Radical formulas have multiple uses in real world applications; they are useful in many real world applications to solve problems throughout numerous industries. Week 3, our assignment is to solve problem 103 on page 605 (Dugopolski, 2012). We will be using the formula and graph provided to see if the Tartan 4100 sailboat is safe for ocean sailing and what the capsize screening value is for this particular boat, this problem has three areas to solve. First, we need to find what the Tartan 4100 capsize screening value is to solve part (a) of this question. We have the displacement, which is 23245 pounds and a beam length of 13.5 feet. C=4(0.035)(13.5) Apply exponents first.
C=(0.14)(13.5) Multiply
C=1.89. This solves for part A of our question of stability for the Tartan 4100 sailboat, our capsize value is 1.89 which is less than two; the Tartan 4100 is safe for ocean sailing by the calculations for capsize screening …show more content…
The final part of the question asks to find the displacement for the Tartan 4100 to be considered safe for ocean sailing. d=(〖4b〗^3/C) We will use this formula to solve for d. d=((4(13.5))/2 )^3 Multiply the variables of the numerator inside the parenthesis. d=(54/2 )^3 At this point we will apply the quotient rule, distribute our cube exponent to the numerator and denominator. d=〖54〗^3/2^3 Using the power of a power rule (54∙54∙54)/(2∙2∙2) d=157464/8 We must simplify our product by division of the numerator by the denominator. d=19863 Pounds. Now we have solved all three parts to the sailboat stability problem for the Tartan 4100 sailboat, we can say that the Tartan 4100 is safe for ocean sailing. The sailboat has a capsize screening value of 1.89 which is less than the 2 specified earlier in the problem, the Tartan 4100 also has a displacement of 19863 pounds which means that Tartan 4100 meets the criteria to be considered safe for ocean sailing. By applying Radical formulas in real world applications we have been able to solve a stability question for a particular sailboat, there are surely other industries that apply these concepts on a daily basis for many other principals in multiple industries as
