is markedly sweeter...

Birthday Cake History

...birthday is happening everyone is always excited for the cake, but why is the cake so important to us, how did the tradition of the birthday cake get started and what is the deal with the birthday candles? It is said that back in the time of the Greeks they would make these sweet beads and top them off with honey and bring them to the temple and offer them to the gods. In an article that I found this is what they understand “Cakes were initially called by the name ‘plakous’ by the Greeks, which is a similar word to ‘flat.’ These were a combination of nuts and honey. Besides, they also made a cake called "satura," which was a flat heavy cake. It is also believed that the Greeks offered round shaped cake to the Goddess of Moon called Artemis[1].” In another article it talks about the Romans ad how they brought cakes into play, “During Roman times, 'cakes' were served at special birthdays. However, these cakes did not resemble contemporary cakes in the least. They were simply flat rounds made with flour containing nuts, leavened with yeast, and sweetened with honey. In early Europe, the words for cake and bread were virtually interchangeable; the only difference being that cakes were sweet while bread was not[2].” Romans also had a different name and cake that they used for there birthdays that they celebrated, but as the same as the Greeks they offered a celebration for there gods. “They were even called "libum" by the Romans and were primarily used as an offering...
