Team sport is sport activities that involve a group of individuals, divided into teams and work together to reach their ultimate goal, usually, the goal refers to win in a match or competition. Common examples of team sport are football, basketball, volleyball and so on.

Team sport relies heavy on members working together effectively. Specifically, in a team, members communicate, solve conflicts and problem and make decisions. On one hand, individually, athletic needs to keep improving themselves through intense trainings. On the other hand, as a team, athletics need to cooperate with each other and achieving the best.

Athletics need to deal different people.
a) Among team members

Corporation is an essential element in team sport. Attitudes can follow after behavior, this means cooperative actions, such as those performed by people on sports teams, feed mutual liking. Such attitudes, in turn, promote positive behavior. Not only will people sometimes stand up for what they believe, they will also to believe in what they have stood up for. However, if cooperative actions in the sports team are disturbed by the separate training sessions, the team members will feel distant from each other thus lead to the lack of confidence and feelings of worry even before the game starts. Mutual liking is important for good team cooperation and performance during the competition, if it cannot be well-established, the consequences will be seen in the results of games.
Usually, a team is formed by recruiting people who are especially strong in that sport, therefore, members tends to come from diverse background, this is particularly true for the world-class sport teams. Working with teammates from other countries and different cultures can be both an opportunity and a challenge. It is challenging because people of different background tends to hold different values or even have stereotype and prejudice towards a member of a particular group . When react with people they feel difference, athletics may use distancing, such that they refuse to interact with that team members, or prevent meaningful and honest interactions. Or they may use denial, so that they pretend not seeing the difference between individuals, this could lead to negative consequence that the target may feel ignore and unimportant. Last but not least, athletics may devaluate others in order to justify the negative feelings towards the differences, which would even lead to anger towards each others. All these will damage the relationship between team members, with no corporation and mutual liking, performance must hindered.

b) The presence of audience
Individual behavior can be influenced by the presence of others, for team sports, the presence of audience can have totally different impacts on different athletes. According to social facilitation theory, when we are being observed, we perform well-learned tasks more quickly and accurately, and unmastered tasks less quickly and accurately. Therefore, skilled athletes often find they are “on” before an audience. What they do well, they do even better when people are watching. However, for those athletes who lack of training or preparation before the game, they may feel nervous in front of the audience and perform worse.

Team Effort: the Communities Created Through Sports

...Hayden Liljenquist ENG 102 Dr. Pegram July 31, 2012 Team Effort: The Communities Created Through Sports Introduction Within today’s society, a number of small, unique communities exist. Communities can range from social, to religious, to occupational. In order to be considered a separate and distinct “community,” the group needs to share common characteristics or interests and be perceived as distinct from the larger society as a whole. Sports teams provide a particularly good example of a community. They separate themselves by the games they play, even by the name they call themselves. The entire world of sports itself can seem confusing to someone who doesn’t understand the rules. Behind each game is a complex realm of jargon, hierarchy, and guidelines. In order to play, you need to learn. And hopeful members work to earn their spot on the team. Through personal participation, as well as observation, one can witness for themselves just how the community created by a team functions. The team experience resonates with a lot of people, and has attracted film makers with stories of motivation, hope, and overcoming the odds. Many of the most well-known sports movies are often even inspired by true stories. In all of these films, similar themes can be found, demonstrating just how much the feeling of community within teams is shared throughout all areas of sports. Teams have a goal, face a challenger, and overcome obstacles, all in the hope of...

The Impact of a Professional Sports Team on a City

...The Impact of a Professional Sports Team on a City Craig Keller Microeconomics 12-2 T -T All major cities in the U.S. have one thing in common with each other; they all have professional sports teams. From New York to Los Angeles, from Seattle to Miami all have professional teams. They all have the devoted fans no matter if they win the championship or they finish last. But having a major sports team in a city is more than just having someone to cheer for. A sports team can and often does a benefit on the city they are in. They benefit the city’s economy in various ways. Oklahoma City is a city that is considered a small market. The city has had sports teams before, an AAA baseball team, and a minor league hockey team, but never a major league team. Oklahoma City is currently the largest city in Oklahoma. In land area, it is the 3rd largest in the nation behind Anchorage and Jacksonville. (Knapp, 2009) Oklahoma City estimated population is 537,734 as of 2006. ( U.S. Census Bureau, 2010) In 2008 the city finally got a professional sports team. The NBA team the Seattle Supersonics moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City and became known as the Oklahoma City Thunder. The move was possible because the city of Oklahoma had been trying for some time to get a professional team. To do this the city came up with what is called the Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS), which financed new and upgraded sports, entertainment, cultural and convention facilities primarily in the downtown...

How to Best Improve My Professional Sports Team

...improve my professional sports team The offseason should be the most productive time of the year for any team, in any sport. It has proven to make or break teams, time and time again. As a coach of a very successful MLS soccer team, my focus will be centered on improving the following three points; team dynamics, group cohesion, and individual leadership. By optimizing all three of these characteristics I hope to build a much stronger team and win the league championship. My first point is focused on enhancing team dynamics. The first step in this is making my group of individuals feel as if they are a team of one, and not just a group of athletes who happen to be on the same team. As the text states, “Although all teams are groups, not all groups can be considered teams (Weinberg & Gould 2011).” In order to turn my group of athletes into a team I must first focus on creating a productive environment. This includes building social support amongst teammates. In order to accomplish this I might hold team meetings before and after every practice in which I encourage teammates to talk about on or off field pressures or experiences. In doing this I am strengthening the teams listening support as well as their emotional support. I might also try to improve my team’s distinctiveness in order to improve their unity. I might introduce a new nickname for this group of guys, or maybe design an emblem or logo, anything to set my team apart from any other team, past or present. Throughout...

Essay On Sports Teams

...Keep it Separate Girls and boys sports teams should be separate. Girls should not be able to compete with men in sports. However, in this century many people are advocating for equality. Gender discrimination has always been an issue. By keeping girls and boys sports teams separate, the game will be fairer. By allowing girls to be on boys sports teams, that would call for boys on girls sport teams. There was a wrestler in Iowa who forfeited to a girl wrestler because of his faith. He was praised and criticized for his decision. Due to the differences in physical make-up, mixed skill levels, and team dynamics, it’s not a good idea to bring teams together that have both genders. What mainly separates girls and boys is not how we think, but how...

Root, Root, Pay for the Home Team? Taxpayers Funding Professional Sports Stadiums

...Root, Root, Pay for the Home Team? Taxpayers Funding Professional Sports Stadiums Kayla Thompson MBA 578 SB FT Managerial Economics April 13, 2013 ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to address the issue of the public (taxpayers) funding the construction and/or renovation of privately owned sports stadiums. The use of public funds has skyrocketed since the early 1980s. Why has there been an increase in the trend and what is really going on behind the scenes? Through my research, I have found six articles that deal with many questions surrounding this hot topic issue. First, I will examine how the sports teams and the local governments deal with the public when proposing the funding of the sports teams’ stadiums. After the public agrees to back the construction of a stadium, the next step is to find out where those funds are coming from. I will take a look at how the increase in taxes are being implemented and just exactly how much debt these taxes are trying to pay off. Once all of this information is determined, it is easy to get to the real question of this research paper: Is funding the construction of a new sports stadium worth it for the taxpayers of that city? Does the revenue outweigh the debts, or will it never pay off? The answer to this might just change the readers’ minds next time they are sitting at their home stadium watching their favorite team play. INTRODUCTION Taxpayers funding sports stadiums has become more and more prominent since...

Just Let Them Play

...children whom either play or want to play sports, I often find myself asking the question if being involved in sports beneficial to children. Some believe that the risk is not worth the reward. Sports are very physical and can potentially cause harm to children and their bodies. Many parents and coaches put a lot of emphasis on winning, which can lower a child’s self-esteem if they do not win. It would be safe to say that there are several negative aspects to children playing sports, but past experience and research shows that the positives of children playing sports far outweigh those negative aspects. Sports can have a positive impact on a child’s life and can help them grow as an athlete and a person, and a child that plays sports can benefit mentally, physically, academically, and socially. Playing team sports can provide mental and emotional benefits for a child in many ways. Playing sports as a child can build mental and emotional capacity through improving self-esteem, introducing teamwork, and teaching a child to be unselfish. Growing up as a person who played sports as both a child and adult, I have experienced these mental and emotional benefits and understand the value in playing sports. My mother once told me that it does not matter what you do in life as long as you are good at it, and it brings joy into your life. This quote has always stuck with me throughout my life, and I first used it when playing sports. The first team sport I started playing was baseball when...

Why Sports Teams Relocate

...Why Sports Teams Move and Cities Fight To Keep Them Professional sports, like most of our popular culture, can be understood only partly by through its exiting plays and tremendous athletes. Baseball and football most of all are not only games anymore but also hardcore businesses. As businesses, sports leagues can be as conniving, deceitful, and manipulative as any other businesses in the world. No matter what the circumstances are, it seems that Politicians are always some how right around the corner from the world of sports. These Politicians look to exploit both the cultural and the economic dimensions of the sports for their own purposes. This is what is known in the sports industry as "playing the field". In the last decade, almost all the big cities in the United States, and a few small cities as well, have battled with each other for the right to host big league franchises. Cities spend hundreds of millions of dollars to build new stadiums and offer enticements to private franchise owners. Politicians often push for stadiums and other favors to teams despite not having support from neighborhoods and general opposition across the whole city, especially where these high dollar stadiums would be built. Some of the most prolific franchises in sports, like the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Colts of the National Football League, have moved to other cities breaking off their loyalty to the hometown fans. More important than the actual moves are the more frequent threatened...

Girls on Boys Sports Teams

...they’ve got a girl on their team…” “Ah, man, again? I hate playing against girls. I always feel like I’m going to hurt them.” “Just don’t think about it, dude. Go up against her like she’s just another player.” “Okay boys, watch out for the girl on their team. If she’s playing with the guys team, she’s gotta be good.” Countless times, my teammates and I would watch a girl walk on to the field for the other team and start warming up. Instantly, stereotypes were made, and probably to many peoples’ surprise, they were in her favor. Any girl playing on a guy’s team has to be highly skilled, so we tried our hardest not to take her lightly. We did our best to keep this mentality in our minds during the game, but the instant there was a close ball and there was going to be some hard contact, the guys on our team, almost every time, would back off the ball in fear of hurting her. While going up against a girl, this restraint is almost always going on in guys’ minds. Guys shouldn’t have to limit how hard they play at any time, but almost all boys, whether they mean to or not, do not go as hard against a girl as they might a boy. Ever since girls have been playing sports, and even more so since the passing of Title IX, the debate of girls playing on a boys sports team has been a hot one. In my eyes, there isn’t even a real argument to be made. It is frowned upon for boys to play on girls teams, so why let the girls play on boys teams? By the end of high school...

Team Sports Teach Good Values

...Team athletics are a huge part of society and of school, where most people start truly developing who they’re going to be for the rest of their lives. During this time, it is important to build strong connections and strong personal values. Team athletics do exactly that; they teach kids values that will last a lifetime and that can make them better people. Whether it be from: football, soccer, baseball, softball, field hockey, it doesn’t matter. Team sports teach things people might not learn anywhere else. Playing on team sports provides many opportunities, but one of the most important opportunities it presents kids with is to learn values that will stay with them forever. Between the interactions with fellow players and the coaches they can learn a lot. Playing games against other teams teaches good sportsmanship and to never give up. When the team is down by a few scores and it looks like they can’t come back, they learn that they’re never down and out; they learn to fight and give it they’re all. Whether the game is won or lost isn’t what matters. What matters is that the team as a whole tried and didn’t just lay down and quit. Then depending on the outcome of the game determines how a team should act. If they win, they shouldn’t yell and scream at the other team and gloat in their faces that they beat them. They should shake their hands, tell them it was a good game, and act with class. If they lost then they should accept defeat, acknowledge that the other team bested...
