Essay 9 Technical writing is not just for college assignments. In my many job searches there have been common requirements or sought after job skills that employers look for in a potential employee candidate. These skills are easily dismissed by most with a thought process that they could easily replicate or fake their way through. The jobs skills I am talking about are normally summarized as good written communication, and organization. Technical writing teaches these disciplines and help you improve your ability to shine in a potential career. To fully explain these concepts I will explain first on how technical writing affects your organizational skills. In the process of writing a project paper or an essay, you begin to notice a sense that you need to not only prove a point but you must properly order your thoughts to make what you are writing about to be clear to the reader. Something as simple writing a thesis requires a process of organization. In this first paragraph you need to grab the reader’s attention, introduce an idea, and follow up the idea with how you plan to prove your point in a short amount of sentences. This requires thinking through the thesis and organizing how you want the paper to follow through with what you are claiming. You begin to organize your thoughts and sorting through the research you have done. You prioritize the claims and start to form this simple idea into an organized paper in which anyone should be able to read without feeling lost. Good written communication plays hand in hand with organization. You aren’t just jotting down ideas. You are shaping this paper into something that is easily read. This is where your ability to fully communicate an idea and make it flow on a paper becomes important. Is your take on the research you have done easily understood? Does what your writing makes sense? Is your thesis statement

Visual Aids Visual aids can help you understand and reach objectives by providing visual emphasis on what is being said. They emphasize focal points and convey information using graphics to facilitate understanding. Psychologist Jerome Bruner of New York University notes in Power of Visual Communication (2004), “people remember ten percent of what they hear and twenty percent of what they read, but about eighty percent of what they see and do.” Visual aids are useful because they help you to be able to grasp your audience’s attention. Designing Visual Aids According to the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company (2004), there are six guidelines to adhere by to ensure you design effective visual aids.                    1.     Plan and Prepare Visuals Aids in Advance Visual Aids take time to develop and being prepared makes the process much more simple.
