Tesco speech in Bakersfield

Dear residents of Bakersfield.
My name is Allan Marsh. I’m a big adversary of Tesco’s almost monopoly like expansion on the British market. Furthermore, I was the mastermind of a successful, and very similar, campaign like this. I led the campaign called “Herne against Tesco”.
As with your case Tesco also wanted to close our local pub, and build an express store.
For starters we tried to be reasonable and appeal to their logical side, by pointing out that it would be meaningless for Tesco to have a store there, due to parking limitations around the building. However, our callout was ignored completely. They continued their construction plans. Therefore, we had to take drastic measures. So I gathered almost the entire village, with the before mentioned campaign, and tried to make them march through the town with me. The majority where very willing to join us. At the end more than 700 residents of Herne and nearby communities showed up to march with us, to show their dissatisfaction with the new store, and almost hostile takeover of our pub. This made quite the impression on Tesco, and it was now clear that a Tesco store in Herne, would not be profitable, and would most likely go bust, so they cancelled their plans. Thereby, we had beaten one of the biggest retailing businesses in the world, merely with our persistence, determination and diligence as our weapon. And this is possible for you as well.
Sure Tesco is colossal, and may seem almost stolid, but we have to fight them none the less. Tesco’s expansion strategy initially makes no room for the residents of the affected community to express themselves, and say what’s on their mind. Furthermore, rapid expansion is a big part the Tesco business strategy, with very little regard for the community in general, a strategy they seem quite reluctant to abandon. But with enough
