Dear Downey Unified School District School Board Members,

We find your arrangements to supply water, such as a drinking fountain using tap water, a water dispenser that uses bottled water, or individual bottles of water, for all students superlative. Thank you for granting us with the opportunity to decide amidst a drinking fountain supplied with tap water, the installation of a water dispenser containing bottled water, or the provision of individual water bottles. Based on research, I prefer you provide drinking fountains that tap as the water source. The environmentally responsibility, and affordability of a drinking fountain consisting of tap water makes it the supreme of all the selections.

First of all, on environmental levels, tap water drinking fountains superior the other options. I believe this because, the fountains produce no plastic waste from containers unlike the other two choices. For example, a water cooler uses a large jug atop the container. In addition, the individual bottles also …show more content…
I conclude this because a tap water fountain requires the school to finance the installation and the fee of the water bill. Furthermore, the expense of the fountain costs the least of all the selections. If you settled on one of the other two options the school must invest in the cost of either the large water containers for the dispensers, or the individual bottles. Each of the classes requires about 160 bottles provided for them. This would leave a great expense to pay. Also, the water dispenser most likely needs at least three large water containers for each classroom a day, costing the school a large fee for them and delivery. Likewise, Annie Leonard states,”Bottled water cost 2,000 times more than tap water.” By offering with a tap water drinking fountain, we benefit by gaining an affordable fare for the

Tap Ve Bottle

...Abstract This study attempts to shed some light on the truth as to the differences between bottled and tap water w whether people prefer bottled water due to its assumed health benefits. Whether there are health benefits truly associated with consuming bottled water instead of tap water is yet to be truly determined because expert opinions continue to suggest that “bottled water may be no safer or healthier than tap water” (Baumgartner, 2011, p.1). This study examines the various sentiments behind Americans’ desire for either bottled or tap water by looking at the preferences of a sample of students from a small Midwestern university. Literature Review In nearly every grocery store, convenience mart, office or employment setting, and most homes in America there is a presence of bottled water. If someone was born before the 1990’s, tap water was generally the only source of drinking water that was considered to be consumed daily. Today, bottled water is consumed at a rate very comparable to tap water. “In 2008, 8.67 billion gallons of bottled water were sold in the United States resulting in an average annual per capita consumption of 28.5 gallons” (Sullivan, 2011, p. 10). Among colleagues, friends and family, preferences and beliefs about the purity differences of bottled water and tap water is a widely discussed topic. Although there is an ongoing debate as to whether bottled or tap water is healthier, a topic that cannot be debated is that bottled water consumption has...

...What’s in My Water Bottle? A Question of Environmental Estrogens Janna R. McLean Colorado State University Christy Copeland Keisha Davis Gulad Abdi Lucretia Biery Biology 1308 Professor Childress What’s In My Water Bottle? A Question of Environmental Estrogens The overall topic of Janna R. Mclean’s case study “What’s In My Water Bottle?” revolves around the question of whether or not chemicals used to make plastic containers are a health hazard to humans. A particular focus is placed on whether the chemical ingredient in polycarbonate and polysulfone plastic called Bisphenol A, BPA abbreviated, act as estrogen and effect estrogen levels. Research is continually being conducted since possibly harmful BPA is found in almost 90% of plastic containers ( ). Although many shelved plastic products are labeled BPA-Free, plastic containers still run the risk of leaking harmful BPA into drinking water and food when BPA is broken down by exposure to heat ( ). Research has not yet proven how BPA is harmful; That is to say, definitive results have not shown whether BPA directly causes cancer, or if BPA is a catalyst for cancer cell replication. Regardless of how BPA is harmful, the possibility of poisonous contamination to all plastic exposed products poses a threat to human health and has resulted in case studies like Mclean’s “What’s in My Water Bottle?” Mclean’s case study addresses multiple experiments that are conducted to determine how much BPA is in certain plastics, and...

Bottled Water Industry

...Mark Hancock Environmental Economics Bottled Water Environmental and Economical Effects Introduction Since the early 1990’s American’s have been consuming large amounts of bottled water. Most American’s don’t realize the effects of the bottled water industry on the environment or on their wallet. Individuals believe that bottled water is more pure and of a higher quality than that of their conventional tap water. In reality this is false. We as a country are wasting money on bottled water and harming the environment in the process. Without a change of consumption habits our environment will see some dramatic changes. This is an important environmental and economical issue that will effect future generations as well as the current. Brief History Bottled water has become a part of many Americans life. Perrier started this trend with their introduction of bottled water in the early 1980’s. Телевизор Daewoo Platinum

...Case study Nestle Pure Life Nestle has flown into another storm concerning its approach to marketing in the Third World. Bottled water has been one of the success stories of the past 20 years. Always popularin some European countries such as France and Italy, fears about contamination of water supplies coupled with rising affluence has resulted in exponential growth in the market in countries where previously people were perfectly happy to drink tap water. The growth in the world population, and consequently increasing pressure on freshwater supplies, means that tap water in many countries is either contaminated or (at best) tastes unpleasant owing to residues from the purification system. The problem for many of the firms in the industry has been the cost of purifying and bottling the water; traditional sources of mineral water, such as the Perrier springs, are inadequate to cope with the potential world supply. Nestles answer to the problem is to source the water in China, where bottling costs are low, and rather than use expensive spring water, to purify ordinary tap water. This renders the water safe to drink, but at a fraction of the overall cost of using spring or mineral water. Nestle initially entered the Asian market by buying out local brands. The company now owns over 50 local brands in Asia, and is lobbying governments in Pakistan, Ghana and the Philippines to allow foreign ownership of local companies: In some Asian countries, notably...

...One of the most serious problems that China faces today is water pollution. Beijing, Capital of China, just like many other Chinese cities, it is suffering from high levels of water pollution. A report made by the state of environmental agency concluded that the level of pollution in Beijing’s water sources is not safe. Another investigation made by the Environmental Protection Supervision Center of North China shows that the north Canal, which provides water to more than 70% of Beijing’s total population had a level of pollution that is 95 times higher than what is considered safe. “Zhao Feihong”, a water researcher in Beijing healthcare association states that there is in Beijing over 100 rivers, however only two or three of them are safe to be used for tap water. These and many more reports made, show that the water sources in Beijing are not safe to drink, however, what are the causes and effects of this pollution? Now, I will be discussing the causes and effects of water pollution in Beijing, and how it differs from other mega cities in the world, such as Jakarta, and New York. In addition to that, the lacks of enforcement of environmental...
