Over the course of Book I and Book II of The Odyssey, Telemachus matures greatly after meeting with Athene. When Telemachus greets Athene in Book I with a feast and the suitors join in, Athene immediately takes notice that Telemachus does not make them leave and this repulses her. She exclaims, “ ‘What company is this?... How rude they seem, and wanton, feasting about the hall! A decent man must be indignant who comes and sees such outrage’ ” (6). She sees how immature Telemachus is and how he is not acting as the man of the house the way he should, since Odysseus has been absent for several years.
