Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam usually referred to as Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, is an Indian scientist and administrator who served as the 11th President of India. Kalam was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and completed his aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chennai.
Before his term as President, he worked as an aerospace engineer with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).[1] Kalam is popularly known as the Missile Man of India. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is the man whose efforts are largely responsible for shaping the defence programme of India. He helped in making India self-sufficient in satellite and space technology.
In 2002, he was elected as the President of the country and graced the post until 2007. Kalam's leadership style and vision are not just valued in India but the man commands respect everywhere he goes.

Leadership qualities
On Creativity
Dr Kalam has always emphasized on the importance of creativity and innovation in anything we do. He says that India needs creative leaders rather than managers or commanders.

On Vision
According to Dr Kalam, the most important quality a leader must possess is to have a vision. A person lacking a vision cannot be leader. With His vision he developed The concept of PURA -- which stands for "Providing Urban amenities in Rural Areas".it is about giving a cluster of villages physical, electronic and knowledge connectivity. he believed that connectivity is the key to bridging the rural-urban divide. This will lead to development of villages of india.

On Integrity and Transparency
Everything a leader does should be transparent and high on integrity. For example: during his term of presidentship he returned the Office of Profit Bill to the Parliament. The reason was that he felt there was no transparent system for determining whether a post was an office of profit. That was a major decision. He studied the bill and returned it to the parliament for reconsideration. It created its own dynamic and many criticised him bt he did wht he felt ws right.

On Exploring New Avenues
Dr Kalam says that a leader must have the inclination and then the grit to travel on unexplored paths. He was the project director of rohini satellite and also directed two projects, namely, Project Devil and Project Valiant , which sought to develop ballistic missiles from the technology of the successful SLV programme which showed that he always have thought out pf the box.
On Success and Failure
Dr Kalam has a very idealistic view on success and failure. the leader must know how to manage success, and even more importantly, failure. He says that when failure occurs, a leader should humbly own it and acknowledge it. When success comes, the leader should give credit to all the people who worked for it.
. In 1973 he became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Their goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit but due to some last moments technical problems the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure. And the chairman took took responsibility for the failure bt it would have been a success the credit would be given to whole team. Kalam says That this is the most important trait a leader should posses.
Conclusion:
The above important desicions that he took in his work life both as a scientist and as a president made him a distinguished leader. And am sure that leaders like him will lead india towards development.
