...the world today is much better than it was fifty years ago, in many ways due to, technology, civil rights and medical breakthroughs. Technology today is far more advanced than it was back in 1961. Computers were not household products back then. If you look in a house today you will see at least one computer in most homes. Not only were computers not household items but flat screen televisions, cable, internet, DVD/Blu-ray player, cell phones, digital cameras/camcorders were not in the homes either. With all these things it’s clear that we have more now than people did fifty years ago and these are only a few examples of what we have now that was not around fifty years ago. Today with the technology we have, we can do more and achieve more than anyone ever did fifty years ago. Advancements in technology that have been made today have made life easier for people than it did for the people in 1961. The cost alone for a computer has dropped thousands of dollars, making it possible for us to have one or more computers in our house instead of not having one at all. In 1961 people didn’t make enough money to have a household computer. The cost of computers were anywhere from five to ten thousand dollars back then. Very few people would have ever been able to afford that. Now computers cost as little as three hundred dollars and they are much better than the computer that were made back then. Computers are not only for our homes though. We now have the technology to use...

Certainly, it is difficult to estimate the value of information technology in our society. Furthermore, many fields today highly depend on information technology, and it has opened doors to countless career opportunity for our generation. Information technology is bringing the world closer; there are no linguistic and geographical boundaries when it comes to sharing information. World as we know today has transformed in to global village. Information technology allows us to share information more rapidly and efficiently, in fact today we are able to share ideas with countries that are separated by not only distance but also language. Furthermore, information technology has also made communication cheaper and effective. ...Technology Technology has been advancing over the years. Statistics show that more and more people are relying on technology as the years pass by. In our world today over three billion people and counting are using the internet today. Three things where technology has had an improvement is in the medical field, military, and homes. First of all, I have seen and experienced the new use of technology in the Medical Field. In today’s world doctors and sergeants can save more people’s lives. They have created robots that can do surgery, and have 100% perfection in the surgery. There are new cameras that doctors use today that can go inside your body and search for many things including tumors, cancer, and injuries. An x-ray is technology that doctors use today, in order for them to see just your bones and be able to detect what injuries you may have. This is helpful for many people especially the athletes, since they have a higher probability of getting fractures on their bones. In my own opinion I think technology did a good improvement in this area. Secondly, in the military it’s difficult to decide whether the improvements are good or bad. The military has advanced in many aspects which is terrible for the whole world but good for the armies all around the world. The ending of World War II is an example of a bad improvement. The United States of America had to use the Atomic Bombs on two cities of Japan to end the war. Now there is a new bomb called the nuclear bomb. This...

...blame technology for destroying nature and causing pollution, and say that it is the worst evil in the world , I still believe that it has greatly changed our lives for the better as we hardly imagine what would happen if we went for a day without technology.  Technology is very popular in our daily life thanks to its advantages. As we know, firstly, technology in household helps people do the housework. For example, housewives do not need to wash manually, but they can use washing machine. Another reason why I advocate the viewpoint that technology has made the world a better place to live is that it makes the world smaller. Nowadays people can travel faster and easier to other places by car, bus and air-plane, and see many new interesting things around the world. In addition, they communicate with people in different countries through the Internet and phones, which saves them lots of time and money.  But the most worthwhile benefit technology has brought to us is that it makes us healthier and happier. Clear progress in medicine, use new technologies to diagnose and combat diseases make therapy more effective. It allows us to cure serious diseases such as cancer and cardiopathy. Statistics show that life expectancy is getting longer. In Europe, for example, today life expectancy has climbed past 80 and people are glad to be alive; the longer they live in good health, the happier they feel they are. So, as we go forward into this ‘magical future’, will technology make...

...Technology and Social Change Tina Medina SOC/100 May 2, 2016 Andrea Harris Technology and Social Change This essay is about technology and social change, which are two things that have a huge impact in our world today. Ramey (2013), "Technology is a body of knowledge devoted to creating tools, processing actions and extracting of materials. We use technology to accomplish various tasks in our daily lives, in brief; we can describe technology as products, processes or organizations.” (para. 1). According to "Social Change Defined" (n.d.), "Social change refers to any significant alteration over time in behavior patterns and cultural values and norms.” (para. 1). Now that we have the definitions of technology and social change it is easy to see how they are related. No matter where or what you are going in your life it has been impacted my technology some way and have socially changed how we accomplish things in our everyday life. Some examples; checking out at the store can now be done through a self-checkout lane, you no longer need a map to travel with GPS available in your car, and people can work from home because of computers and advanced technology. All of these technology changes have made people learn new ways to complete tasks throughout their day and social change has occurred. ...totalitarian government. This book not only warned the world of potential dangers of being ruled this type of government, but it also presented some controversial new societal trends and technological advancement ideas for the future. Little did society know that Orwell's technology predictions in this book would actually come true in the near future. Orwell was especially concerned with the technological role in these governments, allowing them to control and keep an eye on their citizens. People in the time period that this book was written had a hard time grasping what Orwell was predicting. Many of his ideas and concepts were said not to happen for thousands of years, some were even claimed impossible to be done. In actuality, as we know today, a good amount of Orwell's predictions in the book 1984 have already became a reality. Orwell presented these ideas to warn people of what might be ahead and to be careful, but it may have created an opposite effect. His ideas may have actually had society work towards making his predictions come true. Orwell's book 1984 revealed how powerful technology could be, as the Party, or "Big Brother", used its complex technology to monitor and implement fear into those it identifies as its enemies. One of the devices the Party used for this purpose was the "telescreen". This is one of Orwell's predictions that were almost exactly right, because we have very similar devices in our world today. These telescreens can almost directly correlate with...

This paper serves as an added voice to the debate of Artificial Intelligence versus the Human Mind. The fundamental question being addressed is that of whether the rapid technological advancements that have and are still being made are stifling the growth of human innovation. The realization that technology is increasingly becoming a huge facet in the day to day lives of billions of people around the globe makes it ever more necessary to evaluate how dependent the world will be on it in the near future. For example, technology is used to determine weather patterns, determining the direction the global economy is taking and so forth. So it is pertinent for an evaluation...

To make students successful in education today, we must use all tools that are given to us. We must realize that our students today are being brought up in an age of technology that has never been seen before. Today most homes have computers in them and most children are more literate to technology. The need for students today is to learn and make use of the skills that they have in technology and use them in the classroom. The digital world is so much part of the world today, how can educators ignore it. In the requirements for students from 6-8 it is making sure they are prepared for high school and the college levels of technology. By the end of a sixth grade students must be able to use appropriate vocabulary to demonstrating and using moral knowledge while on the internet for information in the classroom. It is very important that every requirement is implemented and used, if not we are only cheating the student of his/her education. The “No Child Left Behind Act” has made states responsible to make sure every child is technologically literate by the time they reach the ninth grade. The United States Dept. of Education says race, ethnicity, gender, income, geographic location, or disability is not an issue and every child will get the same instruction as the child next to them. Observing Prudence in Harnessing Technology

...Prudence in Harnessing Technology It may well be said that humanity is the most advanced society in the known world. Over the pan of millions of years, humanity’s primitive ancestors have constantly achieved one technology feat after another, eventually culminating in what is now regarded as the highly progressive contemporary society. However, whereas comparing the modern world with the past shows monumental improvements in quality of life, it must be noted that the current state of technology that is enjoyed today has not been fully beneficial to humanity and the rest of the world. Humanity may have made the greatest leap in manipulating science for advantage but also made the most extensive damage to the planet. Like example….. Knowing that ecological problems arise from man’s own use of technological innovations often breeds the believe that it is the technology that is inherently flawed. However, contrary to this belief, it is not the technology that is to blame; rather, it is the way by which people make use of this technology that is flawed. It is for this reason that I am speaking in front of you today to express that in order to rehabilitate the world and, if possible, to reclaim the loss and reverse the damages, we must exercise prudence in harnessing technology. Prudence in its simplest definition is the exercise of foresight and critical thought as it relates to actions and their consequences. A Prudent society must ask whether a technology is beneficial and necessary...

Technology and Life

...Technology is all around us. We have become dependent on it. Could you imagine a day without your cell phone or computer? These devises have become, “attached to our hips” so to speak. I have heard plenty of people say, “I could not live without my cell phone” or “I would be lost without my computer.” Right now this is not something that people do not take very seriously, it is just an expression they us to express how important these devices have become to them. We all have become dependent on technology; most everything today requires technology to function making it hard to live a normal life without it today. Technology has become both a blessing and a curse, the problem is finding out if it is more of a blessing then a curse. Have you ever asked the question “can I live without technology?” To answer that question fully we would have to see how technology affects the mind and body. You would think that technology would have no effect on a person, when really it affects us more than you might realize. It depends on how you use the technology. Technology can help shape what defines you mentally and physically, if you let it. Put simply if you get use to technology making life easier then you are prone to become less active. Simple example, before computers if you wanted to know what was going on in the news, and the news was not on TV at that time then you would have to go to a newspaper stand and get a newspaper. This simple act required you to get up walk to your car drive...
