Technology and Communication Paper Technology has helped enhance communication between others and has especially helped with communication in the criminal justice system. Technology has affected the communication capabilities of specialized databases in the criminal justice system in many different ways. Many forms of technology are used to help with communication such as mobile data terminals and iris scans in the criminal justice system. In this paper, this student will compare different types of specialized databases and will also discuss over positive and negative effects due to new technologies. Mobile data terminals are used in the criminal justice system as a form of specialized database to help with communication. “A mobile data terminal (MDT) is a computerized device used in public transit vehicles and emergency vehicles to communicate with a central dispatch office” (Versaterm, 2011). There are many large police agencies that require all law enforcement officers to have a wireless mobile terminal system installed in their vehicles. This database can help law enforcement officers with workload management in the communication center and they can also help better time management of officers and help greater efficiency. Mobile data terminals can also help with communication between officers and dispatch by letting the officers have access to dispatch receipts, status updates, access to other unit statuses and they can also view any traffic stop updates. Overall, mobile data terminals have helped increase communication between officers and dispatch in the criminal justice system (Versaterm, 2011). Another type of specialized database that is used in the criminal justice system is known as iris scans. “Iris scans is a method of biometric identification; pattern recognition is used to determine the identity of the subject” (Technovelgy LLC, 2010). Iris scans can be quicker then getting fingerprints from an individual. It has been proven that iris scans and iris recognitions are the most accurate form of biometric devices that we have today. There is a camera that is used to take a picture of an individual’s iris in their eye and it will show the different patterns in the eye. Every individual’s eye is unique and different which makes this device accurate because it makes it easy to read since everyone’s eye patterns are different. Having this type of technology in the criminal justice system helps with communication because different police agencies can keep in contact between one another with this database and can determine if an individual has been scanned before and if they might possibly have a criminal background. However, the main uses of iris scans are for passports, security purposes, database access, computer logging, watch lists, and border crossings. Iris scans and iris recognitions have only been used within the past decade and the government wants to continue to see this type of technology grow within criminal justice system (Technovelgy LLC, 2010). Technology is a major part of our daily lives and it helps with communication in our society. There are many positive effects due to new technologies. Computers, cell phones and different types of specialized databases are just a few types of technological advances that have helped improve communication in the criminal justice system. These types of technologies have helped with the safety of police officers while they are patrolling. Cellular devices have been a revolutionary step in helping with communication between others. Without cell phones, it would be almost impossible for people to communicate between one another. Computers and Internet have also been a huge impact on communication as well. Computers can organize and store data and they can also process an extremely large amount of information, which is very helpful in the criminal justice system due to the large amount of information that they receive on a daily basis. Overall, technology has made a huge impact on our lives and as technology continues to grow new advancements will help improve things that we use on a daily basis. Even though there are many positive aspects of technology, there are also a few negatives. Society has become so dependant on technology, which can cause people to become impatient and can in return cause people to act before they think sometimes. As technology continues to grow, our society has to be trained and retrained so that they are up to date on new types of technology. This can cause a problem when some people do not have the time to be trained on new technology because it is always changing. Also, another negative effect on new technology is that some individuals might not have the money to keep upgrading devices such as cell phones, computers and vehicles. “In many ways modern technology had the opposite effect of making us worker harder and faster just to stay in the same place” (ArticleBase, 2011). If I had the option to choose a type of new specialized technology, I would want to test a mobile data terminal. I personally feel that this device is very helpful and it can help with organization and it also can store large amounts of data. Also, in the event of an emergency, this device would be able to send for help by just a touch of a button. The mobile data terminal is also good for getting directions because it has a built in Global Positioning System (GPS), which can be very convenient if someone is trying to get somewhere in a hurry (Versaterm, 2011). Technology is very important to our society and it continues to change day in and day out. As technology continues to grow, we need to be more familiar with the different types of technology because it can be help with our daily activities. In the criminal justice system there are different types of specialized databases such as mobile data terminals, AFIS, live scans, facial recognitions and iris scans that help communication capabilities. There are many positive and negative effects of having new technology but overall as technology continues to expand, it will make our lives much easier.

Now, from my perspective, I will choose email because it is another form of communication. Furthermore, once I have sent my email, I will follow it up with a phone call, just to make sure that he or she has received my email. Yes, email is a technology that several people use to conduct his or her business message and personal message. However, I will be discussing five subtopics. Now, these five subtopics will be brief, clear, and direct. A message to the technical support about an employee's computer that has been infected by a virus. Now, fortunately, the basic idea will be to pick up the phone and call the tech support. When he or she has answered your call, I will provide detail information about my computer at my workstation. Sometimes, the technical support team can fix the problem in a timely manner, but then again, it could take much longer. However, I must email my boss because he or she is not aware of the issue on my computer at my workstation. Now, before I send that email to the boss, I must chart the date and time when I called to talk to tech support about my computer problem. ...Communication Technology Steve Lopez BUS 600: Management Communications with Technology Tools Prof. James Worsley August 6, 2012 Communication Technology Communication and technology have evolved over the years and at a rapid pace. With these tools together, they have shaped industries and grew businesses exponentially. Many years ago, man had to use smoke from fire to communicate over long distances. With the new inventions and new technologies for communication, the business world shrunk the globe. Baack (2012) defines communication as, “transmitting, receiving, and processing information.” The organization that does these three things the quickest gives them an advantage on their competition. An organization needs to enhance its performance by first understanding the correct communication technology for them. The organization needs to be able to deliver communications that are timely, accurate, effective, and efficient. “These various modes of communication may be used to disseminate official information between employees and management, to exchange hearsay and rumors, or anything in between” (Reference for Business). Organizations need to understand what communication tools will best fit their organization. Defining the objectives of the organizations communication needs along with the costs is beneficial to the right communication tools needed for that specific organization. Table 1.1 shows the...

...Technology and Communications Technology and Communications While not everything runs on electricity, most of the technology used in the business world will become completely wireless; humans are only getting smarter and the technological sciences are only advancing and getting stronger. Though we may not want to face it, this century runs on wireless communication. Cell phones, tablets, Wi-Fi networks, hotspots, and many other wireless devices are a crucial part of any business and the way in which it communicates. “Wireless technology provides the ability to communicate between two or more entities over distances without the use of wires or cables of any sort.” (Krishnamurthy, 2002) Ask anyone on the street to pull out a cell phone and sure enough 9 times out of 10 they will pull it right out. Wireless technology today is constantly moving and expanding, we have become a wireless generation. There was a time when answering machines and landlines were the only way to communicate with one another, but now cables are a thing of the past. There was also a time when international calls were made over prepaid cards, now international calls can not only be made with a cell phone, but you can chat face to face with someone on the other side of the world. Wireless communication is the technology that makes these innovations possible. For businesses in the world today this means being able to communicate and expand their...

...Technology and Communication Arneshia Hopkins March 2, 2015 COM/295 University of Phoenix The different types of technology being used for business communication are networking, the Internet, and of course wireless communications. I work for a company call center by the name of Sutherland Global Services. If you could place Internet in the company name it would be there. Networking allows companies to be able to share information and videos using a secure system. The Internet is used for video chatting, and sending emails and IM's amongst employees, and employees and their supervisors or managers, and wireless communication is used for voice communication and texting. It can also be used for checking emails on the go. The company I work for communicates through the Microsoft Outlook email. Any announcements and tips come through emails. That is the chain of command to hirer heads of the company. In my business we use the Internet to send emails to the providers and physicians we are trying to schedule an appointment with for the veterans .We use wireless communications to communicate with employees that are in different cities and offices, when we need to call the office for any reason, and to call the doctor offices to get more information. The company I work for pretty much uses the same communications such as Internet and wireless communications. Sometimes I think the company should rely so much on the Internet and our outlook system to communicate certain reports...

...Technology and Communications Stephanie Mannino Com/295 February 8, 2016 Kenneth Edick Technology and Communications Effective ways to communicate using technology A message to the technical support about an employee’s computer that has been infected by a virus: The most effective way to communicate with technical support would be first to simply call. I would call simply because an employee needing to be able to use their computer would be a very time sensitive matter. Whether or not you speak with someone in the department, I would also send an email with the name of the employee and the department that they work in. I would follow up later that day to ensure that the problem was handled effectively. A message from HR to all employees, explaining the changes to the company health plan in the coming year: I would send this information out via email. The email would include a brief description and who to contact if they have questions or concerns. I would attach a pdf file for each employee to review at their discretion. To cover all bases, I would also send to all department heads where employees do not have access to email, and the information could be printed for those employee’s. A message from the CEO of a large company to employees explaining negative news regarding the company appearing on national news channels: I would send out a report and thoroughly detail the specifics of the negative news. ...Technology and Communication Robyn Hargrave COM/295 July 20, 2015 Barbara Psachos Technology and Communication In today's world, we rely on different forms of communication in business. These forms range from oral communication (example: person to person), written communication (examples: memos and letters), and electronic (examples: emails and text messages). We must decide on the most effective form of communication when faced with different scenarios. What form of communication would I use to send technical support a message regarding an employee's computer that has been infected with a virus? It is important to know the company's policy for reporting problems to tech support. Some technology departments want a work order sent in. This way they can keep track of all the problems a company is having and determine if this problem is companywide or only for certain individuals. I would send an email to tech support regarding this employee's computer. I would also follow up with a phone call to tech support to make sure they received my email if I have not heard back from them within an hour. With an email, the support personnel can see what is going on while on the phone with another person and might be able to handle the situation while on hold. With just a phone call, the support personnel might be on the phone and cannot answer. What form of communication would I use for letting all employees know about upcoming health care...

...Technology Communications in Businesses Hello everyone my name is... and I wanted to share with you some of my knowledge of technology particularly information processing and content handling functions and the tools that make it all possible today. Technology Communications in corporations and businesses has evolved over the years and taken a more unified role because of the integration of telecommunications as in telephone lines and wireless signals, computers, audio-visual systems, enterprise software and storage which enable users to access, store, transmit and manipulate information. There are several technology equipments today that make this convergence of telephone networks and computer networks possible. They are making accumulated knowledge accessible sharable and searchable so the right people can see the right information at the right time and add their expertise which means more collaboration, innovations and success. The Cisco IP phones for example, capable of providing high quality, consistent communications for business needs. They transmit voice communications over the network using open standards based internet protocol and extend communications services to all employees in the workplace within the network. Routers on the other hand connect businesses to the outside world while providing highly secure virtual private network access for remote employees mainly by forwarding of IP packets which are a formatted unit of data. As for Wireless access points...

...Technology and Communications Amanda Rogacki COM 295 July 6, 2015 George DeMetropolis Technology and Communications There are many different media platforms that can be used in a business environment. Each scenario below required a different form of technology or media to communicate the given message. In the first scenario, an employee’s computer is infected with a virus and you need to contact technical support to fix the problem. I believe that a phone call to the technical support team informing them of the issue is the best choice. When a virus is detected it is best that it be dealt with quickly before it can spread to others on the network. After they have been notified depending on the company they can send someone to fix it, take the computer, or remotely access it to remove the virus. One of my team mates had some good points about bad news being best delivered in person. While I agree with that I do not think it applies here. This is not someone losing a job or not getting the raises they were promised. In this situation it is simply a problem that needs to be solved quickly. Some companies do not have a technical support team in the office and must call them in. If that was the case a face to face would not be possible. Even though I agree with his point about bad news I do not feel it meets the criteria here. In the second scenario, the Human resources department needs to inform all the employees of the changes in the health plan. We also...

The popular written communications in the workplace are electronic mail and print media. In today’s world, email is widely used as the main source of communication. It is an instant communication for quick updates or to send out important company information. Emails are easy and convenient. They can be sent out in a timely manner to ensure employees receive information quickly. Consider: EMR or Electronic Medical Records is a web based program that was made to connect area and regional hospital and doctor offices to communicate in one web based operation. EMR was made also with the intent and purposes of deleting the bulk of paper charts and being proficient and useful in using a technology upgrade in a wireless and computer based outline system, which connects everyone that works within this system works together as one unit. Example: Let’s say I have a patient that moved from Atlanta that has a doctor that uses the same operating system that we do in Rochester, NY I am able to get the providers name and look them up on the system, then I am able to contact the provider through said system asking them for said patient information, after said patient fills the required paper work and it is faxed to said provider. I will be able to obtain this patients information legally within the system of EMR. Consider Part A (consumers): With this new system the consumer has the right to view their charts online when ever he/she wants. There is also a place online where instead of...

He services all of our buildings and currently is on a large project to get our Business Development Center up and running with new computers and phones. I have find that sending a text message and sometimes a picture of what my screen looks like generates a faster response and a faster solution since in most cases he can just tell me what to do to correct it. 2. A message from HR to all employees, explaining the changes to the company health plan in the coming year. A letter that stapled to the envelope check stubs are received in. This letter explains and describes any changes that may be coming up with our company’s health plan. There are also meetings that are scheduled on separate days in each building with the representative who handles the health care coverages. This way if employees have any questions they can ask them at that time. 3.
