According to the article, “Alice Paul Biography,” Paul was born on January 11, 1885 in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Due to being raised by an affluent Quaker family, Paul graduated from Swarthmore College in 1905, and then furthered her education in both New York City and England. During her time in London, Paul joined the women's suffrage movement in Britain, led by Emmeline Pankhurst, in which she learned many of the tactics and personalities that she would then utilize for the women’s suffrage movement in the United States.
The article, “'How long must we wait?' Alice Paul wanted action on votes for women, so she took her demands straight to the top,” mentioned that along with Paul’s experiences as a member in the women’s suffrage movement in Britain, her education in political science also influenced her tactics for the women’s suffrage movement in the U.S.. Paul, unlike many others, believed that president Woodrow Wilson was the key to the implementation of a women’s suffrage amendment. Many were troubled with her obsession with …show more content…
According to the article, “Tactics and Techniques of the National Woman’s Party Suffrage Campaign,” Paul and Lucy Burns, congressional committee members of the NAWSA, constructed a huge suffrage parade on Pennsylvania Avenue that gained extensive amounts of attention. Due to strategic planning, the parade was a huge success. Realizing that suffrage was a ubiquitous demand, the followers marched in distinct groups. These groups were formulated off of occupation (teachers, lawyers, actresses, nurses, librarians, and factory workers). Mothers, college students, and citizens of certain states marched in groups too. The parade also consisted of followers from men’s suffrage leagues. Disgusted by the women, some onlookers battered the women and made harsh remarks which then sparked huge press coverage and even posed a senate
