Sensormatic Case Study

...Sensormatic from operating at its fullest potential. Sensormatic must decide if it is prudent to backwards integrate plastic production. Mr. Assaf’s relationship with plastic supplier Canon Plastics provides him the opportunity to acquire an existing operation. If Mr. Assaf chooses backwards integration, he must then decide if it is preferable to acquire Canon Plastic’s operations over the purchase of new machines for Sensormatic’s Deerfield Beach plant. Through careful analysis and consideration of the data provided in this case study the recommended course of action is to proceed with the backwards integration of plastic production through the use of new machinery at Sensormatic’s Deerfield Beach location. While risk mitigation is important for the future of Sensormatic, the upside opportunity of this purchase outweighs the potential risk of the investment. The problem of delayed orders will be mitigated through the elimination of the inability of acquiring plastic parts for production. In-house plastic production will give Sensormatic a distinct advantage over its competitors Knogo and Checkpoint, and it will allow the company to continue to innovate new products. Sensormatic will have the capability of creating their own plastic molds for any new product or technology. Financial analysis tools including SWOT, Five Forces, and various financial rations strengthen and support this recommendation....

I Don't Know

...Canon Inc. Goro Yoshida was born in Hiroshima; he worked as an apprentice in a company repairing and remodelling motion picture cameras and projectors in 1920. In those days a high-end camera was very expensive, thus not many people can afford it. But he had a chance to disassembling it due to his job requirement. When he disassembled it, he realised that the inside of the camera was not made of anything expensive. This made him unhappy because the cameras were sold at an exorbitant price but there is nothing expensive in it. Thus from there on, he was determined to create an affordable camera for everyone. Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida and Takeo Maeda started a small laboratory dedicated to making high-quality cameras in a simple apartment room in the Roppongi area of Tokyo in 1933. This was also an important stepping stone to the creation of Canon. The three succeeded in building the first prototype, which was named Kwanon after the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. Then in 1935, Japan's first-ever 35 mm focal-plane-shutter camera, the Hanza Canon, was born, marking the origins of the Canon brand. Today, Canon has successfully become one of the giants in the production of photographic equipments. Their core products remained as digital, film cameras and lens production while they expend their business to camcorders, photocopiers, printers, scanners, projectors, calculators, binoculars and as well as their own ink cartridges. Canon has sales and marketing headquarters around the...

...Innovation and quality describes the Canon Inc brand and its development of professional products. “Canon’s HD camcorders, digital SLR cameras, precision lenses, projectors, and professional printers deliver the advanced imaging performance and capabilities that HDTV program producers, broadcasters, ad agencies, filmmakers, and other digital content creators rely on for making dynamic visual media” (Canon Film & Television, 2012) Offering new camera concepts to fundamentally and continuously introduce change in photography is key in aligning the Canon brand and image to be synonymous with reliability, ease in functionality, and quality to the professional consumer and establishing itself as the brand to beat in the digital camera marketplace with its lens technology that can produce super sharp, high-resolution pictures (“Red for still & motion.,” 2011). Canon’s brand dominance and notable achievements separates them from other competitors, such as Fujifilm and RED and with the current competition trend of HD production, Canon will surpass expectations and cavort its dominance over the competition with the long awaited Digital SLR EOS Renegade 3D (Renegade 3D). Canon was first to begin the motion capture craze with their innovative introduction of the seditious Canon EOS 5D Mark II back in 2008 and since then Canon has surpassed the competition with a production development line of cinema EOS model cameras that obtain similar, if not more advanced, digital...

...This case deals with the ethical dilemma that Tobacco manufactures face when selling tobacco products in third world countries. First, there is the ethical dilemma of business versus health. The opening and development of the tobacco business in Third World countries like China, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Africa, is considered against the health consequences of tobacco use which according to an Oxford University epidemiologist, has estimated to cost 3 million lives annually rising to 10 million by 2050 without effective tobacco control program A second ethical dilemma is employment versus impoverishment, where the opportunities for work in the tobacco industry are considered against a background of malnutrition. Liquidity: The company has very strong ratios helping the company to do well. Dell’s current ratio and quick ratio are at 1.47 and 1.40 respectably, this similarity between one and the other is a reflection of their very low inventory compared to the amount of sales that the company has, also influencing the net working capital ratio of only 0.23.
