Introduction:
As we all know, interconnected computer networks globally is a internet, where computer connects to the internet allows an pathway for sharing an information through a large number of servers and many other computers. Whereas, simply, internet portal is a just a website that assemble several functions like news, reference information, history, ideas and also allows an access to database with a single unified web interface. They are generally used by customer oriented companies to accommodate facility of access to huge quantity of different information for customers and employees. Functionally, interlinked hypertext documents and World Wide Web (WWW) are extensively accessible information in the internet.
Now, going through the given task, I would like to analyze the advancement of the internet portal of Hoyts i.e. http://www.hoyts.com.au/.
At first, briefly looking at the history of Hoyts, In the beginning of 20th century, Hoyts started its business as a Hoyts circus, later started showing sort films on Saturday at Georges Hall in Bourke street, Melbourne (later name was modified to Hoyts esquire). Currently Hoyts operate 450 screens around 40 Australian and 10 New Zealand cinema complexes, combining its place among top three major exhibitors being second largest cinema in Australia.
The main purpose of this report is to introduce the IT department of an organization i.e. Hoyts cinemas. It also helps to know about the different method of data gathering while collecting the information about that business organization. Information system is the process of collecting the data about the business which includes about the information about the heads of the business, who are the stakeholders, about the person who does the planning, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance. These are the list of the person which are used to updates the information about the business.

Q1:
Being a customer oriented business house, to be in a business should focus on the customer priority, customer flexibility and customer management. Organization also must address security management, data management, support service and risk management. As Hoyts seems to be success in addressing all those above mention management to be in business. As analyzing those management in detail I got:
Customer management: Objective of Hoyts is to give the fully entertainment to the customer. As for the customer flexibility, Hoyts runs many different movies in different times so that customer can watch their favorite movies in their desirable time. Keeping in mind, in current world people are too busy, most of them won’t get time to buy ticket at counter, for customer convenient, Hoyts has allow online booking facility through its internet portal.
Security management: Security management is also another topic to be address in a proper way, related to not only the security of the customer but also the security of the whole organization which includes both human resources and physical Security management and well management of the customer needs inside the building boundary, also while watching movie in cinema hall. For this, security cameras, emergencies alarm and emergency phone call booth must be install in every possible areas for the security of the customer as well as organization. AS I can see security camera, emergencies alarm and emergency phone call booth in building periphery. So that management can easily figure out an anticipated accident and the vandalism.
Data management: In this current world, data being a most precious and valuable, must store safely and privately. AS customer’s personal information are stored in a system during booking tickets online or buying at the counter must preserve safely. Customer’s identification like name, date of birth, address, telephone number and the identity card no, credit card number all are customer’s private information which shouldn’t expose in the public that kills organization reputation and goodwill. So data management is very important for this business. And Hoyts preserving all those customer identification safely which helps Hoyts to remain in the business.
Support service: Hoyts has provided online and telephone ticket booking and purchasing service. Either people can buy ticket at the counter.
Risk management: After all managing all those above criteria, if organization fall to manage the risk, could go under loss, so risk management is the main part of the organization. Therefore, in an accurate and suitable way, organization risk should be identified, analyzed, assessed and managed. Most commonly, organization can face market risk, operational risk, customer risk, to address all of those risks; risk management is the most essential task organization must go through.

Q2:
The portal of the organizations is supported by following information system: • ERP (Enterprise resources planning)

• Customer information system

• Business intelligence

Enterprise resources planning (ERP): Integration of the internal and external information system throughout entire organization, sales and services, manage customer relationship etc is done by Enterprise resources planning system. It mechanizes the all activity with the support of the integrated software application that support in the flow of required information throughout all categories business departments and helps to maintain the frequent connection with the outside stakeholders.
Customer information system: Customer information system is the most important part for any business which is used by this Hoyts. Good relationship between the customer and organization is maintained constantly by this Customer information system. Customer information system calculates the total number of customer who watched particular movie and the profit made by specific movie and also helps to solve customer problem.
Business intelligence: It can also be called decision support system because Business intelligence helps or support for the good decision making in the organization whereas it is the computers related technique used to identify, analyzing and extracting the business data. This system uses databases according to the organization requirement.

Q3:
Systematically, I observed all three users that I have chosen for dinner and then movie are describe below:
1st and 2nd users: They prefer the online purchasing for the movie on Hoyts next Saturday. 1st user types www.hoyts.com.au straight away because he is a regular customer of Hoyts while 2nd user find it from the google.com. After that they observed the website of the Hoyts cinemas. They click on (times & tickets) button in the ribbon. After that they select state, and then cinema, 1st user being a Banks town resident he choose Banks town cinema while second user choose Broadway. And then serially, both selected the movie and time session. After that the website requested to sign in the user account for the Hoyts cinema. But he prefers not to sign and click on it. After clicking on that he saw the types of ticket e.g.: adult, child, concession, senior, and student. He had chosen the student ticket, and then he had to recheck the previous record. Then the website asked for his email address, payment method, card no, card name, expiry date. At last his online booking was successful.
3rd user: He prefers telephone purchasing. So he got Hoyts contact number from the internet. After that he made a telephone call to the cinema to book the tickets. Then the person of the customer desk ask few question regarding his name, address, movie that he want to watch and at what time he want to watch that specific movie. After that he asked him how he wanted to do the payment. He did the payment by giving the card name and number. At last his booking was successful from the telephone conversation.
Comparing both ticket booking method, telephone booking was longer than online booking. The online booking just took 3-4 minutes but telephone booking was nearly 10 minutes.
To know about the Hoyts cinema form the depth, I did the research on the websites of the Hoyts cinemas. Through observation and research data gathering techniques I am able to gather all those information.

Q4: I recommended the following improvement for the Hoyts cinemas’ portal after doing the observation and research of the Hoyts internet portal: • Every one still don’t have smart phone, so it would be easy for the customer to locate the exact cinema location if Hoyts cinemas would have added map on the websites. So I recommend to add exact map location for each cinema hall.

• Internet portal should play trailer for each single movie, while it plays for some but would be better if allow for every movie.

• As people want to get something in return, if rewards system is applied more customers can be attracted to the business which directly accelerates the business profit.

• Search engine should be added in the Hoyts internet portal so that people can gather other information and knowledge while booking tockets.

• More information and trailers about the upcoming movies is required.

All cinema don’t have online ticket booking system instead Hoyts have. The analyst should have to consider the following activities to create such functionality: • Firstly, physical process and all the activities of the existing system should be identified.

• Logical business function has to extract that was inherent in each existing physical process.

• Logical business functions have to develop for the approach to be used in the new system.

• The physical processing necessity of the new system has to define.

Analyst should consider all those above mentioned things while implementing the online booking system and also must be capable to convince the stakeholders about the system implementation that must done under given time period, limited resources and with estimated budget decided by stake holders.

Q5:
The activities of the business can be affected by stakeholders in some way. They can be any individual.
Basically, two types of stakeholder exist. • Internal stakeholders

Employees, owners, IT technicians, cinemas staff and customers are internal but most obvious stakeholders. Profitable business is not possible without customer, whereas to handle the business, staffs are most essential part. IT technician helps to fix the problems during the customer and the staff facing the problem while using the portal. • External stakeholders.

Competitors, the neighborhood of the business, the government, and the environment which are independent to that particular business are categories under external stakeholders.

.

Q6:

The data gathering technique used to find out the answers are: 1. Observation and discussions with the users:

During the information gathering, I closely observed my friends who were doing online and telephone ticket booking. Friend who were doing online booking, opened www.hoyts.com.au, and click on “ticket & times” button where they have to select state and cinema and time. After this. They click on “buy” button which leads to sign button where they prefer not to sign in so click on “not to sign in” button which further lead to ticket type page where they choose “adult” ticket and further choose seat number and lastly purchased ticket by providing their card details. During this period I discussed with them about the process of online booking method. While the other friend (3rd user) doing telephone booking, he got a Hoyts cinema contact number from www.google.com.au , he dialed a number (02) 9677 0088 to contact Mount Druitt Hoyts cinema help desk where help desk officer asked him to make a choice for cinema, ticket type and the seat number and asked about his identification and card detail for purchasing. 2. Observation and documentation of business process: During all these process, I was discussing and making important notes of Hoyts business process and also did the documentation.

3. Research on the internet portal of the Hoyts cinemas: Going through all the way to Hoyts’s internet portal, I found Hoyts is missing search engine, cinema map, trailer for each and every movie etc. To gather all those information I searched Hoyts internet portal.

Since prototyping is creating a version of the software, it could be used to test for bugs, and make upgrades as necessary. 3. Suppose the choice is between alternative custom software developers rather than prewritten packages. What criteria would be appropriate to select and compare among competing bidders for custom development of an application? Define each of these criteria. • Cost – Comparing the cost of developing the same system in-house to cost of purchasing. • Functionality – if the software will meet the function requirements. • Vendor Support – Refers to whether the vendor can provide support, and how much. • Viability of Vendor – How reputable the vendor is, and how long they will continue to be in business. • Flexibility – Refers to how easy it is for you or vendor to customize the package • Documentation – Includes...

Introduction to Business Systems Analysis Student Study Guide

...Introduction to Business Systems Analysis Student Study Guide Section Two Analysis Section Overview 1. List of Objectives • Conducting a system investigation The purpose of the system investigation is to understand the existing system and, based on that understanding, prepare the requirements for the system. Generally the systems analyst will begin by gathering data, and then analyzing collected data. There is no standard procedure for gathering data because each system is unique. But there are certain techniques that are commonly used: written materials, interviews, questionnaires, observation, and measuring. • Determining systems requirements This is the beginning sub-phase of analysis. Techniques used in requirements determination have evolved over time to be more structured and, as we will see in this section, current methods increasingly rely on the computer for support. We will first study the more traditional requirements determination methods and progress to more current methods for collecting system requirements. • Traditional and Modern methods for determining system requirements Traditional requirements determination methods include interviewing, using questionnaires, observing users in their work environment, and collecting procedures and other written documents. Modern requirements determination methods are led by the Joint Application Design (JAD) technique. Other new methods are based upon group support systems, computer-aided systems engineering (CASE)...

According to the website http://searchsoftwarequality.techtarget.com/, the requirement analysis gives same definition. Out of all the definitions that Ive read, this website gives me the best definition. It also mentions further that it involves frequent communication with system users to determine specific feature expectations, resolution...

System Analysis and Design

...Role of Analysts and Designers The primary role of systems analysts and designers is, of course, to produce a computer system solution to a problem that meets the customer’s requirements. This task can easily be so absorbing in itself that there is seemingly no time left over for thinking about the non-technical issues surrounding the introduction of a new IT system, much less for setting up a people project to address them. So even if the people project is not driven by analysts, designers, or even IT managers, it needs their active support. Many of the tasks carried out by analysts in the early stages of an IT development project have outputs that the people project will need to draw on. For example, the process of creating data models and data flow diagrams may raise questions of data ownership, which need to be fed to the people project to resolve, perhaps through a redefinition of rolesand responsibilities or the introduction of a new procedure. Likewise, if systems analysts have done a detailed assessment of costs and benefits, this will give the people project some idea of the messages they can use to sell the new IT system to users and managers. Analysts can also draw on the people project for valuable help in areas such as human–computer interface design, discussed in Chapter 15. The look and feel of the HCI can be one of the most significant factors in determining a user’s response to a system. The people project can help create the conditions in which ...
